Description

The Epiphone EJ160E John Lennon is a unique instrument with the foundation of a great advanced jumbo mahogany-body, solid spruce-top acoustic guitar. It has all the warm, punchy tone that is the hallmark of that type of acoustic guitar design. But this guitar doesnt stop there. The EJ-160E also provides a mini humbucking pickup, located just off the neck, above the soundhole, which delivers a tremendous, fat tone through your amp. Tone and volume controls are provided, as is chrome hardware.

Since 1873, Epiphone instruments have been proudly played and endorsed by professional artists. And while every Epiphone is a compilation of over 125 years of experience working directly with musicians, only a few embody a single artists individual creativity and spirit. The Epiphone Signature Collection guitars are as legendary and as individual as the artists themselves.

Although the Epi 160-E doesn't have the tonal nuances of the original Gibson,it is an extremely well made guitar with a very clean tonal range and great projection. The playability is superb and the overall quality is way beyond that of many others in its price range. When I play my Epi 160-E through my Vox AC-15 the resulting tone is so true to the original that I get goosebumps.I first tried I Feel Fine because John played his 160-E on that recording and I was amazed by the likeness to the Gibson counterpart's tone. All in all this is a great guitar, even if it didn't have the Lennon connection.

Great looking, great feel, great sound. Don't let the previous review scare you away, this sounds no different from "ordinary acoustics." The previous poster is comparing a $600 guitar to a $2,600 guitar. This guitar of mine hasn't been put down for more than a day at a time since I bought it 3 years ago.

Epiphone EJ160E vs Gibson J160E

The EJ160E is not even a close comparison to the J160E except for the lookalike tuner knobs, lookalike pickup, volume/tone control knob placement and lookalike fingerboard inlays. The body shape, sound, saddle and colour are completely different. However, with the Gibson electric string set SEG 900ML (11-52) the guitar sounds best (I think). Good bottom end and nice highs. I have tried many sets, and this set really works. The guitar is pretty and has vibe and to a non conniseur of guitars it looks like the J160E, I own the "Real" J160E therefore I can honestly compare. Still a very cool guitar and with a few mods like, better tuners (Grovers look the same) Graph Tech compensated saddle and Graph Tech pins, this guitar sounds great! Worth the money, but remember, it does not sound like an ordinary acoustic, it is very midrange and not for all styles. I am happy with my purchase for what I wanted.
