Alexandra Berg is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who calls Victoria home. She’s earned her Diploma in Music Performance on Contemporary Vocals from Camosun College and the VCM, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Composition from Humber College in Toronto. She loves exploring a variety of vocal genres with her students like jazz, R&B, folk, musical theater and pop.

Jade Wedel started her music career 18 years ago in Calgary. Currently, she is a fifth-year performance student at the University of Victoria under the mentorship of Ann Elliott-Goldschmid. Jade has been teaching group lessons to string players with the Sooke Harmony Project. She believes in the power and beauty of music and strives to impart a love of music to her students. Jade tailors’ lessons to students individual learning styles and goals. She believes in striving to make music fun.

Jonathan began playing piano at age 5. In his 38 years of playing and 10 years of teaching and touring, he has studied piano performance at the University of Regina and abroad in France with Henri Barda (Paris Conservatory) and in Germany with Reggie Moore (Hans Eisler Conservatory, Berlin). Jonathan has performed with the Regina Symphony Orchestra and international stars Lew Soloff, Sonny Rhodes and Bernard Purdie to name a few. His playing has been featured on the videogame soundtrack "Cuphead" which made number one on the US Billboard Jazz charts. Jonathan teaches all genres of music and is looking forward to inspiring his students and giving them the tools to find their unique creative expression.

Jordan McDonald started his musical career at a very young age and has been investing his life into music for the past 11 years. With a wide variety of musical experiences and instruments under his belt, Jordan loves to apply his vast knowledge to his lessons, exploring countless genres and drumming styles. His experience with Drums, Piano, Singing, Music Theory, and Music History allows Jordan to share anecdotes and experiences through the many worlds of music. Jordan believes in focusing on the students’ interests, while also building a deep understanding of the drumming rudiments and fundamentals.

Oriana has her grade 10 piano Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) and brings her extensive background in music instruction and an innate ability to connect with students. She taught at Long & McQuade in Abbotsford for the last three years and has recently moved back to Vancouver Island. Oriana is acutely aware of her students’ unique personalities and their individual needs, and will develop a finely tuned plan to enrich and educate so that students can reach their highest potential.

Patrick Walters is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music and has been teaching since 2003. He specializes in rock, blues, jazz, and acoustic styles. Guitar Player magazine has called his music "elegantly beautiful". Patrick has always had a great love of music which has always fueled his guitar playing and composition. He understands that everyone learns in their own way and at their own pace and when a student finds the right musical path, learning becomes a joy.

STEVE SUTTON, (B.A., Dip. Mus.) is a Vancouver Island based, Professional Bassist and Guitar Teacher who has performed locally, in Vancouver and in California. Steve was born and raised in Nanaimo and began his musical journey in the School District 68 music program playing the trombone and the classical guitar. Later, Steve attended Malaspina University College's Music Program, (now Vancouver Island University), focusing on bass guitar and double bass. He graduated in 2002.

During the summer of 2003 he attended the Victoria Conservatory summer jazz workshop where he studied with jazz greats Neil Swainson, Misha Piatogorsky and Don Thompson. In September 2010 he attended a Ukulele workshop in Sonoma California, training with Hawaiian Ukulele Master Kimo Hussey. Steve co-produced the Nanaimo Aloha Ukulele Festival from 2011 through 2015 and more recently he has been a regular performer and clinician at the Victoria Ukulele Festival. He plays regularly with his wife, Anna Lyman at Brentwood Bay Resort and Spa; they are also regular contributors at Victoria International Airport during the Christmas Season.

"The Drummer's Blueprint" is a masterclass designed to help students take their first steps toward becoming drummers. Led by Long and McQuade drum teacher Jordan McDonald, who possesses over a decade of music experience, this class aims to share his knowledge and love for music. With a focus on Rock drumming, it serves as the perfect starting point for any aspiring drummer. The course covers various aspects, including understanding the different parts of a drum kit, mastering stick grip techniques, exploring rudiments, learning basic beats, and much more.

This is a one time class. Students are required to bring their own drumsticks to this session.
