Traynor YGL1 15-watt All-Tube 1x12 Guitar Combo
The Traynor YGL1 15-watt all-tube 1x12 combo is the ideal 'tone monster' combo for stage and studio.

Easy to Find Your Sound
Simple Gain, Bass, Mid, Treble and Master controls make it easy to dial in that perfect tube sound. The three-stage mode switch makes the YGL1 one of the most versatile small combos in this class.

USA / Brit / Pure Modes
The mode switch relocates the tone stack relative to the gain stage, giving the YGL1 either a crisp 'American' style tube amp tone for clarity and definition (USA mode) or a grittier, more 'spongy' 'British' flavor associated with the great UK amps of the 60s and 70s ( Brit mode).

The third option is a "Pure" mode which bypasses the tone stack entirely, delivering a mid and overall gain boost allowing for the most direct signal path possible between your fingers and the speaker.

Built for Reliability
The Traynor YGL1 is made in Canada combo is made in Canada using solid plywood cabinet construction, a single Celestion Greenback speaker, heavy gauge steel chassis, high quality pots and jacks and is covered by Yorkville Sound's two-year unlimited warranty*.

...does it sound good? yes. tonal charm, neato subtle switching for a few gain/tonal choices (on the fly while recording i find this extremely useful). reverb sound is good, balanced tonally and does some kooky overtone/warble things when turned up, very musical IMO.
only need would be a class move at this price to include an amp cover, because this amp gets gigged.

Like many things Canadian, this amp is a bit staid looking, boxy and stripped down, but that said, it is also solid and well-manufactured. More importantly, it delivers the tones. Serious tones that go from creamy, crystal-edged cleans to pugnacious full-faced rock and roll. Super yummy! It makes you want to play more, and shows you that you might just be a better player that you previously believed. All three EQ profiles (USA, PURE, and Brit) are instantly playable and instantly distinctive. The USA mode is a fav of mine and delivers chime and tasty string dynamics that belie that there are EL84s in the power section of the amp. The three-band EQ is well-voiced with all points on the dial bringing something useful. Some people have commented that there is not enough bottom-end, but for my money the bass tones of this amp are beautifully articulate while still providing bottom-end punch. No tubby bass. Looking forward to seeing how the Celestion Greenback breaks in over time. I would definitely put this amp in the zone with a Fender Deluxe Reverb for its ability to be a soundstage for superior rock, country and blues tones. Okay, no tremolo or spring reverb, but for quality of guitar tone, it has it in spades. And besides, the amp takes pedals VERY well, transparently blending them into the circuit as if they were built-in -- something the Fender Bassbreaker 15 that I sold to buy this amp did not do well, IMHO. Finally, the amp is QUIET (so far at least). I play an American '52 re-issue Tele, and this amp makes the single coil PUs nearly buzzless. This was astounding after years of plugging into Fender amps only to have the guitar buzz like a cheap radio when not playing it. I sometimes even forget that I have left the guitar volume up when not playing. There's more to say, but all in all, this is an amp to check out. Boutique tones in a strong, humble Canadian plywood box. I'm very pleased to have found my way to the Traynor YGL-1.

Simple very effective tube amp. I had a Line 6 combo amp and wasn't happy with the sounds, I played around for about two years trying sounds, so I rented the Traynor and never took it back, I did buy it. Instant gratification. When I run my zoom multi effects pedal thru it, it sounds awesome, takes playing to a new level

I own and have owned many amps including Badcat Cub, Dr Z Maz 18, Mes DC-5, Ampeg V4, Fender Concert and Deluxe Reverb, Peavey Classic 30. The Traynor YGL1 stands up to any amp and is easier to find your tone than most amps. I use it on Pure mode and play out/shows often. There is plenty of clean headroom for stage volume and a nice smooth yet gritty od when you need it. I use a large pedal board as I am the only guitarist in the band and the amp loves them all. I got mine used at L@M for 499. with warranty but would have paid full price. RECOMMENDED.......BUY IT

I have owned many great amps including Badcat Cub, Dr Z Maz 18, Mesa DC-5, Peavey C-30, Fender Concert and Deluxe Reverb among others. This Traynor is the BEST sound and value out there. I play edgy rock and blues music and play out. This amp can handle the stage volume and gives me all the clean headroom I need as well as a sweet od. I push it with a MXE Micro amp, OCD and Soul Food for clean boost. I got mine for $499. used but would have paid full had this not been available with warranty. Buy it!!!

