LPJ
As part of the 2013 Year of Les Paul celebrations, Gibson USA brings you a new Les Paul model thats available at an entry-level price to suit any budget. The LPJ offers all the ingredients that made the most desirable Les Paul Standards legendary classic tonewoods, innovative hardware, two genuine humbucking pickups, and of course Gibsons acclaimed build quality and playability all wrapped up in a stripped-down, no-nonsense package that makes this guitar a flat-out performer. Simpler esthetics and a cool worn-look finish technique add up to big savings for the player, and the LPJ still looks great in your choice of Cherry, Chocolate, Hand-Rubbed Vintage Burst, Hand-Rubbed Transparent White, or, for an extra charge, Goldtop with Brown Satin Back, all in grain-textured nitrocellulose lacquer.

The most revered Les Paul Standards ever made had bodies constructed of a mahogany back with a two-piece carved maple top, and the LPJ begins with these same cornerstones of tone. When paired, these woods offer a tonal depth and complexity unmatched by any single-wood construction, with warmth and richness from the mahogany, and superb clarity and snap from the maple, all of which translates beautifully into the guitars amplified sound. The mahogany back is strategically weight relieved to improve comfort and enhance resonance. A neck made from hard-wearing maple is glued into the body, and carved to our popular rounded 50s profile that measures .818 at the 1st fret and .963 at the 12th. It is topped with a genuine rosewood fingerboard that carries 22 medium-jumbo frets and traditional trapezoid inlays. Theres no pickguard or fingerboard binding to clutter the straight-on, stripped-down look of the LPJ, while quality touches continue with a PLEK-cut nut made from black Corian to subtly echo the black speed knobs and black pickup rings and covers. The traditional back-angled headstock is silkscreened with a gold Gibson logo that stands out clear and proud.

A pair of Gibsons popular Modern Classics humbucking pickups fire up the LPJ through your amp of choice. Made in the image of the legendary PAF humbucker and modified to suit the needs of the contemporary guitarist, the set includes a 490R in the neck position, made with an Alnico II magnet and standard-wound coils for plenty of warmth and clarity, and a 498T in the bridge position, with over-wound coils and an Alnico V magnet for more punch and sizzle in your lead playing. An independent volume and tone control per pickup plus a three-way toggle selector switch allows a broad range of sonic variations, while Gibson USAs legendary Tune-o-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece ensure solid sustain and outstanding intonation. A set of vintage-style tuners with black keys provides an impressive 16:1 gear ratio for precise and efficient tuning. Put it all together, and the new LPJ is the fastest road to a genuine Les Paul, sparing none of the tone, while putting the legend in your hands with far less load on your wallet.

Came straight out of the store in a box untouched by any guitar testers. A true Les Paul in every since of the word. I love this guitar,,,I am not in a league with the Claptons, Becks or Woods, so I picked this 2013,,in 2013,, to not attrack to much attention to myself but still sound pretty good. Never a thought about returning this back to the store,,this one is a keeper to be handed down to my kid when he outgrows his Epiphone, but at 8 years old that's a ways off yet. I am a week-end working gigger & so far in two years it still looks pretty new but has always played played like a vintage power machine. Bought a hard case for it,,,,this is a must,,you'd better to if you get one of these,,this guitar is a master piece!!

Excellent buy. The price of a high end over seas made Epiphone for a USA made Gibson. Has a nice worn look and the sound and playablity are excellent. Blows the best Epiphone Les Paul out of the water. Always a pleasure dealing with the staff at the Windsor location. They are true professionals.

I picked this up in the store for 15 minutes then proceeded to the check out. I had to have it. I am a huge fan of basic and there is nothing flashy about this guitar, so if you are in to that then forget it. Otherwise I highly recommend this...for $685 you can not go wrong.

The 498T hums a bit when turned up. Beauty neck, body, hardware, sound, looks ect. Pretty nice gig bag they throw in. I change the speed knobs to Gibson tophats, changed the truss rod cover to a blank Gibson, and added a gibson studio pickguard all for only $62 + tx just to suit my own tastes. It looks like a $1500 guitar. I HIGHLY reccommend this guitar to anyone on a budget

