The 12 Step is a chromatic keyboard foot controller that uniquely sends MIDI via USB or MIDI interface to your computer allowing you to control your favorite soft synth, MIDI keyboards, and MIDI sound modules simply by using your feet. Each key is velocity and pressure sensitive and can store up to 5 notes for impressive chord designs that can be triggered quickly, and without ever laying a finger on the keys. Each 12 Step key can use the tilt control and pressure of your foot to control parameter such as pitch bend, polyphonic, aftertouch, or any MIDI CC value that can easily be assigned with the included software editor, which lets you create user defined presets for future performances. The 12 Step also incorporates visual cues via corresponding LEDs next to each key, that will help to keep track of the 59 factory, and up to 128 user-made presets that are available.

Features:
12 Velocity sensitive, touch response keys
Play up to 5 notes per key
Rugged and durable carbon fiber construction
Expressive poly aftertouch, and pitch bend

My 12 Step's USB port broke shortly after getting mine, which is a real shame since it's a great concept. Apparently it can survive getting run over by a truck (as evidenced on the Keith McMillen website), and yet the USB port could not handle a few weeks of touring. I can still use it just fine when hooked up to a MIDI Expander, but unless I get another 12 Step, I won't be able to connect it to my computer. Shame, because I was looking forward to using it to play keyboard chords.

If you're using an audio interface and DAW with your guitar, this device is amazing. The biggest issue for me is finding the time to customize perfectly for my needs and play style. This is the future of guitar - highly recommend.

Not sure, if the unit I purchased was defective, although purchased new. But even after upgrading with the latest firmware, and setting the sensitivity to max, the keys intermittently and frequently failed to react to being pressed. Fortunately Long & McQuade is very good about returns, so I brought it back for a full refund after a couple of days. Once I have some extra time, I may test another unit in store and if that one works, I'd be happy to buy it,because the idea of the unit is great.

The 12 Step is a great little controller with a piano keyboard layout and illuminated keys. It is small enough to fit in a 1U rack drawer, its USB powered, it is solid and it is spill proof. What else do you need?

The 12 Step is a great little controller with a piano keyboard layout and illuminated keys. It is small enough to fit in a 1U rack drawer, its USB powered, it is solid and it is spill proof. The keys need a little getting used to, but you can adjust the sensitivity and that helped.

It's small and rugged with many features. A very versatile keyboard you can play with your feet while playing another instrument. It can also be used via midi learn to control your DAW. A little pricey, but very cool! I also own the Soft Step and use both at the same time. If I were to only buy one I would recommend this one.

We use this in two bands: one for the keyboard player to add an extra level, and in one band that has no keyboard player. Program whole chords, or single notes; use it for percussion sounds or effects; it is completely programmable. The keys are tough to play with your feet because they are fairly small, but it is so much less expensive than everything else out there that I can happily accept that minor flaw.
