This bass is amazing, and perfect for beginners/young players like me. I've been playing bass for four months and the scale length is perfect since I'm only 13. One thing I don't like about this bass is the strap buttons. The buttons are so small and most straps, especially auto-lock straps don't fit securely on the bass. I had to replace the buttons with wider ones I found on Amazon. Other than that, this is a perfect, lightweight bass guitar for anybody who is a beginner or a young bassist.

Overtime I bought a lot of guitars, electric and Acoustic and basses and I never see that. I opened the box and Wow! Everyting was perfect, no fret to files, perfect paint job, beautiful black. Even the strings are great, perfect intonation and perfect height of the strings. Best Bass ever, beautiful maple neck , no buzz at all Nothing to complain, play really well. Really good price. It's not just for kid, it's for everyone who wants a good Precision Bass I love it! Thank you Long and Mc quade.

At this price point ($240), you can't expect perfection, but with a little tweaking, this bass can be a solid, very playable instrument. It has a very slight bit of neck dive, but just barely. Besides, it is a featherweight - mine is 6.2 lbs. People have often mentioned that one of the edge strings is much closer to the edge of the fretboard than the other. That is a very quick fix. Loosen the 4 neck bolts slightly and then align the neck to centre the strings. That's it. Done. Strings for a 28.6" scale bass are difficult to come by unless you specifically go custom-made, but I had a set of Rotosound 66LD stainless steel rounds, 0.045 - 0.065 - 0.080 - 0.105 (34" scale set) that I decided to experiment with on this bass. First off, the fat part of the E string ends up right at the tuning post, and the stock tuner does not have a big enough hole and slot to accommodate the diameter of the string. After bending the string at a right angle, I carefully unwrapped enough outer winding to drop the string into the hole. Thankfully, the rest of the windings held intact. The fat part of the string wound around the post without incident and the other three strings were a piece of cake after the E string was taken care of. So, in short, if you choose carefully, you may cut down strings made for longer scale lengths, but it is probably better to stick with short scale offerings. I don't know of any manufacturers offering a 28.6" scale length string set, so some experimentation may be required if you prefer other strings. Other things I have done to my Mini to push it into the "excellent" realm: 1/ I replaced the stock tuners with Hipshot USA Ultralite® Bass Tuning Machines 3/8". These have a larger centre slot and hole which more easily accommodates a greater variety of strings. As a bonus, these are lighter and further counteract any tendency to neck dive, which again is so minor, I almost don't want to mention it. (And again, 6.2 lbs.!) 2/ The set screws on the bridge were sticking up out of the saddles - not pleasant for the right hand, so the neck was carefully unbolted so that I could slide a shim toward the deep end of the neck pocket. This allowed me to raise the saddles with hex screws flush to the top of the saddles. Another benefit to this is that better break angle at the bridge was achieved. 3/ I could not adjust the height of the pickups very well, so I had to replaced the somewhat weak and marginal material with a high grade of high-density foam under the pickups. Hate it when you just need another 0.5 mm of pickup height and the foam underneath can't do it. 4/ Replaced the (comical) stock strap pins with something of a normal size. Don't know how you can use the stock pins unless you always sit down while you play. The unit I bought had good fret work in that the frets were level and I could achieve very low action without buzz anywhere. Not to say every Mini will luck out with perfectly level frets; just that mine did. The fret ends on mine did not need attention either. So, with a little bit of enjoyable work, this bass moves up from a fun, at-home, novelty player to a seriously good player you could gig with!

For 250 bucks, this is a fun little bass. (now down to 240!). Quality is as you'd expect from an instrument of this price--not great, but fine. Feels pretty cheap, and the neck on my is offset (more space between Low E and the end of the neck than on the high G). But, I'm confident L & M will fix this when I bring it in. They have good service. Otherwise, tuners, control knobs, jack are good. No hum. They probably kept it cheap partly by having an unfinished neck and headstock which is just an aesthetic thing so who cares. Onto the good: It's really fun to play this thing. Super lightweight. Fits in my banjo gig bag! And it's size makes it really easy to play. It inspires me to pick it up and play it, which for me is the most important thing. It sounds all right with the tone rolled all the way down. Super deep, as you'd expect from a sub-short scale bass. It's got a unique sound. Not an amazing sound, but you can work with it. I bought it cuz I needed a bass for recording something during the lockdown when stores were closed and I couldn't go in store and try anything. So, I bought the cheapest bass available, and figured I could return it if I didn't like. I have decided to keep it, so that says something. I like it. If you're looking for a super lightweight, ultra-portable bass that sounds decent, I'd recommend it.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
