Steep learning curve, but Helix level tone 2 of 2 customers found this review helpful

Having used the helix and been absolutely overwhelmed by it when I had it in my possession, I was glad to get rid of it. I then purchased a beautiful Deluxe Reverb and some pedals and found an immaculate tone. This amp reproduced it instantly. The response to finger touch is beyond anything I've played before. Watch out for: USB-Midi is complex and if you're looking for a good Native Instruments Guitar Rig pedal, this isn't it. It's something better. The learning curve for fitting it into a production setting is tough, but once you learn the ins and outs of it, you can use the really handy software to keep your feet on the board and hands on the guitar. I also recommend using the Impulse Responses you can find around the internet. It made a huge difference to the presence of my meager studio.

I picked this up primarily to replace my bass rig, and it's done everything I need it to. While there aren't as many bass options as there is guitar pedal and amp models, it does have a lot of cool stuff for bassists. The Ampeg amp models are a particular standout, and the effects I run sound great running through my 100W combo. Usually I use it live with an amp, and use the USB connectivity to record straight into my DAW for demos. Really versatile, would recommend it for someone looking to dabble with digital multi-FX without having to shell out a lot for a Helix.

This unit sounds awesome and there is a lot of very good presets on the line 6 custom tone website. It serves my purpose. It has basically the same amps and effects as the Helix but not the DSP. It handles external pedals well but the looper function in the system is not as good as an external one. I purchased it because of cost and ease of use. You can adjust on site easily. Aside from the DSP which would be nice if there was more this is a good well built unit. Yep, I'd like to have a Helix but it's cost is too much for what I'd use it for. Hooked up to a PA this is an amazing sounding unit.

This pedal sounds phenomenal. Only issue is that it runs of DSP fast so is not so much for experimenting.
I have some basic presets with OD, mod , delay and EQ, that’s all you need.
Recently used for a for weeding gig with a headrush FRFR 108 and also straight to the mixer and it’s amazing.

I recently downsized my guitar rig down to something really minimal as I generally only jam at best half an hour per day in my bedroom and I was playing with just my Yamaha THR 30WII. Even though I’m extremely pleased with it, I was missing the bug tuner screen, looper, preset switching, ludicrous amount of effects and other models I had with my helix before, so I went with this. I had the original pod red bean in the past and I loved that so this must be better, right? I decided the wireless feature wasn’t worth the extra money to me as I wouldn’t use it anyhow so I didn’t go for the pod go wireless. As I was familiar with pod’s big brother helix, getting up to speed with this was instantaneous. It sounded really nice when I used the THR in flat mode basically as a FRFR speaker for the pod go. I think the modelling is at helix level in the pod go and it maintains all the essential features I need and I’m glad I don’t have to pay for all the helix features I’d never use. It’s a unit with tons of potential and if you never used helix or this before, you will probably be messing around for a month or so before you extract the full potential of this unit, but don’t worry though you’ll have fun right away. I think the amps and effects sound really authentic, you will just need a good set of speakers to get the most out of this unit. It works really well with my THR.

This unit is absolutely incredible. The stock presets are alright, as well as the stock IR’s but if you download some presets, download some really nice IR’s and you will be absolutely amazed at this thing. I use it for recording and the sound quality is absolutely astounding. Like it is REALLY good. Especially for 600 bucks. Buy this, you will not regret it once you learn to use it.

Product Experience   I've tried it

I've had the Pod2.0, POD400 and 500. I rented this POD Go to give a go. Yes, it is very customizable and there are many, many presets available. On the plus, the clean (stock preset) sounds (Ala Fender amps) are great! On the downside, I found getting a good solid harder rock guitar sound fell into two categories: 1) Way too overdriven and fizzy 2) The amp sounded like it was mic'd down a long carboard tube, with the mids boosted and all the low end rolled off. (think of an exaggerated Greenback Marshall amp from an 80s metal band) Many of the speaker cabs were thin, had mid range "honk" to them. Using the e.q only seemed to thin out the sound more and the presence diminished. I found the available ODs are very harsh/static sound when engaged. Difficult to add subtle drive while keeping the presence of the original tone. I really wanted to like this product. I gave it a sold 2 weeks of exploring but when it came to jamming with a band plugged into the studio, I just couldn't bond with it. The IRs are a cool plus! Maybe you can get your tone with this unit, but I will be passing for now on this. L&M have been outstanding as usual with their service and rentals!

