I bought this lefty from the Calgary east store in December. Great people there. It plays like a much more expensive guitar. I changed the strings to Long and McQuade brand. They are bright sounding and a great value. Thanks. .

The lefty i just purchased is excellent in my opinion. The set up is great, nice and low with no buzz or issues. I do wish the would make a Sunburst in a Lefty.

Bought this to kind of test the waters with Acoustic. I had a cheap Yamaha Classical guitar I was playing on prior but it had a flat fretboard and nylon strings so it made articulations and bends pretty difficult. Didn't think I'd love it so much but now I barely touch my electric. as far as the quality of the guitar you can't really expect much for the price but what I personally got was a pretty fantastic sounding guitar with no dead spots on the fretboard and no buzzing anywhere even though I didn't get it set up. The tuning stability is great I can go days without needing to adjust the tension on the strings even with hour + sessions on those days. My only real complaint was that the frets didn't get much if any attention so they're pretty sharp and if I didn't have rough worker hands I could see that being a minor annoyance. Pretty easy to fix but I didn't even bother. tldr: Buy it!

I bought the DR100VS just after COVID19 hit us last year. I am not a beginner, however I still consider myself an amateur. I like the sound of this dreadnought and it has a good sustain without any modifications. The vintage sunburst looks amazing. The only thing I miss is a cutaway... It would be great to have a dreadnought cutaway guitar around this price point - does not matter if it has electronics or not. About L&M Scarborough... they are just a wonderful bunch of people who never fail to delight me.

I bought the D100 primarily,y to take to the cottage rather than my expensive acoustic. I am really impressed with the tone and build quality for this inexpensive guitar. Even with the standard strings that came with it (some reviewers said it was better after changing the string) also I did not experience any buzzing. Strongly recommend this guitar playability is great.

Probablement une des guitares qui selon moi sonne le mieux pour son prix. Ses sons sont deep et porte vraiment nicely. Beaucoup de guitares dans les 400 que j'ai essayé sonne vide comparé à cet instrument.

The guitar came with a bow in the neck which made it hard to play. After adjusting the tension with the truss rod and changing strings to D’Addario medium tension, the guitar was easier to play and its sound became softer. For what I've seen epiphone truss rods covers have engraved the model of each guitar. Well, the 'truss rod cover' on top of the nut of this guitar is missing the DR logo. Bad. It is made in China where quality control overlooks some details.

To start off, the red in the image looks a lot brighter than the finish of the guitar in person. In person, it is much nicer and darker looking with a really solid cream binding. The strings that came with the guitar sucked and the action was set super high. Once I swapped the strings to D'addario EXP10 .010-.047's and adjusted the truss rod to lower the action, the guitar was perfect. I've had no issues with it so far and I love picking it up even though I mostly play my les paul electric. Perfect guitar for the money, you literally can't go wrong.

I got this guitar because I wanted to learn how to play. After researching and also looking at reviews i found this to be the best quality at this price point. I can't say I know a lot about guitars but i'm extremely happy with it and also the care they put into shipping it. Speaking as a beginner I would recommend it to anyone starting out. It sounds good and it looks good.

It was a calling. The day I went to the store for the 1st time, I liked ebony (EB) but could not get a fresh box. Had to cancel that day. Called for a spl. Kind people actually brought a fresh piece. But the day I went finally, I met Ed at the bloor st. Store. He helped me with the Wine red (WR). And OMFG, I loved the colour, even the sound was fuller in the WR then the EB. 1st I thought m mistaken as m a beginner but Ed helped me and amazing guitar. Personal thanks to Ed. And 5 stars for the guitar

Don't be fooled by its picture color because it's really DARKER in person than it is in the picture. At first glance, I thought it was black but then I took a closer look and it really was dark wine red. Besides the color, the guitar itself sounds good. It has a HIGH crisp with a WARM bass. I suggest that you change the strings into phosphor bronze to lower down the action a little bit (depends on your preferences). The only con for this guitar is a little bit of buzzing, but I'm not really sure about that since I'm a beginner. For a $199 guitar, I'd say that this is worth it! If you're a fan of mid-high sounds then I suggest you go for Yamaha F310 or Fender CD-60.which is about the same price or so. Despite being a beginner, I did a week of research before buying this.

