From the Beatles to Jeff Beck, Santana to Stevie Ray, many guitar greats have incorporated the rotary speaker into their rigs. With this in mind BOSS proudly presents the RT-20 Rotary Sound Processor. Employing COSM-modeling technology, the RT-20 authentically reproduces classic rotary-speaker sounds. It offers adjustable Rise Time, Horn and Bass speed, Overdrive, and more. And not just for classic twirl, the RT-20 can be used to create unique overdrive and pulsating effects as well. This pedal sounds amazing, and offers a stunning graphical view of the virtual rotors on its built-in display.

i added an Art Pro electronic crossover to the output of my RT-20. Crossover frequency 800hz. Tube amp for the high frequency transistor amp with a 15 in for the low frequency. Makes this pedal come alive. Just running in mono is gig ready. With Bi amp configuration you can really adjust for the rotor nuances during speed transitions. I use a tube screamer in front for distortion and can get the " grind". Also I use a modfactor vibrato for the added vibrato effect typical of hammonds. This is for a guitar application. Sounds much better than just the RT-20 alone. Lot of reviews on Y-tube regarding lex' s and ventilators. I think this is just cork sniffing. They are capable of emulating a Leslie effect sans moving air. I would recommend the rt-20

This is the first pedal I've purchased, and I would say that, overall, it's great! I am a big fan of psychedelic rock, and this pedal allows you to get the guitar effects used in that era, without having to buy heavy gear. It has a sound versatility with it's 4 modes, and with the speed and tone dials. You also have the option of a fast or slow rise time, and adjusting the intensity of the overall effect through the Effect and Direct dials. The overdrive is a bit intense, but a low setting gives your sound the right amount of edge to it. I wish it came with the AC adapter, but it's a sturdy and well-built pedal. So, the extra cost for an adapter isn't too much more. Also, having the battery option gives you flexibility, and the batteries last quite a while. And I love the funky light display that shows how fast the speed is. Groovy baby!

The distortion/overdrive emulator is terrible and can only be dialed just a hair to heighten the natural flanging sound produced by the Leslie. There are two distortion sounds; the original Leslie overdrive and a Marshal speaker overdrive. The Leslie overdrive is the one that compliments the Leslie sound. The Univibe feature remotely resembles a Univibe. I own a Univibe so I can say honestly that it is MUCH better to find the remake by Dunlop as this it the best Univibe sound I have tried and heard. Basically this pedal really only has two practical settings; 1 & 2. The first is the Leslie sound without natural tremolo. There are two mixes; effect and direct. With the ability to control these two sound signals one can recreate a natural Leslie chorus and with a little Leslie overdrive and a slow speed, a Leslie flanging sweep. The second mode is the Leslie with natural tremolo. This is ideal to emulate a real Leslie speaker. Only using the effect mix and adding a little Leslie overdrive with a slower peed gives the impression of a real Leslie sound. Faster speeds sound more organ like and might be better suited for a keyboard. This mode is absolutely done justice in stereo. Mode three is the same as two except the speaker is Marshall with an unpleasant overdrive. Rather pointless. The fourth is the attempted Univibe emulator with the unpleasant Marshal overdrive. Again rather pointless. The nice feature about this pedal is a knob that is basically a tone knob; it is the balance between the bass and the horn speakers. The sound can be tweaked to increase one and decrease the other in volume thus adjusting the tone. All in all if you are looking for a justifiable Leslie emulator for a keyboard or guitar in mono or stereo then this one delivers that promise and only that promise.

I was blown away by the versatility of this pedal. It really is the next best thing to owning a Leslie or Univibe cabinet. The distortion is realistic with guitar or organ. You can tweak it and set the intensity, and it's easy to kick on or off. The rotary speed is also simple to use and the graphic is amazing, it lets you know how fast the rotary effect is, and it looks way cool. It also has a natural "spin up" speed which you can use to your advantage (check out some of Felix Cavaliere's playing with The Rascals). One disadvantage of this type of effect is you can't capture the natural movement of air that a true rotating speaker gives you. I compensate for this by using a Boss Digital Delay pedal (I have a DD2 and a DD3) set to a very fast delay with a single echo, and this gives the illusion of movement. I suppose this could have been incorporated into the pedal, but it's only a minor detail. If I have one gripe, it's that an AC adapter was not included. If you're going to spend this much on a pedal, you'd think Boss would throw it in. However, it does come with batteries, and they have a reasonable life expectancy as compared to other stomp boxes.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
