Combining ten inputs, ten outputs, and eight VS PREAMPS with transparent 24-bit/192 kHz audio quality, the Roland OCTA-CAPTURE sets a new standard for portable USB 2.0 audio interfaces. High-level audio production is made possible with this fusion of premium components, Roland-quality engineering, and proprietary preamp and streaming technology. OCTA-CAPTURE is not only a great interface for multi-channel computer-based production, but also a perfect solution for expanding the I/O capability of the V-STUDIO 700 and V-STUDIO 100.

Eight Premium Mic Preamps
OCTA-CAPTURE boasts eight premium-grade digitally controlled mic preamps (VS PREAMPS), built with the same high-grade components as the preamps in the V-STUDIO 700 and M-400 V-Mixer. Eight XLR inputs are provided for the preamps, plus independent phantom power, low-cut filter, phase invert, and digital compression for each channel.

Auto Input Level Adjustment
Simply activate the AUTO-SENS feature with the push of a button, play your connected instruments, and OCTA-CAPTURE automatically sets the ideal recording level for each input. It's great for quick, fail-safe audio capture when recording either a fully mic'd drum kit or an entire band.

Extreme Low-Latency Driver
OCTA-CAPTURE offers stability and industry-leading low-latency USB performance via Roland's proprietary VS STREAMING technology. All current Mac and PC DAW platforms are supported through ASIO 2.0/WDM (Windows) and Core Audio (Mac) drivers. Thanks to VS STREAMING, you can use multiple devices (two OCTA-CAPTURE units or one OCTA-CAPTURE plus a V-STUDIO 100 or V-STUDIO 700) on the same USB bus without compromising stability, performance, or audio quality.

Four Flexible Monitor Mixes
OCTA-CAPTURE offers four independent Direct Mixers for creating software-controlled monitor mixes. Each mix can be routed to any of the analog outputs and can take advantage of the internal 40-bit DSP processing perfect for sending custom monitor mixes to headphones, speakers, or recording devices.

Features:
Eight premium mic preamps built in (VS PREAMP)
AUTO-SENS function intelligently sets optimal input levels for all preamps
Extremely stable low-latency VS STREAMING driver
Four independent software-controlled Direct Mixers for creating custom monitor mixes
Supports all major DAW platforms on Mac or PC, including OSX 10.6 and Windows 7, through ASIO 2.0/WDM (Windows) and Core Audio (Mac) drivers

Using this unit for 4 years now. Exceptional VS preamps and very clean until you push them to max. But with a good mic you won't need to do that number. Being able to use Auto Sens just puts you right into the sweet spot - no guessing. Also inputs 7 & 8 have higher headroom and are made to handle the extra output of drum kits. Overall - a quality built serious piece of kit with built in compressor that actually works quite well, taking the load of the computer. Each input has it or Bypass & 48 vdc - and 2 HiZ for guitars. Lots of outputs, and easy to set parameters using the VS software on the computer. Set the reverb for each input - 4 patch bays - the list goes on. No line inputs, but simply plug into the preamp and leave the gain at zero. Now it acts as a line input and adjust the gain signal from the other unit. Holds it own even in todays market. I use Reaper for the DAW.

Since getting this abot 3 months ago, its been a joy to use. the firmware, drivers, and interface has been so stable and havent had any problems with crashing, clicking, popping, dropouts! Its been solid! Its funny I have an early 2012 I5 laptop and with my last interface anything below 456 samples was a nightmare, Ive actually been ruuning between 128 and 256 no problem which is where I knew I should have been with my last interface but for whatever reason it was just super unstable and I had nothing but problems! This thing has tons of features, like on board compression and reverb! I probably wouldnt use the compression but maybe the reverb since my computer is so old! This is a very versatile interface, you have mixing software to set up headphone mixes etc, and enough ins and outs you could hook up some extra gear and mix through some analog gear! Just thought Id say my experience has been very positive with this!

Pre-amps sound good, AD/DA conversion sounds good, but not a fan of having one knob for gain and having to cycle through channels to adjust gain. I vastly prefer interfaces that one knob per channel. Overall I thought it was a decent interface until one day, after only 4 years of using the unit, it started freezing every computer I connected it to. It works at first, then the sound starts to cut in and out, then there's no sound, then my computer completely freezes and is unusable until I disconnect the interface and restart the computer. Happened both on Mac and PC. I went back to Long and Mcquades for assistance, and they informed me that they can't help with anything that's outside of the warranty. After that, I contacted Roland support directly and they told me that since I was outside of the United States, they can't help me, and re-directed me to Roland Canada's public forum with no access to customer service. Very disappointed in this purchase.

I have been an avid Roland/Boss user for many, many years, and needed to upgrade my interface. With so many options out there, I wasn't sure where to even start. Well, why not check out the company I have been so loyal to? Right out of the box, the preamps sound fantastic, the built in compressors actually WORK! On top of it all, the "auto-sens" feature, which I thought would be a silly little gimmick, gives you an excellent starting point, with very little tweaking necessary. I have been using this baby for over a year now, and have nothing but good things to say. Bravo Roland.

I got this used and it has completely changed the way my band records. We went from an hour setup plus a 25 minute sound/levels check, to 15 minutes total to get setup and start. The auto-sensitivity is great! It will auto-adjust the input volume levels for all your channels in no time. Simply plug in, hit the Auto-Sens button, play as loud as you'll get for a minute, and you're done! The sound quality is fantastic, and capturing each input to separate tracks in your DAW through one USB cable is priceless because you can achieve the perfect mix later, without worrying too much about how it all sounds in the room. Just play your hearts out and mix/master it later. I would consider the 16-input "Studio-Capture" if you can afford it, if you need to properly mic a full acoustic drumkit with 8 mics at the same time as a couple of guitars, vocals, bass, etc. If you want to get by with this unit, you could get away with one overheard mic, one for the kick and one for the snare and still have 5 inputs left for everything else. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to assign eat input to a separate track in GarageBand (click the "i" down near the amp settings and you'll see an input drop-down, by default set to "1 OCTA-CAPTURE", simply select which input you want for each track). Also, don't forget to right-click any track and enable "Show 'Record Enable' button" under "Track Header Components". Other than those minor GarageBand hurdles, I still have to learn how to use the outputs properly, but we've gotten by without them so far. Overall, you will not regret picking one of these up. Roland did it right.

Have to say that I'm very impressed with the quality of this interface! All around, it is GREAT sounding and a solid build! I often had my eyes on the MOTU for a long time, but did thorough research and came to a conclusion that this is all around better in everyway for the same price and offers a lot more! The only problem I had (which could just be due to not knowing how to properly configure it in the GUI) is how to control ALL outputs with the "MAIN OUT" knob. I basically have multiple monitors connected to this interface and almost had a heart attack when playing back some music. I instinctively attempted to turn down the volume with the MAIN OUT knob and still had the music BLARING. Figured out a flexible way to combat that issue but with a physical controller to control the second pair of monitors. Basically the MAIN OUT will only control outputs 1-2 and the headphones. Anyways, highly recommend it!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
