Being an iconic and must have pedal for any collection, I’ve had the effect on an old multi-effects processor and wanted to have the actual pedal. I had no idea how versatile it is and easy to dial up. What really got me was the harmony and detune modes, which eliminates the need for an octave or chorus pedal. The legend lives on!

I had an original black Whammy version 2 about ten years ago but it was flimsy and I killed it. Worked great while it lasted as you can toggle the settings with your foot. After many years I had to buy a new one. This new version is built like a tank but they returned to having a dial to adjust settings like on all other versions except the flimsy black one. Oh well. The sound is a tad trebly and there is even more settings that I don't need. It still is not an intelligent pitch shifter that plays according to scale and key. I tend to use it in the settings of my old dead unit. The octave +1 or +2( Satriani or Morello) or octave -1 ( like a whammy bar when using a guitar with a fixed bridge). The harmony settings I use are 4ths,5ths and octave above or below. Anything else is awful. An added bonus I use in this one is the Classic(warbling)Chords switch. Nice touch. It eliminates that annoying warble in older pedals so you can play whole chords and sound somewhat like a 12 string.

I was in a White Stripes cover band for a few years, i owned the V4 the entire time we were gigging which was 2/3 times a months for about 3 years. I'm not easy on my gear and it took the assault with no issues. i bought the V5 because well newer must be better right? I'm very impressed by the chords addition can get a decent 12 string sound. if you're getting bored or want to add a layer sure theres other pedals but this is probably the most versatile for your money.

Always liked Whammy for its whammy effect but not so much for intelligent pitch shifting. I tend to use the octave above or below settings and 4th or 5th intervals. Using 3rds would be nice but as I said needs to be intelligent to work right with a given scale. The whammy settings I use are mostly oct plus 1or 2. Haven't tried the dive bomb yet but that would be handy on a guitar with a fixed bridge. Originally owned a Whammy 2, which sounded good but was flimsy and not solidly built. This new one is built like a tank.

I bought this pedal because I play a lot of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave. I do use it for some other stuff but if you aren't into that specific sound do not buy it. It is a little bit pricy but with the sound it creates and the quality of the product it is a great buy.

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty.

Warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?

Performance Guarantee - normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage.

Product Replacement - if your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.

No Lemon Policy - your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.

Convenient - easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.

Guitar Setup - Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.

Loaners Available - a loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.

Power Surge Protection - your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.

Accessory Coverage - any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.

Commercial Use Coverage - music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty.Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, woodwind pads, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Accidental or cosmetic damage is not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

NEW products: 4% of selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.

USED products: 4% of selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year. Pricing for used electronic products is 4% of the original new selling price.

GUITARS: 4% of selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.

BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: $40 up to $2,000 selling price. BRASS and STRINGS: 2% of the selling price after $2,000. WOODWINDS: 4% of the selling price after $2,000.

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.
