Description

This pair of full-size OEM humbucker pickup rings is made from ABS plastic, and are the same specs as the rings found on Gibson's historical vintage guitars of the 1950s. The neck pickup ring accurately measures 1/4", and the bridge measures 1/2".

Includes the mounting screws, and available only in creme color.

Q & A

Question: I recently heard that the larger (historic) pick up rings enhance the tone of the pick ups as opposed to the smaller sized modern ones. Is there a general consensus on that one way or the other? Like if I was trying to reproduce the sound of a '59 LP would not having the vintage sized pick up rings be a hindrance to achieving the sought after sound?

Answer: This is a contentious question, as opinion is divided, though I can say that plastic pickup rings will not change the sound of the pickups.

Metal rings can enhance the pickup tone, especially at higher gain levels, adding some magnetic induction.

Plastic rings are nonconductive and will not have this effect.

Answer: The tonal effect was said to be due to the height of the pick up rings not the material they were made of. The Historics are a 1/4" and 1/2 " whereas moderns one's are substantially smaller.

Of course, lifting the pickups will alter the tone, getting them closer to the strings.
