The VOX AC15 is the amp that started it all. Boasting both a Normal and Top Boost channel, the AC15 Custom is an all-tube, EL84 driven workhorse that delivers 15 watts of authentic British tone into your choice of a genuine Celestion Greenback or Alnico Blue speaker. The AC15 Custom also offers footswitchable spring reverb and classic VOX tremolo to enhance the already impressive sound. Adored by the biggest names in music for nearly 60 years, the VOX AC15 Custom carries on the tradition that began in 1958 and offers guitarists the unmistakable sound of VOX, with all the refinements of a modern amplifier.

An Evolution in Tone
VOX Custom Series amps offer two channels: Normal and Top-Boost. Each channel is equipped with its own Volume control and the Top Boost channel offers highly interactive Treble and Bass tone controls. This powerful channel pairing provides an abundance of tone-crafting control, letting you dial in a classic sound that is all your own.

Both channels rely on the Tone Cut and Volume controls in the Master section. The Tone Cut control operates in the power stage rather than the preamp stage, allowing an additional degree of tone-shaping. The Master Volume control works in conjunction with the individual volumes of each channel to create just the right degree of gain-staging. By balancing the individual and Master volumes, the Custom Series can deliver everything from a clean VOX "chimey" sound to a powerful, overdriven tone.

Sound in Motion
You can sweeten the sound of your Custom Series amplifier using the VOX Classic Tremolo effect. Both the speed and the depth are adjustable, allowing you to generate just the sound you want. A warm Spring Reverb is also included on all Custom Series amps, adding spaciousness to the sound. All Custom Series amps can use the VOX VFS2 footswitch, allowing you to turn the Reverb and Tremolo effects on and off as you continue to play.

Power Sharing
The AC15C1 combo makes use of 3 x 12AX7 preamp tubes and uses a pair of EL84 tubes to drive a single, 12" Celestion G12M Greenback. All models in the Custom Series offer a switchable 8/16 ohm output jack for powering an external speaker cabinet when you need to speak with a little more authority; using this jack will mute the internal speakers. Additionally, a 2nd extension speaker jack allows you to run an extra 16 ohm cabinet along with the internal speakers for a fuller sound.

I got a deal on this amp used at my local L&M. It looked brand new and came with a custom made in Canada cover. It's all you really need for most local gigs and has a lot of gain options with a normal and a top boost input. With an inexpensive A-B footswitch you can switch inputs mid-song. If you want the upgraded model with the Celestion Blue speaker it is actually cheaper to purchase this model with the Greenback and upgrade it yourself and you will still have the Greenback to use or re-sell.

When I bought my Strat I wanted an amp to “match” it. Naturally a Fender amp came to mind. Being told the tube amps would be to loud I went with the Tone Master SS type. A great amp for clean tones. It was supposed to break up like a tube amp if turned up but I found the volume needed to do that was still loud for my home use. After getting a Marshall DLS20 head and cab for my Les Pauls I really wanted a tube amp for my Strat. Enter the Vox AC15C1. Wow. Just WOW. I traded the Tone Master in for it right away. Great natural hair from this amp and it’s EL84’s. This amp can sound fantastic even at a volume I can talk over, which is important to me. And it can definitely get loud, no shortage there. The reverb is nicer than the Fender’s was too. A more natural decay to it. Nice tremolo. All in all I am extremely happy with the Vox and so glad I bought it. It suits my Strat just the way my Marshall suits my Les Pauls. The loss of a half point is for the lack of a FX loop. A minor issue as a overdrive and chorus in the front work very well. I only wish I had found this amp a year ago.

This is what I have been looking for. This amp sounds so great with or without pedals. You don't even need pedals at all. But when you do run some pedals in, wow... I prefer putting my pedals into the front of the amp so the "no fx loop" isn't a problem for me. I am going into the front with an overdrive and two reverbs and it sounds unreal... Delay and reverb is so, so good through this. It's heavy, but not like an AC30. Super loud and awesome sounding. Wow. After playing it for 30 seconds you can see why Vox has been around for over 60 years. I don't care where they make these. As long as the people putting them together have the right parts and take their time lol This is best guitar related thing I have ever bought. It'll be time for another down the road. Just buy one :)

