The Traynor YGL1 15-watt all-tube 1x12 combo is the ideal 'tone monster' combo for stage and studio.
Easy to Find Your Sound
Simple Gain, Bass, Mid, Treble and Master controls make it easy to dial in that perfect tube sound. The three-stage mode switch makes the YGL1 one of the most versatile small combos in this class.
USA / Brit / Pure Modes
The mode switch relocates the tone stack relative to the gain stage, giving the YGL1 either a crisp 'American' style tube amp tone for clarity and definition (USA mode) or a grittier, more 'spongy' 'British' flavor associated with the great UK amps of the 60s and 70s ( Brit mode).
The third option is a "Pure" mode which bypasses the tone stack entirely, delivering a mid and overall gain boost allowing for the most direct signal path possible between your fingers and the speaker.
Built for Reliability
The Traynor YGL1 is made in Canada combo is made in Canada using solid plywood cabinet construction, a single Celestion Greenback speaker, heavy gauge steel chassis, high quality pots and jacks and is covered by Yorkville Sound's two-year unlimited warranty*.

All three EQ profiles (USA, PURE, and Brit) are instantly playable and instantly distinctive. The USA mode is a fav of mine and delivers chime and tasty string dynamics that belie that there are EL84s in the power section of the amp.
The three-band EQ is well-voiced with all points on the dial bringing something useful. Some people have commented that there is not enough bottom-end, but for my money the bass tones of this amp are beautifully articulate while still providing bottom-end punch. No tubby bass. Looking forward to seeing how the Celestion Greenback breaks in over time.
I would definitely put this amp in the zone with a Fender Deluxe Reverb for its ability to be a soundstage for superior rock, country and blues tones. Okay, no tremolo or spring reverb, but for quality of guitar tone, it has it in spades. And besides, the amp takes pedals VERY well, transparently blending them into the circuit as if they were built-in -- something the Fender Bassbreaker 15 that I sold to buy this amp did not do well, IMHO.
Finally, the amp is QUIET (so far at least). I play an American '52 re-issue Tele, and this amp makes the single coil PUs nearly buzzless. This was astounding after years of plugging into Fender amps only to have the guitar buzz like a cheap radio when not playing it. I sometimes even forget that I have left the guitar volume up when not playing.
There's more to say, but all in all, this is an amp to check out. Boutique tones in a strong, humble Canadian plywood box. I'm very pleased to have found my way to the Traynor YGL-1.

The greenback speaker is a perfect match.
I play primarily electric at our church and love the headroom it has.
Great chime to it. Super versatile with the selector switch.
If you are in the market for a Blues Jr, AC15 or Princeton....do yourself a favour and try this out first.

I have been using the amp with the volume up, gain low, and the pre amp set to the bypass position. It's working well now, sounds good and is plenty loud.
Traynor YGL1 Remarkable 35 pound Combo 4 of 5 customers found this review helpful

I had been looking for something that was easy to carry to Jam sessions(my 70 pound Crate combo has gotten just too much to drag around ;)
In the final running was the Traynor YGL1 and The New Fender Bassbreaker 15W 1x12 Tube Combo Amp.
Both great sounding small Tube combos.
I found the Traynor just seemed to a have a much bigger, warmer sound to it.
It has the lovely Chime.
When you add an extension cabinet it brings out a little more of the rich sound, but you can quickly find the limit of its 15 watts.
On own It's loud enough to play along with a session of Drums,Bass and Guitar.
I wish it had a little more bottom end and a vibrato effect.
At 35 pounds and it's price point it's remarkable.
The Belton Digi-Log Reverb sounds great.
The USA / Brit / Pure Modes is a nice idea, but it sounds so much better on the
Pure mode which bypasses the tone stack entirely, delivering a mid and overall gain boost.
Not a huge Pedal guy so I can't comment on using them.
Some reviewers mentioned the 12AX7's that come with the amp.
I think there using a better version of the
Sovtek 12AX7's now.
I did try some other lower gain Svetlana12AX7's,but lost some of the Chime.
I think you really need High Gain 12AX7's,
check with the tubestore if you want to make this amp sound even better.
There is no doubt that different Tubes make for change in the over all tone.
It's a well made solid combo that you will love to play.

Features well its pretty basic but does offer an effects loop which is a nice touch on an amp of this price point. Also the different modes (pure brit and USA) are also kinda cool. I would have given it a ten if it had real reverb instead of digital although the digital is pretty good.
Quality well the cabinet is well built and they didn't cheap out on particle board but reliability has been a big issue for me. More on that later.
Value if it was more reliable then the value would be exceptional. My amp is about to go in for repairs and this is the second unit in 6 months to die unexpectedly. We'll see how Traynor handles the repair but I do have to say that the warranty is very good and the along and Mcquade is great to deal with as well.
Overall, well I was tired of lugging around my Twin and my Deville so the the thought of a small combo really appealed to me.
I rented the YGL1 and fell in love with the tone I could pull from it. It actually sounded a lot better than my Deville.
After renting it for about a month I decided to buy one. I bought the Tan limited edition and brought it home. Plugged it in and NOTHING. Not a sound came from the amp!!!
SO I took it back and Long and McQuade swapped it for a new one. I had that for about six months then at a gig last night I turned it on and NOTHING!!! Not a freak'n note! Right before a gig and I didn't have a spare.
So I'm pretty skeptical about the Traynor reliability on this particular amp. Though I love the tone you might find mine for sale on Kijiji soon enough. I can't afford to have amps die on me every six months. If I had it to do again I would find an old YGM3 and buy that for about the same price I paid for the YGL1. Its old but those were the days when they did build them like tanks. Hand wired point to point. I bought the newer YGL1 because I was worried an old YGM3 would not be reliable. LOL. Oh well. HInd sight is 20/20. It seems like most of the reviewers have had better experiences then me so perhaps I'm just getting lucky here. Either that or I am lugging this amo around more than they are and maybe it doesn't handle moving around well. Though I do take care not to bump it or damage it because it is the limited edition. Maybe I should go buy a lottery ticket? Anyhow the tone is exceptional and thank god for the two year warranty!

I phoned the Tube Store for a replacement set of tubes , kept the JJ EL84 but changed out the 12ax7 Sovteks to TUNG-SOL, and :What A Difference IN The Sound, in every way, for 30.00 it is a worthwhile mod.
Its the Tubes Dude 1 of 2 customers found this review helpful

Phoned the Tube Store in TO to get a spare set of tubes, "they automatically upgraded me to the TUNG_SOL 12ax7, and wow.
The JJ El84 are good tubes, however the TS tube compared to what came in amp, was no contest as far as preamp tubes. For 30.00
you can really kick this amp up a notch.

This amp needs nothing other than the guitar plugged into it. It is very warm, lots of clean head room, and turning up the gain can give a really nice slightly over-driven organic tone. The master volume is very responsive allowing you to really play at bedroom levels and still maitian a rich warm tone.
The Belton digital reverb is one of the most surprising features of the amp. I am a spring reverb addict, but the verb on this amp is as close as it gets. This amp will become a studio work horse for me as well as some live performing settings.
The US / pure / brit switch really changes things up, with the pure setting bypassing the eq. section for the purest signal possible.
This amp is definitely boutique sound and quality for less than half the price.
Try the amp and let your ears make the decision for you.

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty
A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.
Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.
How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
- Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
- Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
- No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
- Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
- Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
- Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
- Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
- Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
- Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.
Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.
Purchasing additional years of coverage
Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.
If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:
- NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
- USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
- GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
- BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