I have had the Pod Go for just over a week. I bought it from the Burlington store, after reading a lot of reviews of it on the web. It does not disappoint, in my opinion. I have had both kinds of set-ups (Pedal board with individual pedals) and Multi-effects. I have tried or owned the following Boss GT-100, Boss GT-1000, Zoom G3, Zoom G7.1ut, Zoom MS50, Korg A4, Helix LT, Helix Stomp. It is very easy to program. The colour display and the coloured rings on the footswitches really help you when you are in Stomp Mode. So this has regular patch mode, stomp mode (where you can turn off and on individual effects for a patch), and finally Snapshot Mode (where you can have 4 snapshots - different settings within a patch). It is able to use IR (Impulse Responses) and I have a few of those, but honestly, the cabinets are so good, some people dont bother with them. And here is where the rubber meets the road. Does it sound good? Yes! I think it sounds great. After a few days of tweaking patches and downloading patches, I did a jam with a drummer. Straight into our mixer, and listening back through In-Ears. We recorded it, and played it back. I was pleasantly surprised. I would say the only con, is that you have limited effects blocks. You get 4 besides the volume, amp, eq, and wha. It was plenty for me, but if you need more, go for the Helix. And it is a single chain out (it can be stereo or mono though)

First, thanks to Long and McQuade Vancouver for getting this to me in Whitehorse in less than a week. I’ve only had it for a few hours, but so far the presets are decent. Plug and play into my audio interface and iPad DAW. Even laid down a track this evening. The stomp mode is impressive (with options for engaging and bypassing 4effects on the fly), stereo out is nice, and I’m looking forward to running my hardware synth through it. So much to explore!

Got my Pod Go last weekend at the Surrey store. Unpacking and getting started was easy. Connections are simple and straight forward. A very nice feature is that you can connect a recorded music source such as an I-Pod, connect a pair of headphones and play with your favourite songs while others in your home can be in peace and quiet. The manual is to be downloaded from the Line 6 website, as well as the software for the editing program, a very slick and intuitive application. I do find that there is a bit of noise coming from my Blues Junior IV amp and that same happens when I run it through my Roland Cube 60. I guess I need to do a lot more fine tuning in the weeks ahead. The features on this machine are unbelievable, there are literally thousands of amp and effects combinations possible, you can also add your own flavour to the sounds and create your own favourite tones. $ 619 + taxes wasn’t cheap, but now that I have the Pod Go I find the amount charged good value for all the tools that you get. Built quality is very good, the LCD screen, knobs and foot switches all ooze quality. I also have the 1998 kidney bean shaped red Pod made by the same company, but the new Pod Go is in a complete different league and no comparison with the two is a fair thing to do. The hunt for the perfect tone is on, it will take me a while with the thousands of sounds you can create. But once you do, you can save the settings and give them an individualized name for easy finding them back. It sounds great with my Fender Strat, Gretch hollow body, my Epiphone Dot and even with my Yamaha electric acoustic. Highly recommended.