Sounded great with a humbucker guitar but anything with single coils took a while to get a usable sound, way too harsh sounding. If you look on YouTube all the videos seem to be with les Paul style guitars. Swapped out the sovtek ax7s for balanced set from electro harmonic and it is like a different amp. Now sounds great with my Strat. 3 position ‘amp’ selector switch, foot switchable gain, and effects loop are good features. Personally I don’t think much of the reverb but I think that’s because I’m spoilt with a nice pedal,

Tried one out a year ago while both my boys where buying amps for themselves. I was quite impressed with the Traynor YGL-1, made in Canada. It would have been the one I would have bought. One of the boys purchased a Vox AC15C1, the other a Fender Bassbreaker15. About 6 moths later, I picked up a used Hughs & Kettner Tubemeister18 combo. I built a custom cab & installed a 12" Eminence Red White & Blues. Nice combo, 28lbs. Still interested in the Traynor, I found this Tweed version used on Kijiji. The original Red Ruby speaker was replaced with a Celestion Greenback & came with a dual footswitch. I decided to jump on it. Love the sounds that come out of this amp. Very loud & open sounding for a 15 watt, much more punch than the H&K. The reverbe is unbelievable, for digital. About 5 times more than my H&K, quite a bit more then the Bassbreaker. Run on 2, is quite nice, after that you can surf on huge waves up to 10. The boost with the foot pedal is very nice, also reverb defeat. Nice crunch, great on the Brit mode. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a 15 watt combo. A bit cheaper then others in it's class, great value. Moodivarius from Dryden, ON.

Bought it on sale for 479 at longueuil store. From their renting department. Totally gives a new life to my gibson les paul tribute. From flick of a switch, fender tweed to marshall, i love the pre amp switch. The american clean sound has nothing to shy from fender blues or twin, the gain at 8 gives that Bonamassa sound. The british with gain on 7, my neck pick up sounds almost pure clean while the bridge pick up has all the dirty les paul grind. Nice tube break up arount 7 on gain. Would totally buy another one if stollen. I even sold my marshall valvestae 2000 avt 100. 15 watts tube, is loud!

So love this amp. I have the blonde limited edition. The greenback speaker is a perfect match. I play primarily electric at our church and love the headroom it has. Great chime to it. Super versatile with the selector switch. If you are in the market for a Blues Jr, AC15 or Princeton....do yourself a favour and try this out first.

I have gone thru a few tube amps, trial and return (Long & McQuade are very good about trade in deals) and this one is a keeper. I have 2 tube combos...the first one was a keeper from the get go; Vox AC 15 c1. The Traynor YGL1 is all that I could ask for in a single channel tube amp. The Pure, Brit, and USA selector switch is simple yet amazing. Has an effects loop. The vox doesn't. Vox has standbye switch. Traynor doesn't. No big whoop either way. If I was to have one amp only...I might probably go with the Traynor. Simpler, smaller, lighter. Awesome sound!

I wanted a low watt tube amp with zero effects (I want to be able add the effects I wanted when I wanted them with pedals) This is a nice little amp that performs well. I'm able to get great country twang, soft blues, and heavy classic rock sound from this. It's only draw-back might be the price. It's a bit pricier than other tube amps; but it makes up for that in the fact that the sound stays "sharp" right up to full volume. Most other amps distort at higher volume. In short, does exactly what I wanted. And it's made in Canada.

I was recently dwindling down my small tube amp "to buy" shortlist and ended up with a Blues Junior and an AC15....until I tried a YGL1 at L&M in Moncton. I saw one in the catalog and decided to give it a go...MAN! What an amp...it's basically like getting a Fender, a Vox and a Marshall plus a Traynor unique amp all in one. I decided to rent one for a month to see if the honeymoon would end, but I have fallen in love with this amp and will be buying one ASAP. Glad to support Canadian and at a much better value than the Fenders and Voxes. At this point I would take this amp over ANY other.

In a previous review I stated I was having sound issues with this amp, to be fair I need to post an updated review, I had the amp in for service again and looking at the output on the scope it seems the output breaks up when the gain of the amp is up over 2.5 to 3. I have been using the amp with the volume up, gain low, and the pre amp set to the bypass position. It's working well now, sounds good and is plenty loud.

First thanks to Danny at the Calgary South store for taking the time to drag all those Amps into the sound booth to try out ;) I had been looking for something that was easy to carry to Jam sessions(my 70 pound Crate combo has gotten just too much to drag around ;) In the final running was the Traynor YGL1 and The New Fender Bassbreaker 15W 1x12 Tube Combo Amp. Both great sounding small Tube combos. I found the Traynor just seemed to a have a much bigger, warmer sound to it. It has the lovely Chime. When you add an extension cabinet it brings out a little more of the rich sound, but you can quickly find the limit of its 15 watts. On own It's loud enough to play along with a session of Drums,Bass and Guitar. I wish it had a little more bottom end and a vibrato effect. At 35 pounds and it's price point it's remarkable. The Belton Digi-Log Reverb sounds great. The USA / Brit / Pure Modes is a nice idea, but it sounds so much better on the Pure mode which bypasses the tone stack entirely, delivering a mid and overall gain boost. Not a huge Pedal guy so I can't comment on using them. Some reviewers mentioned the 12AX7's that come with the amp. I think there using a better version of the Sovtek 12AX7's now. I did try some other lower gain Svetlana12AX7's,but lost some of the Chime. I think you really need High Gain 12AX7's, check with the tubestore if you want to make this amp sound even better. There is no doubt that different Tubes make for change in the over all tone. It's a well made solid combo that you will love to play.

