Rented this just to see how well it did harmonies intelligently as the Whammy never did that. You can also adjust the effect level to change the amount of dry note to the harmonized one which you could not do on the latest Whammy. This was Boss' third attempt at doing a harmony pedal and it still sounded out of key. The warbling was gone but what complicated things was I tune a half step flat. I HATE standard tuning as its harder to bend notes and I find I fight the guitar too much. The pedal still had the inbetween keys that are sharp or flat. I used those to accomodate my tuning. Also when playing with any harmony or pitchshifted note there was an annoying echo like the note tracked slightly behind the note you play. The pitchshifter sounded as good as the Whammy but creating shifts with octaves, 4ths or 5ths is not intelligent harmony anyway unless you use 3rds or 6ths which require a certain key. The Detune function has way too many settings. Its really just a chorus anyway. At its lowest setting its barely noticable, at the highest level its good but there are better dedicated chorus pedals out there. The Whammy also has a Detune setting that is either shallow or deep which isn't the best but it has less settings than the Boss. To imitate the Whammy you use the S Bend setting. You need the expression pedal for that otherwise on the pedal you can adjust the rise and fall time of the pedal but it still does not have the control of the Whammy unfortunately. The S Bend also has some gimmicky settings with vibrato and pitch shifts up or down 4 octaves which excedes the Whammy but on higher notes the Boss won't go so extreme and the note just chokes out.On the low octave settings, the note pitches so low you can't hear it. Several octaves up or down is just not useable. Congratulations Digitech, your pedal still can't be beat.

I've had this pedal for a few years now, and it is a decent Boss compact pedal. I was amazed when I first heard the thing play, and I bought it. Had loads of fun using my DD-7 (great digital delay from Boss) as a looper effect and playing harmony lead solos over the looped rhythm chord progression. Good detune effect too, as I didn't want to buy a chorus at the time. As I continued to play, I began to notice it playing some incorrect notes, despite the fact that my guitar was in tune, and that can really sound bad, especially playing live. But it never failed me during live playing, and the detune effect works quite well. If you are in desperate need of a harmonizer, this is a good one, but it will never take the place of another guitar player harmonizing with you. Fun toy, but if you dont need, and you can harmonize with other guitarists, the save your money for something else.

Love this thing! Takes a while to dial in but has a plethora of very usable sounds and some just way out and crazy sounds. Especially during soloing. It also adds a bit of overdriven distortion which really can take your solos to a new level. Love it!

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty.

Warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?

Performance Guarantee - normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage.

Product Replacement - if your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.

No Lemon Policy - your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.

Convenient - easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.

Guitar Setup - Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.

Loaners Available - a loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.

Power Surge Protection - your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.

Accessory Coverage - any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.

Commercial Use Coverage - music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty.Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, woodwind pads, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Accidental or cosmetic damage is not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

NEW products: 4% of selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.

USED products: 4% of selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year. Pricing for used electronic products is 4% of the original new selling price.

GUITARS: 4% of selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.

BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: $40 up to $2,000 selling price. BRASS and STRINGS: 2% of the selling price after $2,000. WOODWINDS: 4% of the selling price after $2,000.

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.