Rented one of these for a month just to see what the Vox tone is. I have been a Marshall and Fender person for 40 years but have had a Peavey 5150. So I know Fender "clean" or "grit", Marshall "grind" and 5150's high gain. Thought I had all the flavors so I thought I would try it. I knew users of Vox were Brian May, The Edge of U2, Bryan Adams, Tom Petty and the Beatles among others. It took a few hours to get a tone I liked. When having a master volume in any amp I tend to crank that one then adjust any pregain volumes like I do on other amps. NOT this one. Its gets LOUD real quick. With the master on full, either volume for either channel with the slightest nudge will tear your head off. I set the master at half then and raised the volumes accordingly and it worked better that way. The initial problem I had with either channel is the distortion was a little thin with lack of bass so rather than shutting off the pregain volume on a channel I am not using, I found there is a bleed through so adjust the volume on the channel you are NOT using and the amp seemed to fill up with more deep bass that I found was lacking when using one channel only. Got that tip from some Youtube guy. The spring reverb and tremolo are fantastic. Very deep but I use only moderate levels with either control turned to 9 or 10 o'clock. Its a shame they don't include the footswitch to work the two effects. Although the reverb can be left on all the time, it would be nice to control the tremolo as thats not something you would have on all the time. I do have a Voodoo Lab Tremolo pedal but its not as warm sounding. Whats the best channel? Normal or Top Boost? Normal is bassier with less distortion. Top Boost is thinner, more distorted. Overall the amp is tricky to adjust to get a little dirt but to not be spanky clean yet have enough bass otherwise it falls flat and not very dynamic. Beware the tone cut, bass and treble knobs, They don't work what you think. The tone cut removes harsh high end so when its off its very trebly. I keep it at 5 or 6. If its turned right up it dulls the top end. On the Top Boost, the bass is not very responsive unless you have the treble turned down past halfway. The treble turned right up sucks the bass away. These two knobs are very reactive to each other. My settings(and I am still tweaking a little) is the Top Boost channel with bass at full, treble at 1,vol at 2. Master Vol is at about 5, Tone Cut at 6,Reverb at 3. With an Ibanez Tube Screamer set at just about full with the tone set low it sounds good but thin without bass. Now for the Youtube tip...turn the Normal vol up to 7 and the bass fills in brilliantly. behind the Top Boost channel. Turn off the Tube Screamer and you get a clean tone. Turn the distortion low on the tube screamer to clean up the dirt for Beatles or Tom Petty stuff. I use my VL pedal for Tremolo but would get the footswitch to work the Vox Trem built in and would set intensity at 4 and speed at 5. I may try a Vox AC10 as its lighter and lower power. Its the Top Boost only with digital reverb otherwise the AC15 is keeper.

I'm currently using this amp with a Telecaster. With fresh strings! The sound of these two instruments together is astounding, and I haven't really played guitar for a few years and can only describe my current skill level as "beginner". Very happy with the VOX. The only thing I wish it included is a headphone jack, but i solved this with a Fender mini-amp.

I've had this amp for about 18 months now, and only have good things to say. Having previously owned Marshall and Fender combos, this AC15 finally nails the tones I was looking for. I Janm occasionally with friends, but mainly play at home. This amp is loud enough to gig with and can also be used enjoyably at practice volumes. I play mainly classic rock (late 60's to Mid-seventies stuff and I am able to coax the desired tones out of this thing, whether it's the Beatles, Zeppelin, or Tom Petty. A great amp. You'll love it.

Had this for about a week now, and I’m in love, unbelievable volume control for at home use and gets paint peeling loud if required I don’t know if it’s just mine but it’s so quiet as well! Last tube amp I had was peavey valve king and that one needed a noise gate just to sit beside it. I was torn between this and the ac30 for the headroom but I was worried the volume would be harder to play with. I promise you, your gonna love it

Vox has the best clean tone out there, especially through a strat. Very good overdrive when you push it and takes pedals really well, normal channel does better with pedals. Don’t worry about the lack of an effects loop, it doesn’t need it to make pedals sound awesome. More volume than you’ll ever need with just 15 watts. If you set your bass and treble on the top boost both to around 2 o clock and max out the volume you get a classic lead tone. I also don’t need a noise gate when at high gain, feedback stays quiet. It’s been around for decades for a reason.

Great tone -- it can be bright, bluesy, beefy, chimey and/or overdriven without requiring pedals. Sounds great with single coil pickups and humbuckers. This AC15 compliments my guitar collection a bit better than my previous Fender Blues Jr. in that I can dial in some excellent tone with each and every axe. It has decent built-in reverb, excellent tremolo, a masterful tone cut and two distinct channels, which multiplies the tonal options. And now with a master volume, I'm finally getting lush tube amp tone without waking the neighbours. Granted, it's bigger and heavier than my ol' Blues Jr., but I'll take it! The plusses from a bigger cabinet outweigh the negatives (pun intended). If this amp was lost or stolen, I would definitely replace it with the exact same model. My only wish is that the price tag was $150-200 cheaper in Canada. If the AC15C1 was priced closer to the Blues Jr., Vox would probably sell twice as many.

