I bought this so & I was so excited, got home & it worked fine, it actually sounded pretty decent but then it randomly stopped picking by up signal. I called long & mcquade they said to call the company…so I got ahold of the company & was told to take the top off & “wiggle” the wires around. To my surprise that worked…a few months later same problem & now it doesn’t work anymore…I’m gonna try ordering a new adaptor…but if I send it in for repair at this point it will cost at least like half the price I paid for the unit….not happy obvy :( waiting to hear back from the company…the frustrating thing is I’m just trying to make decent music with decent vocals & now I have to wait for my preamp to work or dish out a bunch more money for a new one? Pause on the music….

By far the best sounding pre I've ever had the luxury of using in my home studio, and much better than quite a few I've used in commercial setups. It excels as a character pre, but is more than adequate when used to get a clean signal. The DI also sounds lovely, and can really add "magic" to a bass synth.
Personally I think this sounds better than anything costing up to $2000 for a single channel, so when you consider the cost, it's a no-brainer

I got a Good harmonic distortion from it, cheep too, couldn't believe this pre cost so little, I got a great river 73pre and it took a while to differ the two, sounded very close.

I use this Preamp in my Home Studio alongside a Focusrite ISA One, and 2 UA 710s... Most people have a hard time telling the difference between them. You can tell the difference if you have a good ear. The 710's are $830 each, The ISA One $550, and the Pre 73 $350... you do the math! I've had good results with Mics from an SM57 to an SM7B to a C414XLii to a TLM 103... all work quite well with this unit. Great Buy!

Great sounding unit, when it's not on fire. I bought this Pre-73 MK2 at the Vancouver store, had it running for 10 minutes feeding a CAD M179, I go to change a setting and to my horror, smoke is bellowing out of every hole! Of course I unhook it and rush outside to let it air out, all while thinking - this must be how they get that sound!
Anyway, I'm going to return it and try to avoid GA-Projects from now on.
Given my experience with this unit I DO NOT RECOMMEND it, well, only if you want you insurance premiums to go up.
I understand if many people have had good results, but IMHO if quality control is that weak where they ship units that catch fire within minutes, it's not worth the risk.
