Yeah. Sounds better than the other bass that I used about 10 years ago. I found the sound i want in this bass. Some said it is a beginner bass but if a beginner try this bass they will sound like a intermediate to pro.

I am pretty pleased with its performance. Out of the box, some tuning tweaks and then a great opening experience.

I've bought and played Yamaha drums for +25 years. I wanted to learn bass, and bought this Yamaha guitar. Yamaha gear, high, or low end is always good stuff, and this is a prime example. The finish is stunning (Old Violin Sunburst). The sound is more than I expected and I would strongly advise a nice amp to compliment this guitar. The tone I achieved is what I always wanted so I'm totally pleased knowing that the quality of Yamaha will last for decades to come.

This a a great bass, at a great price. Have had one for a few years now. The finish and set up from new on this bass is far better than others that i have paid 3 times as much for. Plays and sounds great.

Bought this many years ago (7 maybe?) to replace a way too heavy former bass (not a Yamaha). Currently running it through an older Crown 100w amp, and OMG what a sound!! Has never let me down in all the years and many, many shows. Holds it's tune, tone, and intonation with no issues. Very highly recommended.

If anyone is still dreaming about owning a Fender Bass (Made in the USA), keep dreaming dudes. What we are blessed with today are: South Korean, Indonesian, Mexican and..., believe it or not... even Made in China guitars that are just as good as those "Made in Yankee Land", but way overrated and overpriced. In short: Whenever you stop /

I'm just learning bass. I didn't want to spend a lot, but I have the means to buy good quality. This is not the cheapest entry level, but the build quality is much better than others. The sound is great. It would be nice if it had active electronics and better strings, but at the price point is probably the best value in its class. I may end up getting another bass later, but I won't be getting rid of this one.

My lucky day! There was one left at the store. Several salesmen at the store told me it was a good bass. The price comparison was astounding ($199). Got it home and plugged it into Reaper and what a great sound! It's everything the salesmen told me it was. Sure glad I bought this. Definitely would recommend this to others.

I bought this little thing as my guitar to bass transition toy. This was the first mis-conception. It's not a toy. After tweeking it to my liking, I realized, I just got myself a capital letters, BASS GUITAR, not a toy. Played that thing for a few months and got hooked up on that BASS sound for good. The next step was: I wanted to be Jaco. So I bought the cheapest fretless that I could find. Well, we (Squire fretless & I did not get along ). The Squire looked exactely as Jaco's home made conversion, except one thing: it had a plastic kind of fretboard (I don't even know what it was). Long storyshort: Thanks to L&McQ generous policy (30 days return no questions asked) I returned Squire and ordered another Yamaha TRBX 174 OVS with the intention to convert it to a fretless, with real rosewood fret board (Don't get mis-guided by that "Sonokeling" strange name. It is an Indonesian Rosewood. Not a Brazilian one, but still the real wood. Not a plastic (as I found it on Squire) and not a composite of any kind either. In any case, I truly enjoy playing my fretted Yamaha TRBX 174 OVS and am getting ready to rip the frets off, and experience the fretless sound of my second one. Both of them are an excellent starters for upgrading: KSM Bridge, Duncan noiseless picups, flat-wound strings... Anything that I could think of is still a steal comparing to ... I guess, I'm not allowed to mention any names here but, you know what I mean. Thank you Yamaha, thank you Long & McQuade for giving me so much fun for the fraction of the price of those "big, unmentionable names"

I started bass again after 14 years. As a casual player I wanted something affordable and wasn't looking forward to all the humming and popping sounds I had in my old squire jazz starter pack from the 90's. I found this Yamaha in Violin burst of $230 and paired it with the Ampeg BA-108 amp for $120. It is a fantastic pairing. The bass is very comfortable and the sound through the Ampeg is music to my ears...pun was intended. The only adjustment I had to make to the bass was lowering the pick-ups for personal sound preference. Also as a bonus, when I am not using the bass I hang it on the wall as art and it really looks amazing.

Yamaha s'est surpassé avec cette basse d'entrée de gamme, excellente pour débuter l'instrument. La couleur OVS est géniale et le son de cette guitare me réjouit. 2 pick-up. Je viens de l'acheter et j'en suis fier.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
