All SOLID WOOD Quality and TONE! When it comes to acoustic guitar tone and quality, nothing performs like an ALL SOLID wood instrument. Harking back to the 1930's and their heritage, the Epiphone Masterbilt line combines traditional construction methods and features with premium all solid tone woods to bring you a new "vintage" instrument with deep rich lows, shimmering highs and just the right amount of mids. While many other guitars in this price class use pressed backs, spliced neck joints and even artificial wood backs and sides, you can be assured that every Masterbilt holds true to it's all solid wood promise.

Traditional Construction Methods and Designs! As with all Masterbilts, the new DR-500MCE model features a solid Sitka spruce top, hand-scalloped Sitka spruce braces, mahogany kerfing, and 25.5" scale fingerboard. Players looking for vintage tone and vibe will appreciate the hand-crafted dovetail neck joint and hide-glue construction. The DR-500MCE also has a solid Mahogany back and sides as well as a 20-fret hand-shaped Mahogany neck that joins the body at the 14th fret that is adorned with carefully cut, "split-diamond" pearl fretboard inlays. As with all Masterbilts, the DR-500MCE features Epiphone historic "off-set" headstock with "stickpin" headstock inlay.

Superior Technology You've Been Waiting For!
While the DR-500MCE sounds great "unplugged," it really comes alive when plugged in thanks to the advanced pickup & preamp system. Loaded with premium add-ons! Other features included quality vintage-style Grover Sta-Tite 18:1 ratio machine heads, bone nut and saddle, imitation tortoise pickguard, nickel hardware and a bound body, neck and headstock.

It was purely by luck that I stumble upon this guitar. One of my guitars was in need of repairs and needed a rental... so they had this one available.
I never returned it. To say the least. No kidding. This plays and sounds better than a Gibson J-45, in my humble opinion.
She is my go to guitar.
You will not regret it. Ever.
Plugged in, that guitar is just unreal.
...The only thing I'll say is the tuning machines are not the best quality so I had them replaced by better quality.

I bought this used (in excellent condition) at L&M for $600 back in 2017. It came with a case, capo, humidifier, etc. Pretty incredible eh? Shout out to the guys at London North. The thing sounds and feels amazing, and is a real beauty (natural finish has a gorgeous orange tinge). If you can find one and get over the name on the headstock, you will be amazed by the quality of this guitar. I play it as much as my J-45.

Wonderful rich sound and easy to pick. I LOVE it! I have never played an electric and this is an A1 combination of both.

To be honest I didn't like this guitar at first. I loved how it looked and it played well but it just didn't sound as good to my ear as my rosewood acoustics. I had a Larivee LV-03 that I sold and missed badly. On a sale I picked up this dr500mce. I got it home and was blown away by how much better it sounded in my own space. I would compare the balance and tone favorably to my old Larivee but at a significantly lower price. I love the classic construction and bone nut and saddle. I'm just kicking myself for not buying it sooner.

This guitar is absolutely phenomenal. For 1000 Canadian dollars, I'm not sure if there's much out there that can compete with the Masterbilt series. I went with the DR500, I was considering a Seagull, another awesome choice for a similar price point but I chose this because I enjoy the cutaway and electronics are the same as my old EJ200. This guitar has a ton of bass and depth in tone, it's a really full sounding guitar. The one piece neck with the dovetail neck joint is a very surprising spec to see, the neck is a little bit chunky but personally that doesnt bother me, and I think it contributes to the tone as well, with a rosewood fretboard on top of it, it's a big win to me. The electronics in this guitar are amazing. I've always enjoyed the Shadow Nanoflex and Nanomag setup, you get alot of variety in tone and you can even run each pickup through different outputs by plugging into both input jacks. Oh yeah, and it's an all solid Sitka spruce top and mahogany back and sides. It's a gem

Have owned my Epiphone DR500MCE since December 2016. I was looking for a guitar with character and soul. Chose the DR500 over Taylor 314. Was about to buy Taylor 314 at $2,300 and came across DR500. Tried it for fun, was stunned at sound and feel. Played both guitars 5 days in a row for about 90 minutes each time.....could not leave the DR500 to someone else. Had to make it mine. After almost 4 years of ownership, I made the right choice. I have several high end guitars and this is still my GO TO when jamming with the guys. Insane value. Take the time to shop around and find one that rings true and has great feel....I tried a few stores and not all DR500 were 100% the same.....some manufacturing nuances are evident ......mine was a keeper. Found it at Laval Québec store.

