In writing my original review, I noticed the required current for this tuner is 120 mA. I never thought I could be starving the thing. After all, my bigger, faster Korg could run on a 9V battery and this was simpler and smaller. I didn't give a second thought to current rating, but now realize that I had a 100 mA output shared between the SST and a Boss WL-50 wireless unit. 100mA is not enough for the SST alone! I hooked it up to a Boss 9V adapter with 500 mA capability and yes, the PedalTrain SST tuner responds more positively and reacts to note changes better than before. It's still not as fast as my Korg Pitchblack Custom, but more usable and far less annoying. I gave it a '5' for Features, the main one being its size and it does excel at that. You can Velcro it anywhere on your board. I bumped up the other categories by one. So, in summary, I take back what I said about it in the review above. I WOULD buy another one if pressed for space on a board.

I bought this obviously to cram more pedals onto my board, and despite the shortcoming of slowness, it is staying there as I can work with it. I am disappointed that from a "cold-start", it sometimes takes 2 or 3 seconds to even register that a note is being played. Once it gets going, recognition is fairly continuous, but then again, when I'm tuning, sometimes the display will show I'm flat (my starting point), when my ears tell me I've already gone sharp! I stop plucking the string momentarily so it regains its bearings and then I start plucking again, this time with a better response. I play bass, both 4 & 5 strings, and the above happens fairly regularly with the 4-stringers. It's not just a B-string thing. The good points about the PedalTrain Tuner: * its 15/16" width * good brightness * no batteries, powered from pedalboard power supply * always on state Maybe I should have taken this back, but the space-saving seems to be enough of a positive that I've kept it. I cannot strongly recommend it, though. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't buy it again. It's nice to have something so small, but if it can't be made properly at the price point, then either use better components and charge more or don't bother making it at all. PedalTrain may make very good boards, but for me, their electronic add-ons have been a disappointment. The SST Tuner being one and their Volto power supply (Version 1), being the other. My larger tuner, a Korg Pitchblack Custom, has performance many times better than this SST Tuner. Makes it hard to do an unbiased review.
