I bought this thing about 7 years ago. I can coax great, personalized tones out of this thing with a minimum of knowledge and effort. No, it doesn't sound like my Moog or Prophet REV2, but that's kind of the point of this thing. The stacked sawtooths give it a bit of the character of aRoland Jupiter 8 or 106.

This was my first synth and I chose it as it had a great control layout. Having a knob/slider for any aspect of the feature is not only efficiently handy, it is also great for helping someone become familiar with the world of synthesis. With the three stack-able synths built into one synth, you can produce highly complex tones with ease. The D-Beam feature and the ability to associate it with any knob/slider is pretty cool. Really happy with it.

I can't understand why roland produced this rubbish, now they are going for $400 second hand. you can use a free softsynth that will produce just the same racket and you'll have lots more room in your studio.

This is my first hardware synthesizer, overall it is very versatile. You can program a very expansive range of sounds and textures. It lacks the "grit" of analogue synthesizers, but is great for building pads and sound-scapes. A couple things you will want to do - pick up the expression pedal for it and use it to control your D-Beam expression. Secondly turn on velocity sensitivity - makes a big difference in bringing phrases to life.

I gravitate towards creating pads when I'm anywhere near a poly analogue synth since the pre-cooked offerings on many sample sets leave me wanting. But for me, this is heavenly. Now I can sweep a filter knob or an attack slider just the way I want in real time on my couch with a pair of headphones whenever the inspiration strikes. Don't be fooled...this synth dishes out some lovely pads. Don't mind me, I'm off to light some candles and slip away into my Gaia supersaw soundscape!

The "one knob/slider per function" is very very helpful when programming and is very inspiring. The 64 voices and layering is also very helpful. That said, it is perfect as a digital sounding modern synth. It cannot sound as present/lifelike/rich as a true analog - no digital synth can. For the money, a great digital VA with many sound possibilities including evolving pads, sound effects and keys.

I bought it but was not really happy with the sounds it made. It was OK, but I returned it before month was over, went back to my Roland SH-201 (the model previous to the SH-01). It is good for a learning synth, but the price is too high, would be great if price was around $400. Took money from this one and bought a KORG Krome.

I love my Gaia. So versatile and the easy controls allow you to design / modify the sound as you perform. I have switched to the Gaia from the Korg MS-2000B. Love the analogue sounds! Here is a tutorial video where I show some cool Gaia patches: http://geoffmobile.com/blog/roland-gaia-classic-synth-sounds-part-1-tutorial-vlog-by-geoffmobile-sept-27-2012

For a mid-range synth this is in direct competition with the Novation Ultranova. It lacks a Vocoder and a line-in, and you have to pay for the VST, but beyond that it is a very excellent performance keyboard. Great sound, plays great, the keys are very playable, and the knobs are sexy. Great practice keyboard with the ipod input feature with the 1/8 headphone input. Or use it for gigging to mix in beats/samples. Lacks an included USB cord which is a shame. Lurv me some Supersaw! Beats inferior cheap VSTs like a red-headed stepchild.

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty.

Warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?

Performance Guarantee - normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage.

Product Replacement - if your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.

No Lemon Policy - your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.

Convenient - easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.

Guitar Setup - Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.

Loaners Available - a loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.

Power Surge Protection - your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.

Accessory Coverage - any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.

Commercial Use Coverage - music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty.Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, woodwind pads, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Accidental or cosmetic damage is not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

-----

Purchasing additional years of coverage

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

NEW products: 4% of selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.

USED products: 4% of selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year. Pricing for used electronic products is 4% of the original new selling price.

GUITARS: 4% of selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.

BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: $40 up to $2,000 selling price. BRASS and STRINGS: 2% of the selling price after $2,000. WOODWINDS: 4% of the selling price after $2,000.

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.
