Worked for a year. Finally gave up on the windsock, as it kept falling off. Went to use it one day. Put fresh batteries in, and ... nothing. Checked to make sure the battery polarity was correct ... it was. Still wouldn't power on. Put in a set of known good batteries ... still nothing. Apparently, this is an issue, but there is no recall, and no recourse from either the seller or the manufacturer. Not a complete waste of $130.00 +taxes, but close enough.

I used it for 2 years now for video production recording a whole spectrum of scenes from nature sounds stereo recording through 1, 2, and 5 person interview stereo recordings, studio secondary backup stereo recording, working with additional lavalier mic, using it as a recorder for RODE video mini shotgun mic, as well as RODE NTG2 shotgun mic, recording live events including rock concert, reading in studio, recording voice over, recording lectures, documentary recordings of meetings, presentations, vlog recordings, and more. I cannot confirm fast going through batteries, as mine uses 1 per whole day of recordings (more than 8 hrs of non stop recording) which is great and beats XLR mics which go through batteries much faster. I am getting a second one now for my talents in the field using lavalier mics, or for interviews. I prefer this one over remote mics for its superior sound quality, great clarity, elimination of harmonics that remote mics catch, easiness of use, versatility and durability. I would advise though to get it with the kit for it is vital to have the protective box, charger, and wind screen. I have had only twice situation when by my mistake the whole rec level was way too low, and even then sound was so clear that I could increase gain in post without increasing noise a lot. It is a solid equipment made in Japan, that lasts a long time on a single AA battery. The only thing I would improve is the guard around mics should be made of unbreakable plastic or metal, as the original one breaks too easily. Also this mic should be sold with its covering box to protect it properly. I set recording levels in headphones so I do not have issues with wrong level any more.

Voice teacher - record song samples for students, record concerts and gigs of band, choir, small ensembles and it sounds fabulous. My only issue sorta is when i have tried to set the volume i can't seem to get it right so always use the auto setting. Once in awhile you can hear the adjustments however there is a plus side to that ...something that may have been too soft i can hear... something that may have distorted is just right so i prefer hearing that occasional adjustment and knowing i have everything. Couldn't live without it. I dropped too many times and broke the protective rings a piece at a time... passed it on and got a new one.

watched and read a lot of reviews before deciding on it. I really like the sound quality and features. The only thing unexpected is that you can not use both the external and internal mic at the same time and record to separate tracks (even though it can record to 2 tracks).

I bought this to record rehearsals for my 5 piece cover band that plays a wide range of music. It works great! the sound quality is surprisingly good for a relatively cheap unit using only the built in microphones. You definitely want to buy the accessory pack, mainly for the ac adapter as the device goes through AA batteries very quickly when recording. Get a cheap extension cord too! the stand in the accessory pack is also very helpful. I'm glad I didn't spend the extra money on the upper Zoom H models as the cheap H1 does everything great. There is a free software download included, but I haven't used is as I have Adobe Audition. Any software that accepts WAV format will work great. The automatic level finder isn't great, it makes choppy abrupt adjustments. Much better to find your own level at the beginning of a session.

For no apparent reason, it died. Wouldn't power on with new batteries. Not old and hardly used. Worked well when it worked though, so will buy another, even though the price has gone up 25%, and just hope for the best.

This is a great product. I use it for recording classical guitar. It has the sensitivity to pick up as much as I want or need to hear. hard to believe that they can offer the features and quality at this price. Don't buy a cheap USB microphone buy this you will be happy you did. The optional accessory pack is a good addition as well!

I started getting into field recording and needed something portable and easy to use. I've had experience with the H4 recorder and this one is set up in a very similar fashion. I wanted something that I could record with at a moments notice and this thing performs well. I grabbed the accessories pack and it was worth the money, the windscreen, tripod and handle are great value adds if you do recording outside or need to increase your quality (in a sense that you get less wind or shaking sound). And for under $150 this unit is great. Also it's easy on batteries too. It doesn't have a lot of extra features but to me that's ok. I can do my edits in DAWS or other software. Also the sensitivity setting is easy to use on the fly and can record in different formats.

I bought this to record sermons at a church ('house of worship' in music store parlance). Zoom have simplified the controls to the point that they are annoying. Two times, I was not recording when I thought I was. The combined recording light/peak indicator is problematic. Essentially, it is in record standby mode as soon as you turn it on. Maybe I'm still too caught up in operating tape decks. I am using a headphone output from a mixer and that is a very hot signal for a device with a combined mic/line input. I have a 50K stereo stereo volume control in series to reduce the signal. The auto level works well for use with the built-in mics, but does NOT handle a full headphone level signal as a line input. Also, be careful with the micro-SD memory card. This one was knocked off a desk and run over by a chair roller -- kaput.

Use it to record pastor's sermons and rough musical ideas. Works excellent. Easy to edit in Adobe Audition later.

Excellent product but with one serious flaw - it eats AA batteries - 1 per recording session.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