I have been playing and teaching for 35 years. I'm old school in a lot of ways. Guitars are one of my "old school attitudes". Recently I purchased a Gibson LPJ. I chose the red finish. It was a matter of trying 3 different ones. The red one was my choice. I had a chance to put it thru its paces as soon as I got it home. First thing: it needs a hardshell case. I will buy one in 2 days. I took it home and chose to set it up myself. That is the best way to see the workmanship up close and personal. Features are as expected from a Les Paul, regardless of model. No complaints there, that's why I bought it. Finish, a satin type finish, again as expected. The Gibson logo and pickup selector ring leaves a bit to be desired in Gibson's printing/decal dept...a bit sloppy. But not a major complaint, more of an observation. That is why I bought it...price point. Hardware is overall ok, with only one complaint: a circuit board is used to tie in all 4 pots, 2 volume and 2 tones. I would recommend having this wired as a standard Les Paul, before anything happens while playing a gig or a show...or have a 2nd guitar as a backup. There is no way to repair it between sets or backstage. That was my only disappointment. When doing intonation and bridge height adjust, the bridge worked ok, a bit stiff in height adjust, but it's only a piece of metal. It can easily be replaced if needed. I don't see any reason to do so. The neck and frets were dead on the money, and Gibson does not cut corners there! It is no question, superior to any Epiphone or Asian made guitar out there. I compared to North American made brands, Korean, and Asian, plugged in and unplugged. I did this test in the quiet of my home studio, no distractions around me. It is superior in neck, fret and playability. My big surprise was how gritty and dirty it can be, as well as smutty. But it cleans up very well! It even does country twang quite nice! I was able to get a huge range of tones with it. I was expecting some dead spots along the neck, but not a single one! It offers up great sustain with virtually any note up to the 19th or 20th fret. It is as good as any Les Paul Studio, and no doubt superior to ANY Epiphone out there. It is a Les Paul. Not a fake or a wannabe. This is the real deal!! It is a great guitar! If you like shiny new toys with fancy finishes, get an Epiphone. If you want a real player's guitar where sound, playability, tone, sustain are important...this is the guitar you must take home. I would suggest you sell off all your Epiphones and get this guitar before Gibson decides to increase the price, or discontinue it. You will not regret owning and playing the LPJ.

I've played a number of Epiphones and Gibsons over the years and here's the low down based on my experiences with both... Basically in a comparison to the Epiphones (also built by Gibson) the Gibson LPJ just blows them away including my 2012 Les Paul custom Pro (Tuxedo) which is not a cheap Epiphone by any means. If you're seriously looking for good sound please don't waste your money on an Epiphone. I'll be honest. Compared to the Gibson LPJ any Epiphone is a waste of money (speaking from experience I've owned 5). If you are going for looks... well then sacrifice the sound then and go with an Epiphone because the looks on the Gibson LPJ is not very pretty (just being honest)... they aren't exactly nice to look at without the nitrocellulose finish and they don't compare to the shiny fancy looking Epiphones with the the coil tap features, or the beautiful binding, or the magical colors, lustres and finishes with all the bells and whistles... but ask yourself... killer looks or killer sound... I picked up two of these as 'junkers' and 'Jammers' and I rehearse on them and then use my Gibson Les Paul Traditionals and Les Paul Standard for performing on Sunday so I don't wreck/wear out my expensive Gibsons. Truth is I will never go back to cheap Epiphones if I can get this kind of quality for what I call a 'cheap guitar'... even though these aren't exactly cheap. However, keep in mind, when compared to my Les Paul Traditionals and Les Paul Standards they do make the Gibson LPJ look and sound like a Standup Washtub bass mop handle and string with a megaphone... The bottom line is though the Gibson LPJ has far a richer, tighter and, crisper dynamic range (including lows, mids, highs AND sustain) than an Epiphone Les Paul (probably due to the 490s and better quality wood) but the LPJ does cost a little more... My advice... do one or two more paper routes to save up the extra cash and buy the Gibson LPJ (Is it a Les Paul Junior??? The jury is still out on that one) instead of an Epiphone LEs Paul... Then you can blow away your Epiphone friends and become a part of the 'Gibson Family' (Nothing sounds better than... yeah I own a Gibson...) and Remember this thing kills my 2012 Epiphone Les Paul Custom Pro Alpine White (Tuxedo)... Cheers! Anybody wanna buy an Epiphone les Paul Custom Pro now???

I can't believe how much I love this GTR! Truthfully i didnt want to love this gtr thinking it may be a piece of junk based on how little it costs. But, once I set it up this thing just kills! The low gloss satin finish lets ya travel the neck at break neck speed! Hats off to Gibson for making a great GTR for the working musician. Also special thx to kats at L&M Langley for steering me towards this thing.

Well worth every penny, all the traditional feel and sound of a Les Paul but without the fancy finish. Don't get me wrong, this satin finish is very nice still! Anyone looking at getting into a Les Paul on a budget, this is a must have!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
