We study methods and etudes from the 18th and 19th centuries to facilitate playing the music of the 18th and 19th centuries. As a teacher, Hand wrote his Five Studies for Guitar Solo, in order to help his students in performance of current and contemporary music. To be sure, each of the studies presents challenges in different techniques, but all five are also excellent stand-alone pieces.
