Modern Player Jaguar Bass - Black
This product is no longer available.
Throughout its history, Fender has always made a special point of welcoming new players to the family by offering entry-level instruments of remarkable style and substance (such as the Duo-Sonic, Mustang and Musicmaster models), with great sound, classic looks, solid performance and eminent affordability. The Modern Player series continues that great my-first-Fender tradition, with thoroughly modern features and several distinctively unconventional new takes on our most revered instruments-all with outstandingly attainable value.

The Modern Player Jaguar Bass presents a lean, mean and stripped-down version of the ultra-sleek bass model, with a powerful P/J configuration-a Modern Player Precision Bass middle pickup and Modern Player Jazz Bass bridge pickup-and streamlined control configuration. Features include a koto body, C-shaped maple neck, maple fretboard with 9.5 radius and 20 jumbo frets, three-ply parchment pickguard, three Jazz Bass control knobs (middle volume, bridge volume, master tone), vintage-style four-saddle bridge with brass saddles, open-gear tuners and nickel/chrome hardware. I picked up one of these in 2014 and was blown away at how good it sounded out of the box. So much so, that I've been on the hunt for more of them and recently scored a second one. This bass has a super glossy, vintage-looking neck with block inlays which is not only gorgeous but super fast to play. No dead spots, frets were in good condition and the tuners locked-in the notes. The body has some good weight to it and it holds notes forever. Way better than the modern Jaguar Basses we are being sold today for over double the original price. The pickups sounded great but let me tell you, once I threw a set of Quarter Pound duncans in there, this bass knocked everything out of the park. I would easily pay over $1500 to get another one of these. The new Jaguar basses don't have the style or the build quality that these ones, which were only made for one year, had. Pick one up if you can find it.

I've played many basses at all price points, read good things about this bass and was looking for a P/J style. This bass delivers in spades. Great set up from the factory, beautiful fret finish. Comfortable and great tones that can be infinitely blended to suit your taste. Gonna buy another one for drop tuning

I got this bass a few months ago and it never ceases to amaze me in terms of how it can do anything. Slap n popping and finger tapping are a dream on this bass. With the P and J pickups it makes it easy to have a beautiful tone for any style. Some might want more vintage or hotter pickups but I happen to like the stock pickups a lot, they're kind of in the middle between vintage and hot to my ear. The neck is absolutely gorgeous and a dream to play on. I wouldn't mind extra switches like on jaguar guitars or a 3 way switch but then this guitar would probably cost a few hundred more and I don't really need any of that extra stuff for bass. I made a video of me bringing it home and plugging it in for anyone interested in getting one. (Some coarse language) http://www.youtube.com/watch'v=Ny8Wkgc9qks Thanks Fender! Cheers!

I think this bass guitar is the best bang for the buck going. The sound is rich and bright, with lots of punch. I think this is a work horse guitar that will deliver the goods for most types of players.

I was a bit weary about ordering one before I could play it - as we know, some basses from the same line can be just DEAD. But fortunately, I got an instrument that was so well set-up that as soon as I tuned it up (was dropped a whole two steps for shipping - as anyone transporting a guitar or bass should do) I didn't even have to adjust the truss rod. I used to be a Made in USA purist as far as Fender went, and this bass completely shattered the myth that anything else was sub-standard. Sounds great, the electronics are dead silent (only the slightest hum when you isolate the J pickup - a lot less than I expected), and not a buzz on this thing. I put a 9/10 for features because I would have liked it to have a 3-way switch as well, but seeing as I rarely dial back the tone knob, I just took it out and put a switch in anyway. Bottom line? This so far exceeds the price in terms of quality, for an "Entry-Level Instrument" this is not.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
