It took me a while to switch over from amps, but now that i did, wow. This thing rocks. Through PA, it sounds like a well miked cab. Your sound man and your singers will thank you. I use it with a powered cab for monitoring.

This toy has a massive learning curve. There is so much packed into this unit it will blow your mind. Don’t walk into this with out a friend or YouTube.
Aside from that. Amazing. My band uses these and we send our stereo mix to front of house and to our live cabs on stage for an absolutely crushing metal tone. I use mine with an orange pedal baby 100 power amp to power my cab to use my helix as a pre amp.
So good. 3 of my favourite amp models I am using are the Revv Gen Purple, Mesa duel rec & PV invective.
These amps sound so close to their real life counterpart.
My guitar player has a real Revv Gen Purple. We set them both up on an A/B path. Could hardly tell any difference with the same EQ. Line 6 really nailed this product. Especially since releasing the newest update.
Worth the money. But can be overwhelming. But worth it at the same time.

Only feature missing is a type of Profiling option for capturing the sound of real rigs. Even the Mooer GE stuff has a capture feature. Now onto the real review Something you should know before you buy that I didn’t. Going to paint this in broad strokes so it’s not too long. SHARC DSP is great, UAD uses it as well but they are very limited in compared to something like a laptop. A UAD Neve Preamp takes up 60% of a single SHARC chip and that’s just for a preamp (30% of a duo core Apollo) Running full amp, cab & effects chains on these chips work fine but only because of the limitations set by the developers for how much processing power they have available. If you’re planning on using this for gigs and home use, you’ll love it. Super well made, sounds good and easy to use after you get to know it. If you plan on recording with this or even gigging and you already own a Decent Laptop and Interface, you should consider other options. A $300 plugin can out perform a helix. These plugins are designed with using your computers full power in mind. If you were to put some of these plugin amp sims like TH-U, Neural DSP amps or Amplitube 4 onto a SHARC DSP it would probably take up a full Chips DSP just to run a single amp because of how powerful these plugins really are. I’ve owned my Helix LT for about 6 months and I am keeping it, BUT to get the most out of it I really HAD to buy some OwnHammer Impulse Responses. They market the Helix as this expert modelling, top of the line sound, a step above the rest type of unit when it’s really designed for getting good tones in a box that’s portable for gigging purposes. Something like a Kemper is much better suited for real amp tones and high quality recordings. If I would have known this in advance, already owning a MacBook Pro and Apollo Twin X, I would have bought Overloud TH-U and just run that at a gig because you can run 32 sample buffer size in a Standalone Application and have 1-2ms latency (which is basically 0 latency as far as humans can tell) TH-U also comes with “Rig Player” which is basically a kemper in your laptop. It can measure the non linear gain stage and dynamic response of entire rigs like the amp, cabinet, mics etc. Basically exactly what kemper is doing. I’ve tried it myself and it’s unbelievably good and there’s tons of pre made rig player libraries available for like $50 and you get a ton of real rigs of vintage and modern gear. If you want everything in one box at your feet that you can bring around to any venue and have good tones. The Helix will definitely work for you. It’s the top dog in that scenario. But I highly suggest the OwnHammer (r)Evolution Impulse Response bundle to get the most out of it. They honestly improved my sound by about 20%. If you want to use it for home studio or pro level recording purposes. Consider raising your budget for a Kemper or buy a MIDI expression pedal and foot controller and look at some plugins because they are absolutely killer. Especially TH-U or the Neural DSP stuff. It can be just as good or better than a Helix.

There is a crazy amount of customization involved here and should prove useful for just about any genre. If you know a thing or two about your frequencies/eq you can really dial in a perfect tone between eq controls, noise gates, distortion pedals etc all inside. The presets are solid and easily adjustable to your guitar/cab setup too if you dont want to dive into the abyss. Outside of the sounds, you can use the Helix as a pedal board, amp switcher, and run other pedals into the fx loop etc. Honestly, the best all round purchase I've made in a decade.

