Super-Sonic amplifiers are the favorite tool of pro guitarists in many different musical genres who love to create glorious Fender clean tones and expressive modern high-gain tones with one no-nonsense tube amp. The Super-Sonic 22 Combo delivers this versatility with the organic feel and moderate output power of the legendary Deluxe Reverb amp, perfect for most stage and studio applications. The vintage channel delivers pure, unmistakable Fender tone, and the awesome burn channel ignites musical inspiration with overdrive flavors ranging from bluesy to flame-throwing. And while the Super-Sonic 22 is capable of heavily saturated tube distortion and sustain, it never masks the tonal character of your guitar.

The good reviews tell the truth. The one bad review does not take into account that the amp he tried could have been used and abused. Very rare that you get a lemon. Expect it once a decade if you live in the real world. Apart from that this amp sounds great, clean or dirty. It has the optimum power, two 6V6 tubes producing 22 glorious tube watts. I like the FAT mode in the clean channel. The normal mode is thin sounding but since you have the FAT option, the clean channel is a winner. The Burn Channel rocks with Bass, Mid and Treble controls and double gain controls to dial in the desired amount of overdrive. Remember that this amp has the same power structure as the Deluxe Reverb which means up to 5 clean volume-wise, above that differing levels of dirt but not louder. But a 22 watt tube amp can be loud enough when you are playing with drums. So at full clean at 5 it is loud, but not ridiculous like a Twin. The tubes are attached to the chassis, this is good and important. Some amps the tubes are connected to the circuit board, bad, beware. Also this amp is made in USA, Corona California. This amp is under rated. Performing as well as some amps at twice the price. As good as a Mesa Boogie Fillmore 50, two 6L6's. The Fillmore 50 has twice the clean power, that means 6db louder. I like the Supersonic 22 better than a Mesa Boogie California four 6V6 Tweed, which is twice the price. I use the Supersonic head version. I use a Mesa Boogie 1x12 closed back cab with a Celestion 90 speaker. I definitely like the head/cab format especially if you are going to use the Burn channel for overdrive. On the 22 you can use the effects loop as a boost if you get a decent boost pedal. My current favourite boost pedal is the Mesa Boogie Flux Five with Bass, Treble, Boost and 5 band EQ. You can dial in the boost pedal levels to match other footswitch level settings on the 22. The 4 button footswitch is a major plus of this amp for instant tone shaping/switching; Vintage/Burn, Normal/Fat, Spring Reverb, Effects Loop. I like to use the Boss RV-500 for a dozen glorious reverb types and the Boss DD-200 for a dozen glorious delay types. I have two Supersonics. One is new and one is 10 years old, still rocking after being rode hard and put away not wet but had the tubes glowing, gig after gig. Love that smell of the tolex and wood with the tubes radiating waves of blue orange heat. 10 years always responding, speakers with 10,000 hours of conditioning.

I've owned this amp for 2 years now and figured it's time to write a review. It takes some time to dial in your sound on the drive channel as the eq is extremely versatile - which is a good thing, but it's also easy to dial in sounds you aren't looking for, if anyone doesn't like the drive channel my guess is you just need to spend a little more time dialing it in. I like to dime both gain knobs and roll back my volume to get a really nice crunch sound, then crank it as needed, it sounds great! Most of the stuff we play is rock-hard rock. This will cover AC/DC, GNR and other higher gain stuff no problem. You can get close to metal territory by scooping the mids and putting a tube screamer in from of the amp. The other really important thing to note with this amp is that you need to have the right pickups! I use a strat with a humbucker on the bridge and it sounds great. You're not going to get the Marshall rock sound with lower output, single coil pick-ups. I've a/b'd this amp with a jubilee, Friedman runt, Marshall dsl 40 and to my ears this amp just sounds smoother and better than all of them, the tube dynamics are incredible. This amp has no problem keeping up in a band setting and even playing small venues. The sweet spot on the drive channel seems to be around 4-5 which is a little loud for bedroom use, but it doesn't sound terrible at lower volumes either. I would highly recommend this amp.

