Easy to Operate
You can dial in the right amount of compression using the dedicated ATTACK and SUSTAIN dials. The LEVEL control allows you to set the output to subtle, or engage a monster volume boost. TONE lets you add exactly the right level of highs.
From clean, snappy country leads to rock solos that scream for eons, the CS400 is built to make your sound the center of attention. Its LED tells you when it's on and the top-quality on/off switch maintains outstanding signal integrity in bypass mode. Most compressors are generally transparent, although some do add some colour to the signal. This Behringer CS400 is a clone of the widely popular Boss Compressor Sustainer with the same knob configuration and circuit topology, which is quite transparent for individual guitar tones. I use a compressor at the beginning of my signal chain lightly to smooth out pick attack and for a little more sustain. Subtle use one might say. So this inexpensive pedal is perfect for me. I'm not turning off and on all the time. It does the job beautifully, and I saved some money. Win/Win.

Used this with a CS9 Limiter to learn signal chain balance alongside pick attack with pickup height.
And here's the thing for me, dialing in taught me actual kinesthetic control we're told we can use to not need compression.
So under $100 to learn applicable skills... A pedal or 2 CAN make a better player.
As I said dialing in; learning how the hear when the compressors do their thing & when to want them to happen.
It sets GUIDELINES on pick attack techniques & is sooooo helpful for those flutey vibrato accents.

awesome. you're an idiot for buying a compressor that is more expensive. If colouring your tone is your game, this ain't the pedal for 'ya.