I have had this now for about six months or so. I have spent a lot of time learning how to set it up and still don't know everything. Unless you know a lot about different amps and effects expect to do a lot of learning. I was definitely disappointed the first few months, and even now I still struggle to get certain sounds that I like. There is a lot of information out there to help though, and a lot of presets available through the line six forums. Even with that help you will still need to tweak presets as they generally don't sound that great as they are. You need to decide what you are going to use for speakers and what sounds best and as far as I know, studio monitors are the best for home use. Overall the quality is quite good and the Helix Edit software makes life easier when building presets. The preamp blocks are not that good in my opinion. There are better cabinets out there than the stock cabinets and some are free.I also think it's hard to get a good clean over driven sound but maybe that's me...but for the most part it delivers. I would consider other products both software and hardware out there that compete in the same space but I think this is easy to use compared to the Fractal unit so I have read.

I would have to say this is one of the coolest pedals I've ever had the opportunity to play. If you're worried about not getting that tube tone or that string or the volume up and down control through this Helix LT you're mistaken it does it all just like a tube amp and your pedalboard the only other thing that you'll do after you buy it is sell all your tube amps in your pedals the thing is absolutely awesome.

Being a tube guy for many years I've owned Mesa boogies/Peaveys/Engl and Orange amps and they were all great but something is to be said about how versatile and how crisp this thing sounds. Does it sound like a real tube amp?Sorta Kinda.... Does it sound really really good? Yes it does. Consistent tone through my studio monitors or through big PA and is extremely Easy to use with so many onboard effects to use its actually kind of overwhelming. The ease of use(awesome interface), good selection of amps/effects, plug in options and the ability to load custom IRs easily makes this In my opinion the best all around modeler out there not to mention how easy this makes home recording! All I can say is this is the best purchase of musical gear I think I have ever made in my life. Line 6 you've turned this Spider hater into a Helix Fan Boy and i'm so happy with my helix and don't see myself buying another Amp any time soon. For reference I play 7 String Prog metal and the Archtype Model is fire.

So I've only owned it for a full day now but all I can say is wow. I own a Pod HD Pro and a Firehawk and the Helix is lightyears ahead if either one of those. The clarity and touch response is amazing. If you were like me, wondering if the sound quality is that much better than the Firehawk? It definitely is!

I have owned an HD400 and HD500x. Both were OK but I found it difficult to get a decent tone out of them without TONS of tweaking. Then setting consistant output volumes between tones was another issue. Welcome Helix... Super easy to get a GREAT tone out of and a pleasure to work with. I have it paired with a James Tyler Variax and a Line 6 full range PA speaker. The rest of the guys in the band mentioned how great the tones were day one. Acoustic models now sound like they should, etc... Very Impressed! Glad I took the plunge!

I have only been trying to learn to play some guitar for three years for my own amusement. I like ACDC/Joan Jett rock kind of distortion, buzz and sustain and bought several pedals and amps looking for it and never came close to what I was looking for!!! This thing sounds amazing to me and I have so far only plugged it into my inexpensive Mustang 2 amp. It has all kinds of clean and distorted sounds in it and you can make your own too. Dan at L&Q in Regina put me into this and everything else I have - excellent to deal with!!! Worth checking it out!!!

The Helix is excellent in terms of ease of use and the ability to draw upon pretty much all the amps, cabs, and effects you could want. One of the best parts about Helix is the active and supportive community. Be sure to join the Line 6 Helix user group on FB. If making your own patches isn't your thing or you are just starting out, there are lots of great pre-made ones on Line 6 CustomTone to choose from. The only reason I give this one a 3.5 for quality is that there is a noticeable physical build quality difference between the LT and Floor (full) version.

I bought my self one. when I plugged and played right out of the box, I was stunned. I always loved the sound of valve amps and analogue pedals and helix has got the same sound and feel. I am very satisfied with my purchase. The amp models sound so real and dynamic. I couldn't believe myself. Helix LT could do great live, home or studio. I tell ya, you wont be disappointed.

I was on the fence for a while on this one. I had just purchased an EVH 5150 50w head (great amp btw) and then all of a sudden out of nowhere, L6 releases the LT. I always wanted the Helix, but not being a gigging musician, couldn't justify the cost for the full model. After a couple months, reading rave reviews and watching a ton of youtube reviews, I decided to sell off my rig and just go with the helix. Am I ever happy I did. This is perfect for me. It's got any effect I could ever need, and the sounds you can get out of this thing with minimal tweaking is amazing. Not only that, but it keeps getting better. L6 is commited to this product and the updates are regular and new models keep getting added and current ones tweaked to sound even better. You really can't go wrong with this product.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