It honestly isn't a very good quality guitar. It's great for beginners but you will quickly outgrow it and wish you'd invested in something more worthwhile. Hard to say this, but I have owned the guitar for quite a few years now, so I know.

my sister bought this guitar to try to learn at the Edmonton store, and she ended up bringing it back to Ontario and giving it to me, At first I was like "sweet" a good party guitar in which I can take to party's and wouldn't be upset if it got scuffed up, after playing it a weekend that out look changed and I love it and is my main acoustic. defiantly worth the money

I got this guitar when If irst started playing (about 12 years old). Obviously I had no idea at that time what a quality guitar is. Now that I tried bunch of other guitars, nothing compares to this one. I had this for about 4 years and I still love it. I am not a pro but I am experienced and have a new band and all that. My brother by accidently broke a string (his fault, not the guitar) and I replaced them to Gibson ones. They sound better, no dramatic difference. The only complaint I have is buzzing, but the pros makes me disregard the buzzing. Also, I got many conpliments about the design. I have the dark ombre kind of one and I fell in love at first sight!

Yes, this is a cheap guitar, and yes, it is made in China, but for around $130 this is the perfect guitar to start learning on, play recreationally, or jam around a fire with some friends. The action is nice right out of the box, and the factory strings are surprisingly playable. Sounds nice and clear. It feels light/flimsy and a bit plastic-y due to the laminate finish, but that is by no means a deal breaker. For the price, this guitar is a no brainer. A definite recommendation.

I've learned to play the guitar 9 years ago, quit for a couple of years and wanted to get back into it so I purchased this guitar since it was affordable. Stock strings were playable, but changing them into better strings made the sound a whole lot better. Absolute great guitar for what it is worth. Have seen some guitars with the same price range that cannot come close to this one!

This is a beautiful guitar, and its great quality. When you pay for it, it is worth the money! Great for performances, I used it for a solo in my class and it goes well with someone singing with the guitar. I saw this guitar online and immediately knew it was mine. The colors are an amazing red wine and gold tuners. It is an all around beauty. I brought it to school and all my music friends were asking if they could play it, including some amazing guitarists saying it was a great guitar!

I would have never looked at this guitar twice had I not found myself in Grande Prairie, AB working and not having been able to bring my guitar up there due to luggage restrictions on my flight. Discovered L&M rented guitars so I rented their cheapest guitar, this one for $15/month. Cheaper than checking in a second bag on an airplane. I was very impressed overall and quite surprised that someone could produce this nice of a guitar for such a low price. They say,"you get what you pay for", but at $129 I would say this guitar is a definite exception to that rule. You get way more. I just bought one I was so impressed. Only con are the strings, very poor quality, which I had replace immediately at the store. They did it for free and counted it as the once a year setup which is included in the sale of every guitar they sell.

Due to luggage restrictions on a flight up to Grande Prairie I found myself without my guitar up there to work for a couple on months. Rented this guitar for $13 month and quite frankly will miss it when I return it after job is finished. Great action and sounds much better than some upper end brand name acoustics I have tried that had a price tag of $600 plus. Incredible player for the price.

I tried this guitar at the store and it was really good. Slim fast neck, metal strings, perfect beginner guitar. Check the price and could not believe it! Little over hundered?! This is a copy of more expensive Gibson! Plays easy, good sound and well build. Checked other manufacters and always came back for this one. Bought two of them for my beginner relatives. They are very happy with them and learn so fast. Go for it, money best spent!

Renting one for a couple of months. Have also rented some expensive Taylors, and this basic DR 100 holds it own considering the price. Well made, a good neck, a great deal.

The strings suck, as one other review says, so replace them. If you get it, it sounds nice, and you'll keep it around. It is one you can take wherever you go and not worry too much about it. It keeps it's tune really well. I can play for more than an hour without needing to re-tune.

it is a great and very affordable guitar and its looks stunning , the only downfall are the pre-installed guitar string, when you play chords you get a really noticeable harmonics and the strings hurt your finger tips as they are so thick and tight . But that can easily be solved by buying a new pair of strings . Apart from that the guitar is perfect , i take it to school and back everyday , its light weight and portable with its bag (if you get the starter kit)

I needed a guitar to keep at the office (I have 5 more at home) and this fits the bill nicely. For a cheap guitar with a laminate top, it plays well and the action is particularly good for the money. This guitar would be a great choice for a beginner who wants to figure out if they will keep on playing - not a lot of money, but no SO cheap and badly made that it would kill interest. Consider changing the strings to a lighter set. No electronics.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
