GT-12AX7C - Chinese Select Preamp Tube
This product is no longer available.
A Chinese version of the 12AX7-C. Great for Marshalls and Fenders. Sweet warm mid range tone, complements tone of European amps. A tube that takes some of the edge off of high gain amps by reducing the brightness while still having the gain and articulation. For those that change first stage gain preamp tubes to change the taste and character of their amps (remember, this can be done in less than a minute without tools, adjustments, or a "tech"). This is one tube that should be in your basic toolbox. The basic tube sets generally are the 12AX7C, ECC83, and 7025 to cover a wide range of styles and tastes for most amplifiers.

I have just finished several hours of "tube rolling". I listened through channel one (the simplest channel on my old Fender), with the amp open on my bench, to various 12ax7's with no tubes whatsoever in channel two. The Groove Tubes 12ax7-C won out over all the others including some NOS RCA's. i need a super-clean, quiet preamp tube with great tone that does not distort quickly. This is the tube for that (but maybe not for high-gain applications). Highly-recommended!

My Traynor YCV40 had its stock tubes (all 3 tubes were Sovtek 12ax7A) that I bought in 2005. It was time to change them. I wanted a dirtier sound and searched for info on the internet. So I use the GT-12AX7C in V1, to give the dirty tone I was looking for. In V2, right before the send effect loop, I put a Mesa-Boogie SPAX7, as recommended in another review. In V3 (inverter in some references, but called splitter in the Traynor manual) a Mesa-Boogie 12AX7 because I saw in a video that it was better if V3:a and V3:b signal have the same mV, which Mesa-Boogie tubes are supposed to be. I'm very satisfied with the dirty sound of th GT tube. This preamp tubes setup provides me with more color, and more nuances. A pitched harmonic was neatly hearable, which was nit the case with my old and tired stock tubes. I wrote all this information because I don't know how much this single tube is responsible for the change in my amp sound, but I strongly recommend this one.
