Background:
In the 1970s, Yorkville Sound was the first company we know of to design and build dedicated keyboard amplification. That was their ground-breaking "RVS" line. Since then their introduction of the Traynor Bloc-100K in the early 1980s, Stage 100K in the later 80s and a succession of influential models since then has established Yorkville as a premier innovator in this field. The Traynor K series makes this amply clear.

K4 Details:
The Canadian-built Traynor K4 is an advanced, extremely versatile stereo keyboard amplifier capable of delivering a wide and varied tone pallet at high stage volume levels. Flagship of the Traynor K series, the K4 uses three separate integrated amplifiers to deliver true stereo separation of the mid and high frequencies with the added bottom end of a separate 200-Watt low-frequency amplifier driving a 12-inch woofer.

A pair of 50 watt amplifiers powers 4.5-inch midrange and 2.5-inch high-frequency drivers mounted in stereo pairs on an angled front baffle. This variation of the 2.1 speaker configuration allows a stereo image to be amply felt onstage.

One of the most versatile amplifiers of its kind, the K4 offers four channels and a switch-selectable choice of tube or solid-state input stages. The tube circuit uses a pair of 12AX7As for adding warmth and smoothness to the often-sterile sound of modern digital keyboards. Thanks to Lead Level and OD Trim controls, you can create natural tube compression and recreate the subtle dynamics that can't be properly emulated by most of today's digital workstations. For greater effect, this preset can be footswitched in and out.

The crisp, clean solid-state input stage is ideal for those times when precise definition of acoustic samples or instruments is required.

Versatile inputs allow two stereo sources to be connected to Channel One, while an additional stereo source or a microphone can be connected to Channel Two. Channel Three can handle an additional stereo keyboard or any other source including MP3 player or laptop where additional EQ control isn't required. Channels One and Two have separate 3-band EQ's for tone shaping, while Channel One offers an additional 5-position Voicing circuit with four presets - Studio, Live, Piano & Organ - plus an Off setting.

An indepenant fourth stereo input channel with its own Gain control can be found on the rear panel of the K4. It directly feeds the power amp section, bypassing the Line Out and Master volume. This versatile feature allows an external click track, drum monitor mix or monitor feed from the PA or recording console to be played through the K4 as if it were a monitor and without being in the audience or recorded mix.

Built for the rigors of the road, the Traynor K4 is manufactured using a solid, void-free plywood cabinet construction and an all-metal grille to protect the high quality speaker components.

- True Stereo Configuration in a combo amplifier format
- 300 watts (200 watts low frequency, 2 x 50 watts mid / high frequencies)

I play electronic drums, and over the years have tried different amps for them. The K4 is by far the best one I've used, as it can handle the low frequency bass at a high volume. It's great even on stage at small to medium size venues. Great amp!

I used this amp for my Hammond XK-1. I've been buying amps for keyboards for 45 years and this one is simply the best keyboard amp I ever owned. I no longer play professionally but I wish I had had this amp years ago. Cheers on a fine piece of engineering.

Currently renting it. Was hoping I could use the left/mono input for my piano, and my pads on the other two right channels, and then send two separate lines out via the xlr's to the FOH. Unfortunately the left channel just sends whatever is in it to both L and R outs. Id rather have two separate outs because in a big room who really cares about stereo?

I am a rock guitarist who also uses a guitar synth unit. I was looking for an amp with as flat a response as possible and needed extreme versatility ... this is the amp! This amp can singe eyebrows in the front seats or be used for personal monitoring on large stages. It was important to me that what i hear coming from the amp was represented as precisely as possible in the FOH. It has a downcurve starting about 80 hz which is easily compensated for. As for the stereo effect, to those who are dissing, what do you expect as the left and right are so close together? In the FOH it will be large, don't worry, it's still useful for writing your patches and still it fattens up the depth fairly well. It's truly a great amp, i love it. BTW, ya it's a little heavy, but it will give your arms a little exercise lol!

As a monitor, It just doesn't fill that stereo requirement, maybe because the channels are sharing a woofer. It is also very very harsh sounding and is VERY heavy. I rented it twice but have moved to using two EP10 powered PA speakers on either side. Now THAT is stereo!

I always played thru monitors, With this unit you have all the controls its pretty well laid out. And for the extra money (larger unit) its worth it, I played outside in Large venue in basement rehearsal and it still sounds good, plenty of headroom, Being a Bass player myself, this unit as a well thought out frequency range, You play a drum machine and you think the drummer is actually in the box!! I play my piano thru it and sounds lovely my Synth and the low end kick ass! And with all it's input no need for a mixer anymore. Overall I'm very happy, A little heavy but my Bass amps were always heavier, But that's the price you pay for a good sounding amps totally recommend it.

Had one, traded it, but planning to get another one soon. Excellent sound reproduction, crisp and clean! Great stereo separation for stereo keyboards etc! Only issue is it's a little heavy to carry around, but the dual carry handles really help. This is an excellent amp for small gigs and rooms. I even used it for a school dance for about 100 kids, no problem at all!

Very happy. Finally the band is asking ME to turn down. It has a great stereo sound, and the smiles of appreciation you get from band mates when they hear the swirling stereo image is worth the price of admission. It has held up for 3 years now with no signs of letting up. Highly recommended.

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
