Ideal for classrooms or students on a budget, this instrument (available in the key of "C") sounds identical to the original bamboo instruments, retaining all of their richness and versatility.
They have the same learning curve as a saxophone, the mouthpiece is large and round, the fingering is different from anything you already know, and some may even be priced out of your league. But if you're an independent thinker who can appreciate a truly unique and original instrument, the Xaphoon will become one of your most treasured belongings!
Just imagine... joy, spiritual expression, contentment, and meeting new people... all for the price of a good saxophone mouthpiece!
Uses tenor saxophone reeds.

I am new to reed instruments so it did take a little time to get decent sounds. It is easy to learn new melodies on and has a great tone, which makes it pretty fun to play from the get-go. Check out the product website for its history...really interesting.

My mom got me this little sax as an early Xmas gift and we've been inseparable ever since! She's so tiny but makes a huge, rich sound! I've dreamed about getting a sax since I was little so my mom got me her and she sounds like a full-sized saxophone! I was so happy/excited to get her that I ran out of L&M before my mom could even finish paying for her (don't worry, she is payed for lol) I highly recommend this little joy maker! :)

Pros:
- Great sounding instrument;
- Fun to play once you get used to the fingering;
- Not to difficult to play;
- The reed is a nice one.
Cons:
- A bit pricy for a plastic instrument;
- Very different fingering takes some time to get used to and may cramp your fingers at first;
- Reed is a nice one but should be changed out for a synthetic reed for better playing.
Over all awesome instrument but if you have a bit extra money you should order the Bamboo Xaphoon he makes off of his web site, it sounds a lot more nice and natural.

I Play sax and cannot get on with xaphoon at all, the finger spacing is really awkward. Try one before you buy to see if it fits your hands.
Mine is going on Kijiji

The quality is very good for a plastic instrument, it sounds great but in my opinion the bamboo Xaphoon has a more rich sound. The value is very good, I think mine came up to $90 total could have been a little cheaper but I'm not complaining. Overall it's a great instrument and I like how it's small and I can take it everywhere and it's weather resistant as well. If your thinking of getting one I recommend you go for it and make those Sax players envious.

I stumbled onto the Xaphoon while looking through the website and curiosity got the best of me. Listened to some people play it on YouTube and it sounded amazing, so I bought one as an early Christmas present to myself. I used to play the recorder and I now play the tin whistle but I have never played a reed instrument. It is a little difficult to get a sound at first, but it feels great when you do get a crisp sound. Even my little ones are curious and I foresee many years of fun using this.

Bought this out of curiosity.....thinking for this price it couldn't/wouldn't play or sound like a sax.....well I was surprised, it honks along very well and really is easy to take anywhere with you.While having lunch on the rocks at Hutch"s a couple guys came down to where I was one had a Cajon the other an acoustic guitar... Well for the 40 minutes or so we rocked the water front....this is a must buy.....for the cost of a large pizza and a 12 pack you could own it....great deal!!

Its great for sax players. I take mine everywhere. I drive for a living. every time I stop I pull it out and play it. I can play it in my truck where my tenor is way too cumbersome. Love it
