First off I want to say, if you're looking for the classic warm, fuzzy Orange sound, this amp is not it. You'll be better off with the OR15, as that amp is perfect for that sound. Now if you're looking for a thrashy, gnarly, slightly scooped high gain sound, that chugs for days, this amp nails it. Perfect for getting some nasty (the good kind) riffs, old school thrash, grind, sludge? it's filthy and I love it. My only gripe is the limited eq controls. The Shape knob is ok, it seems to basically increase or decrease the top end, and add or scoop mids depending on the direction you turn it. If this amp had the regular Bass Middle Treble eq it would be perfect imo. BUT, it does have an FX loop, so an eq pedal in the loop solves this issue, which is what I do, but if you don't have one that's some added cost of course. Overall it's an awesome little Firebreather, and gets more than loud enough for at home use. Even on the 7 watt setting I can only get the volume halfway before the eardrums start complaining.

Had one a few years ago and got rid of it because i didnt know how to use it, replaced it with the tiny terror which was awesome in its own right but didnt have the fx loop. Finally got my hands on the dark terror a month or so ago and have fully fallen in love with it. Im more of a blues guy who loves to play heavier stuff every once and a while, and this amp does it ALL! dont hestitate and buy one right now!

This is an amazing amp that needs no big explanation. It has HUGE power that surprised me for a 15w/7w amp. I use it on 7w most of the time and it's perfect for the studio and for small/medium concerts, but if you really like the sound just mic the cabinet for bigger concerts. I absolutely LOVE this amplifier. The only problem is that there is only the shape nob and no 3 band EQ. Also i would have liked to have a separate clean channel but for the price and the quality I honestly couldn't care less. This is amazing.

I bought it on sale on boxing day and the service I received was superb. Even though the store was full of customers, the salesmen would walk by and ask if I needed any help. This amp is as the title says, simple yet quite effective. I havent bought a seperate cabinet for it but what I have done is plugged it into the two 12" speakers of my Fender hot rod Deville and it sounds awesome! I can get a near "Fender" clean and a monstrous high gain at the turn of my guitar's volume knob. Great Beatles, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Rolling Stones tones. Btw, did I mention it comes with a shoulder strap bag? :D 10/10 would buy again if stolen.

This amp has some serious crunch. It may look little, but the sound is huge.

Great little amp but the sound is big, very impressed. The only reason I didn't buy it was because a need a clean channel. But if you don't use a clean channel this amp has tons of distortion and sustain.

This is a great little amp. I was in the market for a new practice amp; but I needed something I could bring around to jams and gigs with ease; without sacrificing tone. The Dark terror fits those parameters to a tee. Great tone, effects loop, 7 or 15 watt option, and a boatload of gain on tap: It's really all you need. Since there is no 'true' EQ on this amp, I run it with an MXR 10 band through my mesa 212, and it just slays. Some people have stated that they don't like the way it sounds coupled with vintage 30s, but if you're a fan of that dirty sludge metal tone you hear from Mastodon, and High on Fire - like I am - you're going to love this amp through 30s. The shape knob offers a lot of tonal variety for its simplicity, and if you own an EQ pedal there is no reason to fear not having the traditional 3 on the head. That said, the only reason an EQ pedal is a necessity for me is because I need to cut the bass out for practice in my apartment. Tonally speaking, this amp can run by itself with ease. I just like the extra 'oomph' the 10 band can give it. I compared this amp with probably 10-15 heads and combos in this price range, and even up to the mesa mini recto - almost double the cost of this amp - and nothing came close. Even if the recto was the same price as this guy, I would still choose the Dark Terror without hesitation. It's got more than enough volume to gig with, and it sounds nice at 'bedroom' volumes as well. (Rare for a tube amp) For reference: The mids are pushed when the shape knob is left of 12, and scooped out to right of 12. The amount changes drastically depending on where you end up. Comes with a cool Orange bag, and it weighs next to nothing. The active metal guitarist's dream buy in terms of portability and tone; all for under 600 dollars.

Cannot beat value for the buck here. Easily loud enough for jamming in a band. Perfect distortion sound. Cleans up nice y rolling back volume on guitar. Effects loop sounds wicked. Really nice LITTLE package. Save your money and buy this instead of the 100 watt monster you're looking at getting.

I have played this amp and just overall AMAZING. The gain stage is perfect on this lunch box style amp. The only thing i would like is a 3 band eq as the shape option is the entire eq i just wish i could alter it a little. But still amazing amp can not wait to get my own!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
