Playing the Recorder with Kimberly North

All playing levels welcome. Please bring your own recorder and a beginner knowledge of notes and fingerings is required. Topics covered include: a brief history of the recorder, an overview of the instrument and sizes, technique fundamentals such as posture and fingerings, group playing (1-2 pieces together), and ensemble playing (1-2 pieces). There will also be a question and answer period at the end!

Beginner Ukulele with Peter Davison

The name ukulele means “the gift that came here”. So we invite you to “come here” for the “gift” of instruction on this traditional Hawaiian instrument. This clinic will cover the types of ukuleles available, basic techniques, care and maintenance, and a performance by Peter Davison. Peter is currently teaching at the Long & McQuade Lesson Centre and has a Bachelor of Arts with Music from St. Francis Xavier University. He has been teaching music since 1996, has played drums, bass, and guitar in a variety of local bands, and won the 2010 Canadian Boss Loop Station championship. Bring your own ukulele if you have one!

Explore the art of songwriting from inspiration to final production with Berklee College of Music Arranging and Composition Certificate holder Pat Riley. Topics to be discussed include benefits of music theory, trends in song structure and radio format, preparing a song for studio recording, the “biz”, lyrics, and elements of a “hit” song.

This clinic is perfect for aspiring young producers looking for their first introduction to the world of electronic music-making.

Fredericton’s own “legend of looping” Stephen Lewis will be here to show you how looping can enhance your playing ability and transform your musical creativity. Stephen is a live looping instructor in the public school system and has toured locally and internationally performing at various festivals including Burning Man, The Boomtown Fair (UK), the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, and many more.