Had this baby for a while. Perfect pedal platform. No complaints with the digital reverb at all. Actually, I found it better than most spring reverbs. Tone on this amp is great, as it cuts thru a mix. The gain isn't geared for distorting and more for setting the input sensitivity, just the way it should be. Spanky clean to just a little hair, perfect for puching with a TS9. Don't expect much bass, not its forte. Mid-range grind is where it's at here, and it brings dark pedals to life. Everyone's tastes are different and I prefer an amp with more bass.

I had this amp in my sights for a while after trying it out in the local L&M store and falling in love with it. It had great tone and versatility. Nice clean headroom. The toggle switch for pure/brit/american is handy. Toss a footswitch on and enjoy the boost feature, it is just the right amount for me. The reverb is really nice (for digital) and only a dab will do me. Just wish it had a standby...hence the 8 for features. I ended up buying one used (tan version...was looking for black but it has really grown on me) and will be using it for playing at our church. Kudo's to the folks at Traynor, they willingly mailed me a "Made in Canada" sticker for the front of it as mine was removed by previous owner. If you are considering a smaller tube combo amp like a Fender Blues Junior or similar, MAKE SURE YOU TRY A YGL1 FIRST!!!! You will be glad you did. If you still have doubts, rent one for a month...you will buy it.

Ok So I've been playing for a lot of years and have gone through various tube amps in my day. Features well its pretty basic but does offer an effects loop which is a nice touch on an amp of this price point. Also the different modes (pure brit and USA) are also kinda cool. I would have given it a ten if it had real reverb instead of digital although the digital is pretty good. Quality well the cabinet is well built and they didn't cheap out on particle board but reliability has been a big issue for me. More on that later. Value if it was more reliable then the value would be exceptional. My amp is about to go in for repairs and this is the second unit in 6 months to die unexpectedly. We'll see how Traynor handles the repair but I do have to say that the warranty is very good and the along and Mcquade is great to deal with as well. Overall, well I was tired of lugging around my Twin and my Deville so the the thought of a small combo really appealed to me. I rented the YGL1 and fell in love with the tone I could pull from it. It actually sounded a lot better than my Deville. After renting it for about a month I decided to buy one. I bought the Tan limited edition and brought it home. Plugged it in and NOTHING. Not a sound came from the amp!!! SO I took it back and Long and McQuade swapped it for a new one. I had that for about six months then at a gig last night I turned it on and NOTHING!!! Not a freak'n note! Right before a gig and I didn't have a spare. So I'm pretty skeptical about the Traynor reliability on this particular amp. Though I love the tone you might find mine for sale on Kijiji soon enough. I can't afford to have amps die on me every six months. If I had it to do again I would find an old YGM3 and buy that for about the same price I paid for the YGL1. Its old but those were the days when they did build them like tanks. Hand wired point to point. I bought the newer YGL1 because I was worried an old YGM3 would not be reliable. LOL. Oh well. HInd sight is 20/20. It seems like most of the reviewers have had better experiences then me so perhaps I'm just getting lucky here. Either that or I am lugging this amo around more than they are and maybe it doesn't handle moving around well. Though I do take care not to bump it or damage it because it is the limited edition. Maybe I should go buy a lottery ticket? Anyhow the tone is exceptional and thank god for the two year warranty!

Out of all the small 15 watt tubes amps I have owned this is a winner. Got rid of my Fender Blues Junior, after breaking in the speaker on the YGL. I phoned the Tube Store for a replacement set of tubes , kept the JJ EL84 but changed out the 12ax7 Sovteks to TUNG-SOL, and :What A Difference IN The Sound, in every way, for 30.00 it is a worthwhile mod.

Bought this amp six months ago, "I love it" Phoned the Tube Store in TO to get a spare set of tubes, "they automatically upgraded me to the TUNG_SOL 12ax7, and wow. The JJ El84 are good tubes, however the TS tube compared to what came in amp, was no contest as far as preamp tubes. For 30.00 you can really kick this amp up a notch.

