Complete Vocal Recording Solution

The NT1-A is an industry standard large-diaphragm condenser microphone. Delivering warmth and clarity, extended dynamic range, high SPL capability, and incredibly low self-noise, it's a true studio workhorse, perfect for recording everything from vocals to acoustic guitar to drums.

The mic features a 1" diaphragm with a gold-plated membrane, which provides a wide frequency response and exceptional signal-to-noise ratio. The cardioid polar pattern provides excellent off-axis rejection, minimising noise caused by room ambience, instruments, monitors, headphones, etc. The balanced, transformer-less output circuitry results in quiet, low-noise signal reproduction at high output levels. The NT1-A is powered via 48V phantom power and has a standard XLR connector.

The bundled accessory package includes a studio-grade shock mount with an integrated pop filter and a 20' premium cable. There is also a downloadable instructional video packed with tips and techniques to help you get the most out of your NT1-A.

I use much less gain with this mic to achieve reasonable dbs without cranking level. Use it for voice recording and very happy with the mic qualiy and overall result. Noise floor is really low with this mic. Great shock mount, cable and outstanding double layer pop filter included.

Crystal clear and incredibly responsive. I have put it through every test i can think up, and have not found any reason not to give it 5 stars all around. All the goodies included in the box elevate this package to another level. I am absolutely floored that i have a microphone of this quality in my own studio, and that it was so cost effective.

Up until recently we were using a Shure SM58 for our vocalist and nothing seemed to come out the way we wanted it to. Now that we have the Rode NT1-A, we can hear all the nuances of our female vocalist, a major improvement, clean and clear sounding. Night to day.

Wow, like night and day. We were trying different mics and just could not capture the beautiful tones of our vocalist. We put in the NT1-A, and now she rings clear as a bell. Before some of the vocals were hard to understand, now all the vocals come through very clear. If you are looking for an affordable mic to capture the all the tones of a vocalist, this mic delivers.

It's a great value microphone, and it sounds good. Don't listen to the reviews saying "It sounds good as the TLM 103", I own both and the difference is clear to me. It's kind of like listening to a 192kbps mp3 ( The Rode ), compared to a lossless wav ( The 103 ). It's a subtle difference the average person won't notice or care.

I upgraded from the Shure SM58, and wow. The clarity is superb. I've had great success recording my (bass male) vocals and a female contralto. Highly recommended.

honestly, rode does it right. for the price, the NT1A is a great mic. though the clarity isn't as stunning at mics $1000+, it has a nice feel to it and will surprise you. highly recommended for anyone wanting a good large condenser that doesn't break the bank.

I had this mic last year but got stolen. So bought another one this year.. I love this mic.. I tested it to a $2000 mic that my friend has and honestly he was blown away it sound almost better than the $1500 neumann mic. before this I owned the At4040 and I prefer this than that. Simply its feauture is better and does pick up much background noise. Trust me this is worth it.. Im not a Rode fanboy..

I set up a perfect control with a Neumann TLM 103 and the Rode NT1A for vocals. The two mics were stacked so I could record my vocal once but each mic was recorded to its own separate track. I ran phantom power(48volts) to both mics, added no effects or EQ, no mic preamps(except for the ones in my TASCAM DP-32 recorder.) My results found absolutely NO difference between the two mics. I let several people try and see if they could hear any difference, they also could not. The Neumann retails for $1250 the Rode is $289. Try it for yourself. Thank you, Jim Wallace

I've had this mic for almost a year now. I'm of the opinion that its one of the best values price wise anything south of the AT 40 series. Sounds great on every source I've tried it on.

So far I came home plugged it in , and instantly could hear a huge quality difference from my previous mic. That is even without putting on anything to the vocal track in the DAW. So far so good.

Acclaimed as one of the quietest condenser mics, at least in it's price range. Good construct, smooth sound, gentle presence without harsh upper frequency artifacts, and accompanied with solid shock mount, xlr cable of generous length, soft pouch for storage, and instructional dvd are all among my list of pros. The only con I can think of that stands out is that the mic with shock mount is really top heavy, and I've already gone through 2 mic stands trying to tighten the boom wing-nut so that the mic doesn't flop over... but maybe that should be listed as a con for the mic stand I was using?

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
