the amp has a good sound to it , light weight , ok effects , my super champ x2 footswitch works perfect with it . Tried speaker swapping ...original sounds good , cannibus rex was an improvement ....warmer but ....ended up leaving a katana 100 speaker in it for the nicest tone .

I had often tried the Champion 100 at the nearest shop (Moncton) but to be honest, that might have been a bit overkill for my purposes (also the 40 is fairly light and can be moved around easily. Still, though, I like the 100 too - I wonder if two speakers adds something to the sound that one speaker doesn't ~ maybe I'll get the Champion 100 too someday too LOL). I am mostly interested in the clean amp models on this and I tend to stick with the Princeton amp model. I find this amp on a clean model is a great foundation for your pedals or multi-effects boxes. It 's clean settings can take pedals and multi-effects units well. Even by itself, it's higher gain amp models are great sounding. It can get quite loud and I never really maxed it but in the sunporch surrounded by windows I was afraid I'd break them haha!. Personally I'm using it mostly at lower volume with digital multi-effects into it. It's great for low volume so if you live in an apartment, this might be a good option (you know that can be an important feature - not everyone has their own warehouse or underground bunker where they can put their wall of Marshall stacks up to 11!). Actually (also) I'm finding my acoustic nylon string guitar sounds pretty decent into the Princeton amp model. Most often acoustics might not sound great into electric guitar amps (eg. perhaps some weird booming frequencies, etc). Maybe because the Princeton is a 10" speaker, it's model in this amp lends itself to being less bassy and boomy. Anyway, I'm totally glad I got this amp as opposed to some others with computer screens and more menu diving. I felt I just wanted simplicity and old school controls. I can do menu diving and making presets on my multi-effects units and have this amp as a clear reliable foundation with some simple controls if needed (ie, add a bit of reverb, adjust bass and treble knobs). I mostly add a bit of reverb as needed using this in combination with whatever patch I have made on my multi-effects units (Boss GT-1, Zoom G1on). Additionally, the knobs have totally zero wiggle (totally stable and they just rotate - absolutely no wiggle or loose lateral play which feels very solid!) . The knobs have a perfect resistance feel when turning (ie, a bit tight ~ not spinning very loose feeling). This amp has a real old school kind of feel and classic Fender look (love the look and sparkly grill cloth). It should be considered an option for anyone looking for a good reliable solid state/digital foundation that is light and portable and still has a 12" speaker for full bass frequency range!

Tones are quite varied, makes it a 6 or 7 tone amp, nice. BEST thing is the perfect automatic gate on the dist voices. There is virtually no hiss or hum, incredible! No note choking. Gain control is very responsive and functioning realistically. Clean channel sounds great and warm, nice low end on this. Overall a really great amp and its very loud. Missing: effects loops, "mid" tone control, speaker out

Lets face it this amp is very well priced so you should only expect limited performance, however you get some pretty impressive sounds out of this little guy and a two channel amp too boot. The effects also sound great. I like several other people who have commented am an accomplished player and have many amps including top end tube amps which of course sound better than this little guy. But . . this puppy really puts out, and yes you could do a small gig with it, or even a big gig if you miked it! I actually have two of these because they are such great value, have one down in Mexico when I go there to chill. And yeah it's very lite, which is a bonus when you get older and just want to grab some gear and go jam. One other comment . . I also have the Fender Champion 100 model which is also a nice amp, but for some reason I believe the Champion 40 sounds a bit better. Made in China of course but so far I have had no issues with amp of these Champion Amps.

I really like this amp a lot for several reasons. The price is very good. It has very good modelling and can go from crisp and clean to screaming dirt and it is very light to carry. I have even used this at smaller live gigs and it has held its own. Btw i am no novice, I have 7 amps mostly tube or hybrid this is the only solid state amp i am keeping. The only change i made is that I replaced the stock speaker with a Cannabis Rex and it gave me a lot more bottom end and overall smoother sound. The stock speaker was a bit ice picky. I highly recommend swapping the speaker out. I tried out a number of amps in this price range for a friend of mine then we both ended up buying one! That should tell you something.

I bought this amp a year ago. Great amp samples, lots of built in effects, get the Fender footswitch to make full use, under $30. Great value, enough power for small gigs.

Good basic amp with most of the features of the Super Champ X2 at half the price. You don't get the tube tone or Fender Fuse features but it has more than enough flexibility to get the tone you want. Some online reading has shown that swapping out the speaker for something better is best done with care or not at all.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
