I've played Guild and Ibanez religiously for many years but decided to try this guitar and I am absolutely blown away how great this guitar is. The guitar sounds absolutely fantastic and is a joy to play. The beveled edge makes it very comfortable and it sounds like a guitar they should cost more than it does. My only issue is that the built-in tuner is not very accurate. Problem is solved with a clip-on tuner. If you like finger style playing and you don't want to spend a fortune, try this one. You won't regret it.

I’ve owned this guitar for 3 years and will never feel I need another. It plays like silk and sounds so good. The slightly smaller neck is great for someone with smaller fingers. Everyone I’ve let try it out wants one. Sounds great amplified also. I’ve used it in recordings and it sounds amazing. Stays in tune like no other guitar I’ve had.
I’d encourage anyone to test drive a Taylor Academy.

This is the guitar I had wanted for a long time. However, because of the higher price compared to other entry level guitars, I waited until I felt like my playing ability justified it. Well, I caved in for my birthday, and now I wish I would have just done it earlier. What a wonderful instrument that is a joy to play.

I have to say as a mostly electric guitars I have not spent a ton of time playing acoustic……until now. The layout of this guitar is so comfortable and easy to play. The sound is like something similar to a 3-4K guitar.

I bought the academy 12 back in July 2020 and it has consistently impressed me since. I love the Taylor sound, quality and playability. I definitely recommend this guitar for beginners and pros alike.

This entry level Taylor should be everyone's starting/ending guitar if the price can be managed. In terms of sound, it is amazing! The bass notes at times have trouble sustaining (when fingerpicking), but nothing I wouldn't expect from the smaller body. Besides the great sound, this guitar shines with the quality of other parts in particular. The tuning pegs especially. I never knew how lucky I was to have picked this guitar until tuning many other guitars. I find myself afraid of how stiff other pegs are and when they make resistive sounds unlike these Taylor pegs. The threading also allows for very controlled fine tuning. The built in tuner is godsent and super easy to use and in key (probably the most accurate tuner since it's sampling from inside the guitar and maybe from the pickup itself anyway). It's also much more convenient than any phone/separate tuner. The action on the guitar is perfect as well, and the arm rest is also a super nice addition. The back neck is smooth and fast, I've been playing for 6 months and no guck has built up on the finish slowing me down. Other new guitars I've found the back neck finish is a little "sticky". At 1000 after tax I think this guitar is a steal and look forward to playing it for years. I will only upgrade if I can some 2-4k guitar in the future with better sound sustain like the new V-braced Taylor's. 10/10 P.S. I'm sure this review holds for the academy 10e as well if you want a larger body. I'm sure the bass will sustain better but I prefer the concert 12 size for the scale length (shorter fingers).

This is probably the 7th or 8th acoustic guitar I've owned, and it has impressed me very much. It is quite possibly the most comfortable acoustic I've every played. Pair that with great tone, value, and a nice gig bag to boot! If you're looking for a relatively inexpensive daily driver, I can't recommend this guitar enough.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
