The SG Standard 61 returns to the classic design that made it relevant, played and loved - shaping sound across generations and genres of music. In 1961, the Les Paul model was put on hiatus and an all new design evolved into what is today known as the SG or solid guitar. The Gibson SG Standard '61 retains the styling of the original featuring a slim taper mahogany neck and a bound rosewood fingerboard. The mahogany body features deeply sculpted body, a 5-ply teardrop pickguard and a 22nd-fret neck joint. The nickel plated hardware includes a classic-style Tune-O-Matic bridge and keystone tuners. The pickups are 61R and 61T humbuckers for a classic voice with added power and top end. Controls feature audio taper potentiometers and orange drop capacitors.

Purchased a new Gibson SG Standard 61- Stopbar and want to say how much I love this guitar. Upon opening the case, this thing radiates RocknRoll but that doesn’t mean it’s not versatile. The 61 Burstbuckers deliver a full range of tones from the snarl of Angus and Zeppelin to the warmth of BB KING’s Lucile. The neck is a slim 60s profile and very comfortable in the hand. And don’t worry about neck dive, it’s a myth. This guitar is comfortable and easy to wield as a Samurai Sword! If you’re thinking about buying a 61’ , do yourself a favor and do it. No Regret!!

so its my birthday and I decided to rent out the gibson sg vintage cherry and I have to say its a great guitar. ill always go for gibson guitars and ive always went for les Pauls but recently ive got more into classic rock like acdc and green day and jimmy Hendrix so I rented out this guitar and wow its so light weight plays great feels and sounds great and im considering on maybe keep renting it out so I can keep it at some point. this guitar screams classic and vintage. the only issue I have with the guitar is that on the 4th fret theirs a very small chip on the wood fret but it doesn't interfere with my playing at all. overall its a used guitar and amazing

I am a huge fan of this guitar, out of all the gibsons I have played recently trying to find the right Gibson for me this seemed to be it, comfortable, tuning stability and has that classic SG look. I would recommend this definitely.. price is a little crazy but I mean worth it for a great guitar to keep for life.

Out of the box this guitar was great. Comparing this to the Gibson SG standard (2019) was significant differences wrt feel and sound. The sound and controls were very different due to the different pups and different wiring, the tone control seemed to be much more responsive in the 61 compared to the standard. The big differences between the 2019 standard and the 2022-61 was the 61 has vintage tuners, slightly different neck shape, rod cover with no SG logo, 61 burst-buckers, hand wired electronics, different guard, nickel hardware, ABR bridge, neck joint at the 22nd fret and a hard shell case vs gig bag. For me these features are great. Both guitars I own and both are great however I do prefer the 61 vs the standard. For the extra few bucks I would recommend the 61.

This Gibson '61 SG model surprised me. Bought mine last year and is one of my favourite guitars I have owned over the years. The parts and build are solid. Compared to other SG's I've tried, the '61 burstbucker pickups have a very nice clear airy tone and sounds awesome with high gain . Straight up hard rock machine.

The SG is synonymous with Rock. It is simply iconic. This did not disappoint. Those humbuckers are just incredible. The neck in particular just has such a warm growl. Another tip of the hat to Andre and his team at L&M in Laval. The first SG came in with a gouged fretboard right out of the box. Within a week I was picking up this legend set up and ready to go. Love the neck and access to the entire fretboard. Light weight is making me not feel like I am not missing out on a Les Paul

I bought the "b-stock" SG that was listed here at a slight discount. It was the only one in stock. There is a small halo in the finish around the bottom strap button - that's it! The rest of the guitar is more perfect than my other 3 "a-stock" Gibsons - (including a 2018 SG I bought new which came with the logo 1/4 off centre on the head and two non-working tuners among other things). It's a beautiful guitar. Excellent job on the mirror like finish. Perfect job on cutting the rolled binding. The neck is right between my 97 LP special and my '18 SG special. It's not a butter knife. It's perfect. The finish on the neck feels good. My last gloss nitro gibson took 10 years to feel good. This one feels good on day one. What makes this different from the standards? Not a whole lot. One big thing that stands out is the neck join. The standards are smooth while the '61 has about 1/8 inch lips on the body at the neck join. Some other things like the pearl tuners and slotted pickup height screw. The back plastic service plate is smooth instead of grainy anti-static like newer models. (no static detected). I love that it doesn't have PCB and instead has good old point to point wiring which makes it easy to change parts and wiring layout. The '61 buckers it comes with sound ok. The bridge is good with some bite, but not saturated. Lots of dynamic range and top end. The neck pickup acts like it's got a band cut on the top end - I still have to sort that one out. I'm used to p90s for the last 10 years or so. Conclusion : This Gibson is so much better than an SG I bought last year under previous management that faith in Gibson is restored. I love it to death and I love L&M for bringing me such wonderful toys over my life time.

I got this guitar unseen due the covid19 and was kinda nervous about ordering a guitar without taking it for a test drive first. To say the least I was blown away with it , the 61’ pickups sound great ! The bridge is a rock machine and the neck is super smooth. The pots control is super responsive at 10 it rocks at 8 it mellows even with full distortion it cleans up nicely. It stays in tune unbelievably well and I’ve not had to do any adjustments to the guitar at all !!! Gibson has done an awesome job with the 2020 line of all their guitars !!! If your an SG fan you won’t be disappointed!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
