Youtube video product demo

Description: The all-tube Traynor YBA100 100-watt bass head has been designed to be the ultimate tube head for the working musician. LED indicators on the rear of the amp show proper tube function and status. In rare cases where a tube may fail, the YBA100 will lock out the problem tube and its partner, allowing the amp to finish the show on the remaining active tubes. Smaller, portable and accessible, the YBA 100 is a lunch-box style amp, lighter than most 100 watt tube amps on the market. The YBA100 is the ideal amp for today’s bassist, providing the ideal amount of output for tighter stage plots.

This head can hold its own ground against more expensive Fender and Ampeg tube heads at a fraction of the price. It is well engineered and sturdy. Even when I dont pay attention to the EQ I still always get a good tone out of it. Very easy to dial in. Better suited for classic bass tones from the 60's to the 90's. It is not 'Hi-fi' like some modern amps are. The sweet spot of this amp is to get the right amount of saturation from the gain knob to react to your playing dynamics. 3 x 12AX7 tubes in the preamp makes this head very musical. The head might seem a bit underpowered but it is a good thing if you like a cranked tone from the tube power amp. If you prefer a loud and clean tone, you are better with the 300W version of this amp, the YBA-300. I prefered the 100 W for my taste as I intended to crank it up for the styles I play. I already have 'clean amps' for other styles. I find 100 watts enough in most circumstances as I get PA support nowadays and we try to keep stages quiet. Handy Bright and low switch and parametric Mids Eq. The resonance switch is great addition Under normal operation is tightens the low end so you can have a very articulate sound. If you depress it, you get that old school rumbling sound. This head takes pedals so well, especially dirt and boost pedals. This head really begs to be cranked. The FX loop is line level and post DI. I dont find it very usefull the way it is implemented in the circuit. I normally put my delay pedal in the loop. Not on this amp as the signal is way too hot and wont carry to the PA if using the line out. I have used the send output to send to another power amp with great results. The character of the amp carried to the other amp.

I'm in love with this amp. I've never owned a full valve head before, so I personally won't be able to give comparisons, but it really seems to do everything incredibly well. If you love grit you can dime the gain & use the master for volume. If you love a huge, round tone, dime the power amp & use the preamp gain for volume. The power tubes can be swapped for EL34s if even more overdrive is needed.. I haven't tried that myself yet..
Using the resonance switch also adds another dimension to the low end or upper bass range that fills the room quite beautifully, without any mud.
The deep, bright, resonance & standby switches themselves feel a bit unsubstantial but I bet they'll last for what they need to do. Dial it in & you're set.
A huge selling point for me is the mid frequency pot. I'd go for the Traynor over an Ampeg any day for the ability to dial in the mids exactly where you like em, instead of presets that are close enough. I love to crank the midrange, so I sold an SVP-PRO & Ampeg power amp setup mostly because of that limitation. If you're worried about whether an amp like this has enough for stage volume, with a good cab or two & some mids, I really can not imagine having an issue.
These guys are made down the road, the price is excellent & the warranty is also better than most. I'm a very happy boy so far.

This is a warm, quiet and powerful head that is essentially a mini Super Bassman! Without all of the issues of the YBA-200, Traynor really got this one right. It's small enough to lug around and sounds amazing plugged in direct via the DI out, pre or post. Controls are intuitive and nicely balanced. I had high expectations but man did this exceed them.

The much awaited YBA-100 is Traynor's first all-tube lunchbox amp design. It's based on the YBA-300 preamp, with Bax/James tone stack (like an SVT, but with a more useful semi-parametric mid control). It has a warm tone, breaks up beautifully, takes effects like a champ, and is exceptionally quiet. Highly recommended!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
