YSM6 Nearfield Powered Studio Reference Monitor (Single)

Limited stock available in select stores only 5 Available through Gear Hunter from $179
Contoured MDF baffle housing the high quality custom soft dome tweeters and low frequency woofers used in the new YSM Series monitors are designed to minimize reflections improving phase response and providing a wider sweet spot in the listening position. Front facing ports used in the YSM Series monitor design solve the issues of bass coupling with back walls and corners which general false low frequency information in your mix, a common issue with competitive monitors that choose to use rear firing ports.
Compatible with virtually any source Yorkville YSM Series monitors have a widely variable input trim control for the balanced XLR / 1/4-inch combi-jack input capable of handling level from everything from computer soundcard and mixer outs. Four position high and low frequency trim controls (at -2, -1, 0 and +1.5dB) allow user adjustable EQ contour to compensate for speaker placement in less than perfect listening spaces.
Rock-solid 3/4-inch MDF cabinet construction with heavy internal bracing and ample internal dampening material reduces unwanted low frequency rumble ensures Yorkville YSM Series cabinets reproduce source material with near pinpoint accuracy and detail.

Amp simulator sounds good now 3 of 3 customers found this review helpful

This is all over now. Preset patches now sound great without having to make any adjustments, thanks to the studio monitors. I did not think they would make such a difference, was I wrong.
I have no comparison to other models, but for now rate those highly, they look good, sound great and seem to be well made. Added a lot of value to my rig.

- I love that they have High and Low Frequency adjustments, very helpful especially being in a less than ideal space. The manual gives tips on how to adjust based on if there in corners or against a wall beaide the monitors!
Also , if lets say you have them fine tuned roughly, you can do some mixes and if you find they are translating on the side of to trebly , you could go back and turn the treble up 1 or until you feel its translating more evenly!
- My mixes always translate very well on everyt source I play them on.
-Great low end response, not sluggish or muddy, a tad hyped , maybe
0.5-1db in the lows around 60-140HZ but I account that to the front loaded woofers. Any speaker with front loaded woofers is usually going to be a tad hyped! Again, back to knowing YOUR monitors, it's not so much of a problem as long as you know thats how they are and you take it into account! Since were on the subject of frequency , there is a very slight dip in the low mids , maybe 0.5 db somewhere between 250-600hz. But very slight. Nothing like another brannd(KoughRK) that are super attenuated in the low mids!
- the High end is very smooth and clear, never harsh. I can go pretty long without ear fatigue! If anything , they leave something to be desired past 15K.
- Can mix without a sub although they leave abit to be desired in detail below 45HZ.
Final Thought's- Can't go wrong with these. Very Flat conpared to other monitors that are much more hyped in the High's or Low's. The high and low adjust are a huge factor in why these work well! If you're spending $400-800 for a pair , forget it , these are it! But no, I know monitors are subjective but these have done an amazing job for me!!! These actually have a place in my heart and have helped see me off at the beginning of my jorney. Next exit- Barefoots or PMC's.???

Long version- Review posted after 2 years of ownership. Added a pair of YSM8?s one year later, and a sub hooked up to Scarlett 18i20 for 4.1 sorround sound. When I play guitar through this (and Kemper + Art pro-Mpa II) frankly it sounds better than studio albums!
When I was in the store I tried out all the monitors in the under $500 price range and Yorkville sounded the best. 6? sounded punchier on bass, 8?sounded heavier. Eventually I got both but 6? best to start. I have a bedroom studio, with 6 and 8 string guitars and bass and I find this set up works great in terms of sound and apartment neighbour friendly.
If I were to play live, all I gotta do is play in the mixer direct and sub-in PA?s instead of studio monitors. My story is odd-ball perhaps, but these are unconventional times :) I cant see going back to a conventional combo amp after this, and they great for mixing afterwards. Plus, they sound the best and yet are in the affordable range (YSM6, YSM8) for hobbyist musicians
After 2 years, I can still say highly recommended!

Great! Best monitors for the price 2 of 3 customers found this review helpful

Beware, you won't want to listen to audio on anything else. Your iPod dock, car stereo, surround sound system, etc., will sound so muffled and muddy compared to the clarity in these.
All-in-all, a great buy! I don't regret them a single bit, and have no complaints AT ALL.
[Shale @ the Victoria, BC store was a great help in choosing them too]

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty
A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.
Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.
How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
- Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
- Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
- No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
- Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
- Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
- Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
- Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
- Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
- Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.
Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.
Purchasing additional years of coverage
Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.
If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:
- NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
- USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
- GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
- BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
