The Yorkville YSM8 delivers unmatched clarity and fierce bottom end. The 8-inch woofer and 1-inch soft dome tweeter deliver precise reproduction and a large sweet spot for listening in larger spaces and at higher volume. A solid 3/4-inch MDF cabinet with reinforced bracing reduces rumble and the contoured baffle virtually eliminates cabinet self-interference. The front facing port design solves the issue of bass coupling with back walls and corners in smaller studio environments and further enhances bottom end response at higher listening levels.

Compatible with virtually any source, the Yorkville YSM8 has a widely variable input trim control for the balanced XLR / 1/4-inch combi-jack input. Four position high and low frequency trim controls (at -2, -1, 0 and +1.5dB) allow user adjustable EQ contour to compensate for speaker placement in less than perfect listening spaces.

The YSM8 is designed for professional studio applications and for punishing listening environments where the widest possible sweet spot and higher volumes are required.

Contoured MDF baffles, custom designed soft dome tweeters and high quality low frequency woofers used in Yorkville's YSM Series monitors combine to minimize front face reflections creating improving phase response, providing a wider 'sweet spot' in the listening position. Front facing port design solves the issue of bass coupling with back walls and corners in small environments which can generate false low-frequency information in your mix.

Rock-solid 3/4-inch MDF cabinet construction with heavy internal bracing and ample internal dampening material reduces unwanted low frequency rumble ensures Yorkville YSM Series cabinets reproduce source material with near pinpoint accuracy and detail.

She has a great ear and also has perfect pitch. let her listen and she picked the Yorkvilles as well . What else can I say they sound great in my studio . I greatly recommend them to anybody who wants great monitors for their studio

I rented KRK Rokit 8s and YSM 8s to compare at home. I had previously tried Yamahas but found them too "clinical" for my needs. After a week of careful scrutiny, the YSMs won hands down. Confession: I use them as stereo speakers for my guitar, running my multi-fx board L-R XLR outputs into them. Yeah... they can handle it, not on stage but in studio. They're tonally accurate... clean and neutral with a perfect mix of highs and lows. Of course, the EQ settings on the back help dial everything in. Stereo delay effects like ping-pong, L-R panning, etc. sound amazing. Musically, their 45Hz - 20kHz response puts them in the same range as audio speakers. Very easy on the ears and they do justice to most genres... well, except opera maybe.

Severe white noise/hiss issue 6 of 7 customers found this review helpful

tr;dl incredible sound but severe white noise destroys the experience. The speakers have amazing sound and spacial imaging for the price. I monitor traditional East Asian music. The way these speakers reproduce drums made the hair on my arms stand up. It was almost surreal. That being said, these speakers have severe white noise/hiss issues, even when idling empty (nothing connected apart from the power cord). I sat a good six feet away from the speakers and the hiss still come in clear as day. This was enough to give me a mild headache when they're on at idle. Furthermore, since much of Eastern music has frequent silent passages, this white noise is enough to intrude into the music. Both of my units did this, at the same volume level, regardless of connections and knob positions. These speakers also readily picked up an FM radio station as well as Wi-Fi traffic (in the form of rhythmic clicking), a symbol of poor or nonexistent shielding, which makes me wonder whether a lack of shielding is the cause of all that white noise. I brought them back to the store where an employee and I compared their idle noise to a few other speakers. We both concluded that the YSM8 had far more pronounced idle noise than all the other speakers we've tried. Otherwise these speakers are solidly built and come with all the on-board frequency corrections/trims one would need. The only missing feature in my opinion is auto power on/off. The Yorkville YSM8 would be killer studio monitors if only Yorkville could rectify the white noise issue. 3/5 because after all they sound amazing. A crying shame.

