The MicroBass, or M-Bass, is a 23" short-scaled acoustic/electric bass guitar that utilizes a dedicated synthetic string made by the Aquila company and a piezo transducer pickup that deceivingly packs far more of a wallop than what meets the eye. The extended scale length greatly improves intonation over similar models and allows for an acoustic volume loud enough to enjoy without plugging into an amplifier. The sloped ergo-glide top makes this instrument extremely comfortable to hold.

- Bone nut
- 19 Frets (Fretted and Fretless)

I've had this bass for 2 years! It is fantastic! Great warm tone, simple, easy to hold, even for newbies. Nice finish and gig bag. Plays soft tones, but hooked up to bass amp: almost like a steel string bass. Could be played acoustic at low volume levels. Enough frets for most applications. High tones also good. Well set up. Onboard tuner. Must lift strings from nut while tuning. May be difficult to get strings, but they last half a year or more. Special technique to change; cut to length first. Must watch video on it: https://youtu.be/fpEaAYRQda4 Strings stretch a lot, rubbery. Expensive to order online. But I found some at Long & McQuade, in the bass section. Bought the last packs. (I cut one of the strings too short.) May have to rewind several times, recutting strings. Can also replace with silverwound nylon strings for more punchy attack bass sound. Play with a bit of corn starch on the ends of fingers of both hands to avoid sticking to the strings. No pain while playing. I nvolves flat round batteries available at Dollar Stores. These have to be changed regularly. Cheap tho. Nut, where it plugs in to patch cord occassionally comes loose, as with most electro-acoustic guitars; just retighten. I use a cord with an on/off switch, which I recommend. Some feedback when playing too close to amp. Very comfortable playing instrument. People idolized me because of the innovative look and smallness of the guitar.

Intonation has been a big problem with this bass. Sound is great but resonance is uneven on the strings. Switched out the Thundergutz for black Pahoehoe's. They're problematic, too, but not as liable to stretch as unevenly as the Thundergutz. The PU is an acoustic guitar PU, I think, and a bit delicate. Having to lift the strings over the nut is awkward. I switched out the pre-amp with a larger one with no tuner. Love this instrument for portability fun factor, but the strings are a nightmare. No other small bass comes close so I'd buy one again. Maybe a 25" and maybe fretless. I gave this 3 stars, but I give Long and McQuade 5. They're the best.

Excellent little ultra-portable, fun to play and with a surprisingly rich acoustic tone, similar to a standup. I won't comment on its electric capabilities because I didn't buy it to plug in. If I have to use an amp, I'll stick to my 36"-scale Ibanez Axstar or at least my ancient 34" Fender Precision. My biggest complaint is that it could be a little larger and louder. More than 2 loudly-played steel-string acoustic guitars can tend to drown it out unless you pluck it hard near the bridge. I wish Long&McQuade carried the 25" model. 30" would be even better if the extra size all went into body size and it still used those great polymer strings. Speaking of the strings, if you want to play with a pick you'll need some silicone lubricant. Overall, it's an excellent LITTLE bass for acoustic gigs, around the campfire and simply jamming with acoustic instruments when you don't want the hassle of an amp. Could be cheaper though.

Expertly adjusted by Mr. Bob at the Delta store, this is a terrific fretless instrument and a great fun to play. Re: previous review. The manufacturer's flyer says that you *must* lift strings above the nut when tuning. Not doing so will thin out the strings at the nut and void the warranty on strings.

What a ton of fun. My friends a bass player with 50+ years of experience and he loves playing my little goldtone micro bass. It`s a soft and solid sounding guitar when plugged into an amp. It`s so easy on the fingers when playing and so inviting to play with. Go get one you`ll love it!! Bought mine for $400.00 plus tax a few months ago

Good sound with amp.Not so much without.String tuning is hit and miss.Turn the tuning pegs and no change in tune.Need to lift string up off headstock nut because rubber type strings will not slide. When plucking or slapping or just playing the bass, the noise created from your fingers on the body is louder than the strings being played.Almost impossible to bend the rubbery strings.Good for running scales and practice. Can't imagine using a pick with these strings as they have the grip of silicone rubber.I am going to swap the strings out for regular strings and see how that goes.I know this comes across as very negative but it is a fun Bass to hack around on.My other reviews have never been shown here so this may never be posted.Oh well...

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
