Well I'll start by saying I have bought and sold over 15 (used) guitars in the last 2 years. Many of them being good guitars. My favorites were a seagull artist studio and a blueridge bg160. This ll16 guitar is a keeper. I bought it new around 6 months or so and recently put a bone saddle on it and ebony bridge pins. This guitar was amazing before the upgrade but I had the action lowered it just plays so well and sounds astonishing. There aren't many guitar in 750 price range that will sound as good as this one (if any). Just smooth is all I can say the sound is so clean with amazing sustain and separation. The sound is why I will have this guitar for life and the wood grain and dressing around the sound hole is beautiful. TRY ONE if you don't like it then you need a punch in the head lol.

I just installed a bone saddle on my LL16. The difference is absolutely worth the effort or cost of having one installed. I cannot say enough for this inexpensive upgrade. It matured the sound on every string, but especially the trebles and mids. Got rid of that bright ringing tone. A perfect balance of sound and tones. Each string can be heard clearly in a chord, and with sustain, they just hold their tones. Clear definition and intonation is spot on. Factory string are coated and will stay on for now. The guitar is 5 days old and also starting to open up. I can post another update, give it 3 months to open more, but I can tell you right now - this guitar with the upgrade is one serious performer. Listening to guitars on computer speakers, or even headphones does NOT compare to the real thing. Makes me wonder what the LL36 would sound like?

This guitar is an exceptional value and worth every penny. The fragrance from the solid rosewood back and sides is incredible. The fit and finish is first rate. Mine has some bear claw on the Engelmann spruce top - tightly grained. Looking inside you will see the thick bracing and posts all along the sides which ties the top and bottom. When they say this focuses the sound, they mean it. The sound from the LL16 will remind you of an expensive Taylor - but with more bottom end. The LL size just fits, and I'm an average guy in size. The guitar responds well to finger style or light strumming. Tones and notes are clear sounding. Chords ring clean without overtones muddying up the sound. Play a chord and it will decay quickly as soon as you strum the next chord. Each chord sounds true. Hold that chord and you get good sustain. Nut is 1 3/4 and very comfortable for all styles of play including the neck profile. Using the expensive tuner at the store, I could adjust each string with tiny turns on the tuners to dial it in perfectly. Good tuners, and they hold well. Strike the note, and watch the lights climb the scale until the centre green lights. It doesn't go past the green or cause the next yellow light to flicker. It just nails the green and sits there. The sound decays but holds the centre light, and then it just goes out. Other guitars I've rented - costing many times more - would cause those lights to look like a Christmas tree with the overtones. Not the Yamaha. Every string - dead on - and this from a guitar out of the box. The saddle is plastic - which gives this model a brighter sound - more like a Taylor but with more bass. I'm replacing it with a bone saddle, and suspect the tone will mellow slightly and give a tad more bass. It should sound like a cross between a Taylor and a Martin. Don't get me wrong - the sound out of the box is rich and full. The bracing also allows you to dig in and get aggressive, and the sound holds up no problem. It already compares well to either of those makes sound wise, and I would put it up against any Taylor in the $2,000 range. Yes, it's that good.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
