The Fly Rig 5 v2 retains the same SansAmp heart, Plexi/Cali distortion and Delay, but adds a few twists and turns within these sections. New features include an independent reverb with choice of room size, an effect loop, a tuner, and an XLR Output.

SANSAMP
Has the tonality of the Blonde Character Series pedal. It includes 3-band active EQ, Level and Drive controls. To dirty things up, you have the flexibility of using the Drive control, the Boost function, or you can add grit from the Plexi/Cali section. Or all three. Each method achieves different tones.

PLEXI / CALI
Provides the dirtier side of the Fly Rig. You have a choice of a roaring Plexi tone with its muscular crunch, detailed mids and mule-kick low end or the chunk of a '70s high gain amp tone inspired by the then-boutique shop over on the West Coast. Each mode can be dialed in to your liking with dedicated Drive, Tone and Level controls.

BOOST
Switchable Pre/Post Boost up to approx 12dB to beef up drive and distortion or increase the overall volume to punch up fills and solos.

DELAY WITH TAP TEMPO
Voiced for the sounds of a vintage tape echo, with Time and Repeats controls. The Delay includes a switch to change from 1/4-notes to dotted 8ths. A Drift button adds a random, unpredictable element to the modulation in keeping with its vintage roots.

REVERB
Independent footswitchable reverb with choice of large and small "room sizes."

EFFECT LOOP
Post-SansAmp, pre-effects to patch in external effect pedals.

TUNER
Chromatic Tuner, operable via the BLONDE/TUNER footswitch. You simply hold the footswitch down to engage, which simultaneously mutes the signal path.

Additional Features
• 1/4-inch 1megOhm input
• XLR output with ground lift
• 1/4-inch low impedance output
• Rugged, all-metal housing
• Metal footswitches and jacks
• Silent-switching, custom footswitch actuators
• Measures 12.5"l x 2.5"w x 1.25"h
• Weight: 20.7 oz.
• Utilizes included 9V DC Universal Power Supply: Model #DC9.

I haven’t tried everything but I’ve tried a lot of stuff. This is probably the best non-amp sound that I’ve experienced. Of course it’s not perfect but nothing ever is for me. I kind of overlooked tech 21 because it’s been around so long. I bought their first pedal Wayback when and used it a lot. It ticks a lot of boxes, especially if you want to play without an amp. I must say that into my small fender tube amp it sounds really good too. I have also put the extremely finicky Mary Kay fuzz pedal in front of it and it sounds really good. It may be a tiny bit expensive, but I think it has some serious staying power.

Over the years (decades, really) I went through a number of modelers including a few tube amps and most recently I use the Helix. I love the tube sounds but I find them extremely heavy, expensive and most of all WAY TOO LOUD. Prohibitively loud. My Helix which I use with a 4x12 cab (through an external power amp) sounds great even at low volumes but I found myself hating having millions of settings and options, and in the end, I would end up using only a clean channel and an overdrive channel 99% of the times. The rest is just in the way. In my search of minimalism and therefore minimalist guitar equipment that I could own and be happy with, gear that I could take with me anywhere, this came up and I'm so glad I pulled the trigger on it. It blew me away the moment I saw it in person. I hooked it up to my home theatre receiver via a 1/4" male to RCA connector and it sounded amazing (5.1 Sony system). At this point I'm so happy with the sound I think I'll put the 4x12 cab on sale too. Gotta minimize haha. I was going to get the Gen 1 of this device because it sounded great and was cheaper but I demanded the tuner feature which this has, and combined with some other improvements I think the Gen 2 is worth it if you don't want any other guitar pedals than this. Even if you do want other pedals, you will find an effects loop here so that is another improvement over the Gen 1. The build quality is second to none, all metal fabrication, made in USA (except the power adapter, which accepts 120 to 240V and comes with world adapters so you can literally use this all over the world), it comes in a sweet tin can box, super giftable and collectible. Again, compared to the Helix I wouldn't say this sounds better or worse, it's pretty much alike. I would say what I like about this is it sounds amazing straight from the first start, it doesn't need tweaking for hours to get a nice sound like the Helix does. It's much more like a tube amp in that respect where it sounds great in any setting I find. It does all I need, nothing more, nothing less, all in a super portable form factor. This is EXACTLY what I needed and if I could design a processor to my specs, this would be it exactly. If you're a simple player that just wants a good clean and a good overdrive, with a basic reverb, delay and boost features, in a highly portable device, then look no further. You've found your thing!

Very versatile and compact unit with a Sansamp pre-amp section and a number of effects including delay and reverb. XLR out is handy and sounds reasonably good direct to board or powered monitor. Wish it allowed for more control over modulation effects, but this can easily be remedied with added pedal in built-in effects loop. Overdrive sounds decent, but you will probably want an added distortion pedal (and Wah) in front if you desire really heavy sounds.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