The overall sound quality of these monitors is fine, I haven't run in to any problems in that regard. They're punchy, bassy and clear enough for my liking. HOWEVER, when i first bought these one of the cones was extremely distorted if you played anything below 200hz on it. I returned it to the store for a replacement (sidenote, the staff at my local store were very understanding and helpful, I really appreciated how easy the warranty claim was). My second monitor now, the one I haven't replaced, is making an awful crackling noise and the Input Sensitivity knob cannot be touched or the speaker stops producing sound. If you turn the knob, again it makes an awful static noise. I have been experiencing random drop outs from this monitor and random peaks or valleys in volume. I am now noticing that the bass frequencies (below 200hz) are again distorted on this monitor. Over all, I like the sound but am disappointed in the build quality. They're a good sounding inexpensive monitor, but the problems I am having are frustrating and I can't give this a good rating because of it. Buyer beware.

I have had these and a JBL LSR2310SP subwoofer in my home studio for 4 years and they have performed amazingly. Very flat response, very tight and punchy yet not overhyped bass. Solid construction and I've never heard any vibration from the cabinets whatsoever. XLR and 1/4" inputs, treble and bass adjustments, and they go VERY loud without any distortion. I did have the Yorkville sub but returned it. I have to assume it was not made with the same sound engineering effort. Can't recommend. If you can get the JBL mentioned above, its a perfect match, but I believe it's discontinued. For value these monitors easily beat the competitors in this class, Yamaha and KRK. Bottom line, they are great.

I really wanted to like these speakers ? they're powerful and have great, flat response across the spectrum, with the usual spike at 130Hz that seems to be the norm. But there's a fatal flaw in my opinion: constant amp white noise, independent of program material, that is impossible to ignore at lower listening levels or during any quieter passages. Shame.

Got a pair of 6.5'' for a small room. I felt Yamaha's 8'' (HS8) had too much bass, the 6.5'' was too flat, while 5'' had no bass at all. Sales rep said they tire the ear and I agree. They were not sharp but not warm at all. KRKs sounded bassy but hollow in the mid-range. 5'' Focals sounded great and very comparable to the larger speakers. But one of the Focal speaker started buzzing on one particular song. That raised alarms + for $100+ more apiece they didn't sound better than the 6.5'' Yorkvilles. Dynaudios sounded pretty bad. Quite a bit louder but very harsh in the mid-high end. I was tired in 5 sec. In contrast, the 6.5'' Yorkvilles had comparable bass to the Yamaha 8''. I'm finding them flat but warm. The 8'' Yorkvilles also sounded great and there was less of a drastic change than between the different sizes of Yamahas. Just overall balanced, consistent speakers. I didn't try the 5'' but for my tiny room, I now see 6.5'' is appropriate. I don't have to turn them up loud but they sound very clear. They do not overwhelm the room like I expected. I tested the low end on "Frog" by Carbon Based Lifeforms, "Candy Walls" by Trust, and "Enchanted" by Delerium. The Yorkvilles are the only ones that caught some sloppy mixing on the Frog track. And "Enchanted" caused the port on one of the Focals to buzz. I tested the Yorkvilles also on some Rammstein, NIN, synth pop, and a couple of acoustic tracks. It all sounded very balanced on the Yorkvilles. I've had about 3 days listening to them now. So far, not regretting my purchase. I had my heart set on the Yamahas, but these sound so much better and quite a bit cheaper. Also, the front-facing port is great. I can have these closer to the wall. I really like the FRONT-facing blue glowing power buttons.

After trying the various monitor units in the store, the YSM8s had a distinct sonic advantage over the competition. The YSM8s are very detailed and have a good bass response that does not require a sub. Unlike other monitors that trade their musicality for analytical sound, the YSM8s are a superior analytical tool while still sounding great for listening. I would recommend these to any producer/engineer.

What a wonderful purchase. After listening to the KRKs, Yamahas, M-Audios... These were the clear winner, and I do mean clear. Amazing audio reproduction at every volume I've tried. Crispness I'm just not accustomed to. Bought them with 30day no questions asked money back guarantee... I knew after an hour I would not be returning these bad boys. Can't wait to get the YSS10 subwoofer to complete these epic monitors.

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