Picked up a used one for an unbelievable price. Careful of the reverb on the older ones. There is a Tech note to adjust a couple resister values to fix the reverb ring. Once up to the new specs they really sing. I find the distortion a bit thin on the gain channel, but the cleans are fender solid. The fat channel gives it a nice bit of dirt that sounds great. The reverb goes all the way from a nice little texture to all out surf on the high end, just like any spring reverb fender. Foot switch seems well built. It also takes pedals on the clean channel very well. Overall a great amp I will be holding on to for a very, very long time.

I traded in my Blues Jr. mark I for this amp about 1.5 years ago, and it was the best decision I've made regarding gear. I found the Jr.'s EQ next to useless, and had a really mushy bottom end tone. The SS22 fixed all of my major complaints. It's distortion is really useful and much more open sounding. The EQ is powerful and you can squeeze a lot of different sounds out of it. If you crank both gains, however, things can get a little fizzy, but this isn't too bad if you keep gain 2 on the lower side of things. I don't play clean very much, so I can't really speak to it - it seems fairly useful, nothing glaringly wrong, and again the EQ does the job. Haven't used the FX loop much, but it's a nice feature to have. The Reverb is good, bit much when really cranked. I play blues and rock mostly, so this fits my style nicely.

Traded in my Blues Jr II for this about a year ago. What a world of difference. I found my Jr. had a flubby low end, sounded muffled, and the EQ didn't do much. This sounds much more open, and pretty much everything I wanted out of my first amp. Lots of gain on tap, can shape my tone with the EQ well, and it takes pedals well. Sounds decent at pretty low volumes, and amazing at higher ones (around 3-4 on burn channel). I don't use the clean channel much, but it's resonable. The cleans I've been able to get out of it are Fendery. Recommended for classic rock and blues. Capable of most modern rock, but not made for metal.

I remember owning a Spider IV 15 as my first amp (still have). Decent, but I knew I needed some tubes. I came across this amp, and was immediately in love when I first tried it. Glorius Fender clean tone, and a great distortion "burn" channel as well. The clean channel stays clean (even at 6!!) and the distortion is as good as any distortion pedal you can buy. It is not light, (40 lbs) but then again, no amp with this sort of power is. The only issue I have experienced with this amp is recently with the reverb, but I have owned the amp for over three years, playing it almost every day, but it is fixed and all is well. Even the best things need a little maintenece every now and again. Glorious sound, decent price, good volume. It is my signaure sound, and I have never looked back. Amazing combo amp from Fender.

I purchased this amp because it was a tube amp with the features I wanted, and it isn't too heavy to haul around to gigs. It worked well for the first few months, but then the reverb started to feed back. I took the reverb tank apart and found it had been improperly assembled at the factory. Some of the grommets were not properly inserted, and had fallen out. As well, the reverb unit was askew in the back of the amp. I reworked and reassembled the reverb and all is well. I play every other day and gig at least once a month, our other guitar player plays the same amp, and we have nothing but good things to say about their performance and consistency. Fender, pay more attention to your quality assurance.

Let me save you some time right here, right now! If you know what low wattage tube amps are all about this is the amp for you. Anyone giving this little jem a bad review is either inexperienced or just doesn't know anything about tube amps. I've had Mesa Boogie amps pretty much for all of my 30 plus years of playing. Still love Mesa but this little amp gives me everything I need and more. Remember it's all about getting the right amp for what you do. Love it!

I was so looking forward to buying one of these after seeing/hearing great reviews online. When I went to L&M to try/buy this amp, I took it and 2 other amps into the test room to compare "Fender" sounds (A/B'd with a Fender hot rod deluxe & Deluxe Reverb). What a disappointment! The Supersonic sounds thin and shrilly. Both clean and crunch tones are bad. It also had an irritating constant buzzing when not playing at all. I bought the deluxe reverb that day and have never looked back. Save your money and don't believe the stuff you read/hear online, Try it for yourself and you will probably buy another amp or be glad you saved the $1000 bucks you had burning a hole in your wallet when you get back to your car. Two Thumbs down!

I traded my Deluxe Reverb reissue for the SuperSonic 22 to get a more diversified amp sound. The fat and burn features plus upgraded speaker make all the difference. Highly recommended for gigs and recording.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
