Become a Better Drummer, Faster

When you're serious about drumming, you need a kit to match your ambition. The V-Drums TD-17 series lets your technique shine through, backed up with training tools to push you further. Combining a TD-50-class sound engine with newly developed pads results in an affordable electronic drum kit that's authentically close to playing acoustic drums accurately mirroring the physical movement, stick coordination and hand/foot control that every drummer needs. Meanwhile, an array of built-in coaching functions will track your technique, measure your progress and increase your motivation. Becoming a better drummer is still hard work, but the TD-17 can help you get there.

Authentic Playing Feel and Skill-Building Tools
If you regularly play acoustic drums, you shouldn't have to change your playing style to use an electronic drum kit. You can use the same playing techniques you'd use on an acoustic kit, without compromise, thanks to the large 12-inch snare. And being based on the flagship TD-50 sound engine, the sounds faithfully reproduce the character and tone of acoustic drums, with lightning fast response time.

Realistic Pads for Uncompromising Performance
Some electronic kits use much smaller pads than youd typically find on an acoustic kit but because the drumstick has to hit the center of each drum, these smaller pads can actually feel further away from you. This is especially true if you've moved from playing a 14-inch acoustic snare to an 8-inch rubber pad. The 12-inch dual-mesh PDX-12 snare is tension-adjustable for authentic and satisfying rebound, while the height of the snare hoop is much closer to that of an acoustic snare so you can hit an open rim shot with a natural stick angle. If you're serious about drumming, the TD-17 lets your technique shine through without asking you to compromise.

The Essential Tools to Improve Your Drumming
The TD-17 module includes a Coach Mode to support your daily exercise regime. You can warm up, develop your sense of groove, tempo and timing, and even work on your stamina all with a score that tells you how you're doing.

Join Your Favourite Band - No Audition Necessary
Although playing endless drum solos is undeniably fun, it only takes you so far. Push your drumming further by playing along with your favourite bands, or rehearse the tunes you'll be playing on stage. The TD-17 module has an onboard recorder so you can play and then review what you actually played, not what you thought you played. You can even play along and record with the onboard demo songs or audio stored on SD card it's also a great way to capture audio for YouTube videos.

Preparing To Play Live
When rehearsing, it's important to play with the same familiar drum sounds that you'll be using on stage. The TD-17 includes a variety of expressive modelled drum sounds inherited from the flagship TD-50, so you'll be sure to find the perfect drum sound as you prepare for the gig.

I've tried it for the third time yesterday, owning a Yamaha 502 (which is getting pretty old), I was expecting to feel like a brand new drum set from the year would be better... Well, I was disappointed. First of all, the sound. If you don't like the typical Roland sound like me, you probably won't like these sounds at all. Switching from the 502 to the td17 using the same headphones got me to think the 502 sound much natural, but that's a matter of preference. I know a lot of Roland lovers who prefer the 17 and that's totally fine. For the triggering, it's great. It surely has its little problems, but nothing you can't fix with the module. The pads are great too. The ride's bell is pretty hard to trigger and the cymbals are a bit small, but for the price it's okay. Last call, the module. While I'm pretty attach to the aux cord and won't use the Bluetooth, it's a nice feature and more module should have it. The overall experience is great. While the module as some flaws, most of it comes down to the user interface and will disappear with a little use and reading. Overall, I wouldn't buy this drum set alone, but with a great vst like SD3 or ssd5, it could get interesting.

Product Experience   I've tried it

I was at L&M yesterday and they had the TD-17KVS. I spent about 45 min playing it, then they kicked me out, because, well they were closing. Long story short: Nice pads, ok triggering, stiff error prone hihat pedal trigger, good sounding acoustic kits, very limited and simple brain, no melodic patches, basic drum machine percussion sounds, disappointing product overall in a market of over priced electronic drum kits. I thought the TD-17 KV was going to set a new bar for value and performance in the electronic drum kit category, however after playing it, I realized it is just a cost engineered version of the TD-11. While Roland marketing claims that they are using the TD-50 engine, I do not see or hear any evidence of this when using the system. The sounds are limited, the programming is even more limited, and multi-effects are limited to just one effect for a whole drum kit. After playing the product and going through all the standard 50 drum kits, I decided to create my own drum kit. The unit does allow users to store their own samples to use, however it is cumbersome and their isn't much memory for these samples. Creating a kit is a rather simple matter on the unit. Hit a drum pad, press assign, select a sound, and that's about it. Since I wanted to see what the unit could do I assigned one of the 10 more complex sounds to a pad, adjusted its pitch to play 1+ octave down, and added a stereo delay different left and right delay lengths. I then assigned 2 different sounds to a cymbal pad, chose the cross fade to happen at the midpoint between soft and hard hits to the pad, and adjusted the levels. When I tried to assign a reverb effect, the unit did not let me. It only supports *one effect* on all the sounds, in this case the stereo delay I had already setup. The unit says it is "multifx", in reality it only has one effect that you can add or not add to the sound from a pad. Compare this to the Behringer Air XR-12 12 channel digital mixer that can process many different effects on every channel, has wifi, ipad and PC control programs, and is $300. The unit does have an ambience control that allows the user to add a reverb to the final mixed output for the unit. In 2018, for an $1600 electronic instrument the processing performance is really weak. The user interface of the unit is pretty good. I was able to setup 4 drum pads and figure out how to make some sophisticated adjustments in 15 minutes. Given that the unit is $1600 CAD, 1200 USD, I simply do not see the value for most users. Anyone with a bit of DIY know how could watch some youtube videos and create electronic drum pads as functional as the Roland pads for less than $100. Even if you buy the drum mounting hardware you still will be way cheaper then this kit without a sound source. while the company ddrum makes a very inexpensive unit that can handle 10 triggers inputs and output midi notes to any sound source. It is unfortunate that in 8 years we have not seen the improvements we have seen in other areas music technology areas. Electronic drums simply don't deliver the value synthesizers, guitar processors, or acoustic drums provide. with one exception, the Korg Global Wave drum, but that is another review.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