I've been recording with my POD GO for over half a year now. Let me start by saying that I have always adored the Helix family. However, Line 6 never yet offered an all-in-one Helix solution with a reasonable mid-ranged price. But now we have the POD GO. POD GO is basically like a single-channel Helix (sounds just like one too, I've done the comparison in my DAW) with the ability to load Impulse Responses. Worried about limited DSP? Don't be. I have tried, and I have not run out of DSP, nor have I heard any artifacts/glitches. I believe this is because there are dedicated pedal slots before and after your pre/power amp section. I thought this was a limitation, but it really is just simplification. Leaves no guesswork to be done. Simple to use. Amazing. Is it simple to use like Helix? ABSOLUTELY. It is so ridiculously EASY to program any tone you can imagine using JUST THE HARDWARE. This is before plugging it into your computer by USB and using the POD GO editor which is even more amazing. Even the switches and the materials used for the pedals and housing feel very solid. Just so you truly understand what this thing can do.. I play an extensive range of genres on 6, 7, and 8 string guitars with many different pickup configurations. I promise you that this portable-sized unit will get the job done for you, EVERY TIME. Heartwarming cleans, crunchy overdriven goodness, aggressive hi-gain, gnarly tones worthy of a true djentleman, you can even gaze at your shoes!. POD GO can do it all. Still not satisfied with the way your tone is sounding? Just load up an IR and instantly hear your tone presented in a different setting. IT'S THAT EASY. Review getting too long. Too many words to praise POD GO. Must end here and rest. Just go buy one and thank me later. tl;dr: POD GO is an all-in-one amp modelling and multi-effects processor that is ridiculously amazing for its modest price. If you're on a budget, and in the market for such a product, just buy this. You will not regret it.

Have had Helix Floor and LT, pedals, modeling amps. Just buy this one. If you don't have to have split signal chains, full stereo, digital interface to a powercab - you will be impressed. Light, small for the functionality..., if you have used HX/Edit - just pick one up and get using it!

This is my first experience with a multi-effects pedal. The HX models and IRs coming from this unit sound amazing. Line 6 did an amazing job in creating a unit that is very portable but has enough versatility for most people (unless you need parallel a chain). I would have liked one more block in the signal chain or have the ability to swap with the wah. Still, there are ways around this, such as adjusting the base level with some dirt when a distortion pedal is off, and then have higher distortion when it's engaged; also, you can add external pedals of your own in the Fx loop. Quality of the unit is excellent and seems very robust. It's very intuitive/ easy to use. Should be called something like "HX Mini" and "HX Go" as I feel it's more akin to the HX family. I highly recommend this unit.

Gone are the days of looking at a backline rig at a show and sighing, 'really, they only have a Line 6.' Sure the Helix is great (Full, LT and Stomp), but with so many great products coming around at prices that most can stomach - Moore, Headrush, Fender Mustang, Boss Katana... - Line 6 has felt like it's been missing a product in that sub $750 category. Enter the Pod Go. Not only that, this thing slays the competition by a landslide. Amp models, cabs and mics are great (my one IR works a dream with all of them). Boost, Fuzz, OD, Distortion surpassed most other modeling units I've used. Modulation, delay and reverbs are getting close to Strymon or Eventide level. Comps, Gate, EQ and Pitch are all spot on, and can head into overkill territory at max settings. And it doubles as a great bass companion, especially if you are running into an amp with a DI. Having 8 switches is the sweet spot, but you can add more. A volume pedal, FX Loop, onboard interface, usb editor, responsive tuner. Honestly, this makes the Helix feel like you aren't getting your money's worth. Really worth it for home, studio, eventually some gigging use. But not without some small downsides, and just want to share those: - Wall plus AC is absolute crap. If line 6 has come this far and listened to their users, how could they miss this. Ferrite is a nice addition, but the brick is clunky and not 'stage-ready' let along studio ready. - Volume Pedal is hard to map to pitch, programming tap for delay does not work in time mode (only division mode), patch switching modes are hard to navigate. - Gig bag in the huge box would be worth a $30-50 price increase. (Please get better at packaging for our Earth's benefit). - USB cable is not long enough. These are not deal breakers at all, and generally apply to all other modeling units for the most part. This thing is way too fun, easy to use, and worth every penny. If you are looking for a feature rich floor unit that won't break the bank, looking to curb that $3500 a year pedal addiction, thought you wanted to go Helix but constantly ask 'what is a MIDI?' you absolutely should just buy one!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