I have owned a load of acoustic electric guitars ranging from lower end models to middle of the road Samick's and Yamaha's (not knocking them) to fairly good Takamine's (also another good guitar) but I have never had a better sounding or better looking guitar. I now own two different Epiphone acoustic electrics and I am completely happy with both models. The DR500 has a richness and clarity seldom found in a guitar under the $2000 mark. I am sold on Epiphone and definitely on the DR500. I highly recommend this amazing guitar.

I've owned it for two years and appreciate the 18:1 Grovers, even after a week of sitting it's still in tune and stays there. The richness lows & highs are very comparable to a Gibson at twice the cost. I had it set up to a better than playable state a few months after it was purchased, even the tech guy was impressed (after the sales guy told me I was crazy). My only negative is that the neck could be a bit wider and would likely find a "C" shape neck more compatible to my finger style playing (especially as years of playing have taken a toll on the joints) .... great value & my favorite acoustic.

Tried all the guitars under a grand I could get my hands on. Not just at L&M. This was the best. The new model at L&M had somewhat high action, but they had a rental that was already setup, so I bought that and saved a bunch of money as well. Can't speak for each individually, but the intonation on mine blows my mind. I didn't think it possible on an acoustic guitar to intonate this well. Would give more stars for effect if I could. Try it and believe.

I recently bought a new Gibson 415 CEX, had it for a few days, found it very "dead" sounding, and new strings didn't help, took it back and got another one, had frets lifting...traded that for a 415W?, didn't like that, so I traded for a J-15, J-15 was decent, but just not worth the dough, so I went back to my L&M, ended up trading it for this Epiphone Masterbilt, LOVE IT!!! from the electronics to the acoustic tone, this thing rocks...I wouldn't think about trading this for any of the sub $2000 gibsons..it's all solid wood, hand made, top quality woods, and flawless, no imperfections at all...the electronics are super cool to play with, and performs amazing for gigs....the nano-mag will even handle distortion tones well....I'm a huge fan of this Epi, and no typically ugly epiphone headstock!!

Thank you L&M for helping me out on this purchase. I actually bought 2 from Amazon first and returned them. They had their issues (fret buzz and uneven pickup outputs). But the guitar in store was perfect. I also learned that the fret buzz may be caused by the humidity of the guitar's wood being too dry, and after checking online, found this to be probable. So I also took the advice to get a hard shell case and humidifier. This guitar will last me a lifetime. Third time's a charm when bought in store from knowledgeable salespeople!

No surprises, it was exactly what i paid for. Fit and finish was top drawer, mind you I did have it in my hands before buying. Actually, they had two in the store and i liked this one more than the other. I had a budget and i played quite a few different guitars over a couple days before deciding. Always play before buying lol.

Solidly built guitar with well rounded sound. Good sound projection without being too boomy. String height from frets can vary and small issues with finish from factory - choose best of best or get setup = makes a big difference in sound.

A fantastic solid-wood acoustic bargain! I'm amazed at all the features this guitar possesses, which are shown in the specs. However, one thing that's NOT mentioned that I think is rather important is the fact that these have Plek'd necks -- hence no buzz at any of the playing positions. This, and the stereo outs make this a great recording guitar for those on a budget but needing a great sound. My only issue was the loose pickup connections on the guitar. However, a minor issue. The guitar sounds great on its own, mic'd or plugged into one or both outputs. The Shadow pickup system on this guitar is quite outstanding -- especially in stereo where you can assign bass notes to pan on one side of a recording and treble notes to the other side and everything inbetween. It sounds fantastic and adds so much life to your recordings.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