Wow, well, where to even begin...definitely won't go over any of the features but I will describe my personal experience with the amp this far. Basically I use this amp with the gain at 10 all the time, no need for cleans with the music I play. I pretty much strictly keep it on the PURE mode although I must say that the all three modes sounds terrific but just not for the style of music I play. I play music from Foo Fighters to Oasis to Alexisonfire...it does Foo Fighters and Oasis very well but not so much Alexisonfire. Not being a fan of overdrive/distortion pedals, I crank a MXR Micro Amp to 70% and it gives me enough distortion to achieve an Alexisonfire post-hardcore sound. Now, I don't play this amp past 3 on the volume dial for home use, not even sure I'm getting into power amp distortion but it still sounds great. Factory tubes are two JJ EL84 and two Sovtek 12AX7WA which are low noise but also not as high gain as other 12AX7's which means I'll definitely do a few tube comparions to get the most gain from the pre-amp section. It does have an effect loop but I prefer to run all effects through the front. Effects are as followed: Polytune-MXR Smart Gate-MXR Phase 90-MXR Micro Chorus-Boss RV3-MXR Carbon Copy-MXR Micro Amp

I was drawn to this amp because it is Canadian made, so I plugged into a tan colour one in the store and tried it out. I instantly fell in love with it. The first thing I noticed was how warm and professional the sound was. After owning it for almost a month now, I have to say it sounds even better now and I am extremly happy with my purchase. I've even left the "Made in Canada" sticker on the front! If you are looking for a high quality tube amp with rich, warm sound that rivals almost any amp under $800, look no further.

Beautiful sounding & looking package, easy to use & made in Canada. I've opted for the Ltd Edition Tan Only 100 available. I'll be keeping this puppy for a long time. Nothing like it in the marketplace. I'm being greedy here, a tremelo & standby would've been sweet, but for under $600, this can't be beat.

just rented it.. shot a video comparing it to my current amp.. i was considering a ycv40.. but i want controls on the front of the amp... hate leaning over when on stage with a bunch of gear and crap... anyhow... it really is incredibly crisp and defined when the gain is up.. clean is reminiscent of a peavey classic 30... the only issue i have with it is the lack of bass response.. but i hear that warms up over time...

I had been shopping for a while looking for a low wattage amp with great cleans that I could push with an overdrive pedal for a little dirt. I tried lots of amps, but this amp just blew me away! Outstanding clean and slightly dirty sounds that rival amps costing twice as much and takes the overdrive pedal very well. The brit/usa toggle switch is a great feature - I spend most of my time in usa mode and switch to the brit mode if I want a little earlier break-up. It's amazing how clean the usa mode will stay - even at higher gain settings. The 6 db boost is perfect for cutting through the mix for leads and is another great feature! Having built in reverb is also nice and sounds really good at lower settings. Playing my G&L Legacy through this amp with an overdrive pedal has finally given me the sound I've been looking for and I couldn't be happier with it!

A great amp, practice to performance, mike it for larger venues if it's not loud enough, but it's loud for a 12" 15 watt combo. Ice pick ? At first, right out of the box, but turn down the treble and let the speaker break in and you will hear a change. A nice variety of tonal options to suit alot of musical styles. The 6 db footswitchable boost is great to bring out a lead break. A solid, good sounding amp at a great price. No regrets.

Great amp except for the ice pick stabbing highs when playing the high strings up the fretboard. Ouch! EL84 tubes commonly cause this.

Walked in to L&M to buy a Fender $1000 Super Reverb. Walked out with this $600 YGL-1. I would have paid $1000 for it. Astounding clean and dirty tones. Very classic 60s-70s Fender-Marshall-AC15 voicings.

Built like a tank, no tube rattle, great tone without shaking the house town, and grab & go. Better sounding than amps twice as expensive, and I've had twenty of them.

Rented this for a few days. amazing tone. Just pulls the music out of you. Convenient size and sounds good at low volume. Reverb was the biggest surprise. I can't imagine an amp getting much better unless you spend a mint, and even then I think this would still sound pretty good.

This amp is great. I've owned or played several other small tube combos (blues jr, ac4tv10, etc) and the YGL-1 is the best I've come across. This amp sounds great. I had a ycv50 but prefer the class A type amp for more of the blues and classic rock sounds. Even at 15 watts, this thing is loud. It does everything I want and sounds great doing it.

I have just purchased the new Traynor YGL 1 amp, and I have to say this is one of the best all tube combo's I have ever played. I have owned many boutique and production amps over the years and I have never written or commented on any gear I have owned. This amp needs nothing other than the guitar plugged into it. It is very warm, lots of clean head room, and turning up the gain can give a really nice slightly over-driven organic tone. The master volume is very responsive allowing you to really play at bedroom levels and still maitian a rich warm tone. The Belton digital reverb is one of the most surprising features of the amp. I am a spring reverb addict, but the verb on this amp is as close as it gets. This amp will become a studio work horse for me as well as some live performing settings. The US / pure / brit switch really changes things up, with the pure setting bypassing the eq. section for the purest signal possible. This amp is definitely boutique sound and quality for less than half the price. Try the amp and let your ears make the decision for you.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