Got this amp a week ago and am really loving it. The normal channel has great cleans. No EQs on the clean channel (other than the tone cut) but honestly none are needed. Takes pedals extremely well. All my OD pedals sound fantastic through the normal channel. Tip: when playing through this channel, turn all the knobs on the Bright channel to zero (the channels do interact). The bright channel is fantastic for edge of breakup tone or full-on overdrive. Just turn up the channel volume to taste. Really nice sounding overdrive. This channel has a bass and treble EQ which gives lots of tone options. The reverb is good but not great. Tremolo is very nice but I haven't used it much. There is no effects loop, but my delay pedals sound very nice through this amp. Love that I can play the amp quiet at bedroom levels or crank it up and the windows shake. Very versatile. Easy enough to lug around but its 50lbs so isn't light. I have several amps and I'm often selling and trading gear but this amp is definitely a keeper!

Bought Vox AC15C1, 18 months ago, for home use and garage jamming with friends. It's been great! Tremolo, reverb, master and channel volumes, boost channel, high-mid-low tone controls, with my AM Strat, I can get English invasion, country twang, dirty blues, edgy rock, warm and clean jazz. Bought a distortion pedal to venture into metal tones, and delay and chorus pedals to play in the ethereal zone. Too much fun! The 15W is plenty (I think the 12" speaker helps). I can fill a double garage with a chord, even with a loud drummer. It replaced my Fender Mustang II, which to my ear, can't replace a tube amp.

Good amp. Even thought controls are simple, they are very sensitive, little adjustments go a long way especially when trying to dial in a home friendly sound (which you can do). Personally have owned this amp for almost 4 yrs. Played an SG, Strat and Les Pauls through this amp. I will say I found the SG didn't suit it but the others are great. I will also say at times I have had a love hate thing with this amp because it can be difficult to get certain tones out of it. Overall if your playing classic rock blues etc it will be great, I also find 90's music is good as well. As a note, for me small adjustments and keeping the channel volume high (noon) and master at 8 - 9 on the clock does it for home use. This usually gets me a clean-ish sound that still has a bit of dirt. Playing in a band both volumes at 12 and you have a tone monster. Pedals work good with Normal channel IMO. Top boost is best on its own IMO. Lastly, as others have said. If your going for a perfectly clean sound this is not the amp. A clean fender or something similar may be better suited. This amp does clean but you will find it gets dirty fast, best sound is edge of break up on this IMO. Ohh and in my ownership of this i have not changed anything..yet.. stock tubes and everything still in amp. Never needed to be serviced either. Used multiple times a week.

I bought this amp a year ago (recently started playing guitar again). It was fine for a starter amp; I traded it in and chose a Fender 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb that is so clearly superior to the Vox AC15C1 that there really is no comparing the two. The Vox AC15C1 is in my opinion, overrated; I tried it for a full year year and was not impressed. After Fender, won't buy Vox again. Nothing against this Vox, just nothing like the Fender...

Usually the more the knobs, the more the tweaking and the longer it takes to find a usable tone. Not with this Vox. What also surprised me was the weight. Combos are supposed to be portable but not back breaking like its famous cousin the AC30, or Fender Twin Reverb or Roland Jazz Chorus JC120. I had those larger combos and you need wheels. What was also surprising was the ease to get a good tone. There is no channel switching,so one must chose between the normal or top boost channel. With just slight gain in either one,I get the "chiminess" they talk about. The normal channel has a bit more bass but beware the tone cut works the opposite to what you think. Turn it off and its quite trebly. The top boost has a bit more tonal control with treble and bass but I actually preferred the normal channel. The built in foot switchable effects, the reverb and tremolo are lush and fantastic. If you want an amp that excels at one particular tone, this is it. Very pedal friendly too with an overdrive and delay.

