Wave Sequencing 2.0
With the Wavestation, each step of a Wave Sequence had a duration, a sample, and a pitch. This created ear-catching patterns - but the patterns repeated the same way, over and over. What if they could evolve in organic, unexpected ways, instead of just repeating?

Wave Sequencing 2.0 splits apart the timing, the sequence of samples, and the melody, so that each can be manipulated independently. Also added are new characteristics including shapes, gate times, and step sequencer values. Each of these is a "Lane," and each Lane can have a different number of steps and its own start, end, and loop points.

Every time the sequence moves forward, the individual Lanes are combined to create the output. For instance, a sample may be matched with a different duration, pitch, shape, gate length, and step sequence value every time that it plays. You can modulate each Lane's start, end, and loop points separately for every note, using velocity, LFOs, envelopes, Mod knobs, or other controllers. Each note in a chord can be playing something different!

Lanes can also randomize the step order every time they play, with realtime control over the range of included steps. Finally, individual steps can be randomly skipped, with a modulatable probability from 0 to 100%. The result is organic, ever-changing sounds that respond to your control. The four onboard arpeggiators can interact with Wave Sequences for even more possibilities.

Easily expressive. Exceptionally deep.
Bursting with knobs and controllers, the wavestate invites you to explore. All of the basics - filter, envelopes, LFOs, effects - are at your fingertips with dedicated front-panel controls. Eight programmable Mod Knobs are customized to bring out the most in every sound, often taking them in entirely new directions. Use the knobs in realtime performance, and also save the results as new sounds. Add in the Pitch Bend and Modulation Wheels and the unique Vector Joystick, and you'll always have multiple dimensions of realtime expression.

Free bundle of music software
The wavestate comes with a diverse variety of music software from Izotope including "Ozone Elements" which lets you not only create songs but also master them using AI, "Skoove" which will help you improve your keyboard playing skills, "Reason Lite" DAW software, as well as software synths from KORG and other brands.

make sure you upgrade to those Ultimate Patches. The factory presets were "ok" but now my synth is my go-to synth in the studio after the upgrade.

If I'm honest, it had been a long time since followed Korg's product offering as closely as others. I came across Wavestate on L&M website and started researching it a little more. Turns out this very inspiring instrument is exactly what I was looking for. I enjoy many genres of music and this fits with all the styles I work within. It can be super simple and play classic sounds. You can import 3rd party multisample instruments and use them within the Wavestate. You can control each of the 4 layers via an external midi sequencer / controller and get real crazy. It can be immediate or you can spend hours getting lost in building a patch from the INIT Performance. The UI takes a little familiarizing and there is menu diving. I can't see the level of depth without menus so I'm good with it. Once that is out of the way, it feels intuitive and well laid out. I often get bored with a device quickly. This synth can go deep and that will keep my interest for quite some time. I'm so impressed with Wavestate, I'm now investigating the Modwave and OpSix.

I have had my Wavestate for about 8 months and I am still learning all its intricacies. Despite that, so much of it is accessible from Day 1, and you can very easily create all the bread and butter sounds you'll ever need, if they're not already in the vast amount of presets. The hands on nature of this instrument is a big deal, considering how deep it is. I have composed many pieces starting with ideas sketched in this synth, just the timbral qualities alone are enough to get ideas flowing. It's small enough to fit on my desk, light enough to take wherever, and is built pretty well considering its weight. If I was just starting out and looking for a good starter synth, this would be great, though it's just as useful to me as someone with many years of synth experience. If I had any complaints, it would be the quality of the keybed, but it's pretty manageable considering the price (and at least the keys are full size!) If you get one of these, try assigning the speed macro at max value on the timing lane. You can turn a drum loop into a drone, or do weird granular things with random step order at high speeds, with hands on control!

MicroFreak is close to my favourite...but for its March 2020 price, $929, the Wavestate is an incredible instrument. I ordered it sight unseen, as is so often required when my favourite music store doesn't stock enough synths...lol. ...but the reviews and videos were very enthusiastic, and it hasn't disappointed. It has a complexity of sound unlike anything else on the market, although Kronos comes close, for 4 times the price. But for under a grand this is an awesome unit. Yes it does "standard" patches like leads and pads and basses, even piano (organ not so much), but its specialty is complex soundscapes like film soundtracks etc...long evolving pads often with a rhythmic aspect, but not just drums. That makes it a perfect partner for a drum machine or groovebox. I do wish it had 5 octaves, and aftertouch, but then it would be twice the price for sure. It is an instant inspiration for composing big huge and sinister synth washes...which can be tweaked insanely, really quite random, but always musical. It always SOUNDS like I know what I'm doing! This is a great synth for players that are still developing their keyboard chops as well...I promise if you show up to an audition/rehearsal with this thing, plug it into the PA, you don't have be a keyboard wizard to drop a few jaws! 5 stars all around, my first perfect score.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
