Crisp punchy sound! I bought them for my Washburn acoustic, but they were too metallic sounding for that bass. I put them on my Gibson RD Artist bass and love the sound! That bass takes a long scale plus string, so I was pleasantly surprised that these strings fit that guitar!

I put these on an Ibanez SR505 and use mostly Ibanez (soft and hard) Elastomer 2.2 picks with this setup since they protect the coating. Moreover, the tone of this combination is simply awesome! Very lively, very soulful, very complex, including the B string, and with very little pick noise. As far as the coating goes, I have experienced no flaking. But, the strings do need to be protected from damage while installing.

I played a show with these. It was a caverness building with tons of on-stage gear, none of it mine. I was merely insurance for "no shows". I was surprized to actually hear myself. I have saved these strings in an acoustic bass case in case one of the Optimus strings break. This my not be what you are looking for but don't kid yourself. This is way better than most, by far.

As soon as they arrived I put them on my Fender Jazz and tried them out...and I'm fully satisfied!..A great sound, still keeping that bright roundwound tone but slightly less punishing on the fingers and frets. So glad I got them!

I love them!...arrived this afternoon, so I put them on my Fender Jazz and tried them out...they sound marvellous!..not as harsh on the fingertips as regular roundwounds. I hate changing strings (the previous ones on my Jazz were put on 25 years ago), so I wipe them down after every playing ...let's see how long these Black Beauties last