This amp is a great deal if you're looking for a great little tube amp capable of handling small to medium sized gigs with a p.a, at home or studio recording and general jamming etc. Most people will think that a Vox is only good for the Brit invasion and Beatles type of music, but this thing is incredibly versatile. With the tweaking of the knobs in the top boost chanel input, you can get anything from rockin' blues, to full out rock n' roll, and if you dial in a cleaner sound, you can get a great twangy clean sound (with a bit of 'dirt' on top) for early 50's rock n roll and rockabilly type tones as well. It's not too heavy, not too loud, you can get it to break up at lower volumes if you crank the channel volume and keep the master volume low, or you can get great clean sounds, even surf like reverb, and classic tremolo sounds, and you don't necessarily need the foot switch either, it only turns the rev/trem on and off anyhow, so, anyone who is used to tweaking the amp in the middle of a song on stage will have no problems with adjusting this amp easily by reaching back and turning a knob or two. The dials are laid out well and easy to figure out after a little messing around with the amp when you get it home, and after you're used to what the knobs do, it's a brilliant little tone monster to have. For the price, you really can't go wrong with this amp, especially for the roots rock music type players, those looking for clean yet dirty, twangy and clean to screaming loud solos, this amp does it all, and for under $700. Try one out, even if you're typically a Fender or Marshall guy usually, this amp just might surprise and impress you.

I bought the amp a few years back, and thought I made a mistake. After fidgeting and learning how to use this amp I couldn't believe the tones you can get with this. I play a 92 strat with LIndy Fralin hot for blues and a 97 Les Paul with the Custom PAF pick-ups. Both are awesome if you looking for the the British invasion...to hard rock and overdrive blues. Tough to get a really clean sound out of it, but if you want that add a Fender Deluxe Reverb to your Aresnal. If I had to choose one, I would go with the Vox.....Solid Closed Back - heavy solid construction....and almost as important as the sound, .....It's VOX....and it looks really cool to boot.

I was in the market for a classic tube amp, under $1000. I have owned the ac15 for about a month and have played it everyday. I couldn't be happier with the versatility and variety of tones this amp produces. I think it may be comparable, cheaper alternative to the more expensive Fender Deluxe...but I don't have enough experience to make that statement definitively. If you're a fan of: Johnny Marr(the smiths); John Squire(stone roses), The Edge, Brian May, Duffy(the Cult), Jimmy Page etc. you'll love this amp. Unless you gig at very big venues, you do not need the Ac30...the 15 is loud enough!! The only downsides I've experienced: -no foot switch to change from Normal to Top boost channel -difficult to achieve an overdrive tone at lower volumes...I recommend the Boss Blues Driver or Super Overdrive pedal...if you want an overdrive at lower volumes.

I gig in all venues around winnipeg and I play loud! the AC15 is perfect cause I can crank the power stage almost half way (still a little too loud) but I can now get some good break up. This amp is very durable and sounds amazing. I believe its the best amp you can get for the price.

Just bought this today. I originally went in for a Marshall but they were out and then I stumbled upon this. Fantastic sound with stock tubes, a little heavy but solid. Warm clean tones and a crunchy distortion. Also the fact you can hook up a cab to it is a great feature! Pedals are a good idea if you want a metal sound or heavy rock but he amp does the job just fine. Very loud. Just overall a fantastic amp and a great value. It is a 15W but its perfect for gigging, looks great too!

I have had this for about 6 months and love it. There is a lot of versatility with tone, the tremolo is thick and rich, and the reverb is killer. It basically does what it is supposed to. I have used this many times for small gigs and is way loud enough even without a PA. My only issue is that it is very heavy for a 15 watt amp. I have an old ampeg with about 15 watts as well and it is about the quarter of the weight of this Vox. However, the sound quality, flexability and tonal quality far outweigh this issue. I have changed out the stock tubes for some better ones and it did improve the overall responsivness and tone. Also intend to change out the speaker but at this price it is a great amp. I am a blues player it covers all my needs with no trouble.

Great amp for the price. It does exactly what it is supposed to do. Has that Classic Vox sound. This is not as good as the hand wired versions but for alf the price the difference in tone is too small to warrant the difference in price

Great Amp, the tone is just un real when ya crank it! Could use a foot switch for the price.... but when you get it home ya don't care after the first time you plug it in.

great little amp, good rock and country tones. Don't expect to play metal with this without a pedal. Wish it came standard with a pedal for on/off reverb&tremolo.

I bought this amp about a year and a half ago and use it on stage in combination with a 15W gibson gold tone amp. The Vox is a perfect compliment to the Gibson. I only use the clean channel and rely on my pedals for everything else. The clean channel gives a very warm classic sound. I tried a number of other 15W amps before I bought this and this had the warmest sound of them all.

I've had m AC15 for about two months now, and this thing is unreal. I love the tones I can get from it, very user friendly and a great value. I wish it came with an amp cover and a footswitch.

This amp is great, has killer tone and is very versatile for use in most situations. One thing I don't like about this, is having to pay for the not-included foot switch for the tremolo and reverb. Otherwise, this amp is more than poweful enough for my gigging needs

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
