I just hate tuning drums. So much hit and miss. Since I bought the tune bot I have enjoyed tuning drums. I did a little of research and I am glad I bought one. Kit never sounded better.

This is one of the best things invented for drums. I've always been picky on how my drums were tuned. this tuner makes being picky a lot easier. now I can have my drums tuned to notes and have my drums tuned exactly how I like them ay all times. For people just learning the references and the artist settings they give are great starting point. This is by far one of my best investments. This takes tuning drums to a whole new level.

I put myself through engineering school playing and teaching professionally. That was 25+ years ago, and I sold my last kit over20 years ago. Back then, pretty much everything that we played sounded like a cardboard box regardless of what we did to it, so we didn't pay too much attention to tuning beyond what sounded "good". I recently got the itch and bought a kit that I could never afford when I was younger - Yamaha Absolute Hybrid Maple (incredible, BTW). I quickly learned how far drum technology has come, and that tuning is now an issue, especially with a high-end kit. Now, I have a pretty good ear, but after more hours than I care to admit, I still didn't have the kit where I wanted it, or as good as I knew it could sound. Tuning between lugs on a given head wasn't too much of an issue, but setting up the relative frequencies between batter and resonant heads was challenging. Ditto for the fundamental frequencies between the different drums, which is a function of the relative batter/resonant tensions - you can't change one variable without affecting others. I (finally) did a web search and came across the Tune-Bot. The next day I purchased one, and within a couple of hours I had my kit tuned. Moreover, I now have the ability to play/experiment with the tuning in a controlled, precise, and repeatable manner (which I have been doing). By "ear", I was way off on some of the batter/resonant frequencies, but even cleaning up slight variances in frequency from lug to lug on a given head paid big dividends in cleaning up the overall tone. It takes a while to learn how to use the Tune-Bot efficiently and effectively. This includes factors ranging from using the filter function properly to figuring out how to measure frequencies on the bass drum (best done holding the unit with your hand instead of trying to clip it to the hoop). And you have to understand at least the fundamentals of drum tuning. However, the product comes with decent instructions, and there is a lot of supplemental support material on their website. Having said that, the specific suggested tuning frequencies on the website are just a starting point - each drum/kit will respond differently depending on shell construction and the head type. Two-ply heads in particular are a wild card since they require a minimum amount of tension, usually quite a bit, to even function. However, as I said, the Tune Bot allows you to explore and develop your specific tuning framework in a controlled, precise, and repeatable manner. A fantastic product - actually undervalued in my opinion. After spending thousands on a kit, $130 or $140 to exploit its full potential is peanuts.

I agree with everything posted here on the reviews. I will add that it is an awesome diagnostic tool regarding the build quality of drums (it detects out of round problems, poor bearing edges, defective snare beds, warped hoops, etc.).

I still tune by ear until I have my kit exactly the way I want and then I use the tune bot to remember my settings so that I can recheck my tuning and adjust as necessary. This is a great piece of electronics and well worth the money in terms of time saving and convenience. This is a must have for both the pro and the beginner. I have been playing drums for over 50 years and never found anything this good.

Firstly, I know how to tune drums but to get the entire kit perfect would take me at least 4-5 hours. Because I play bass, guitar, drums, keys, etc.... I don't have the time to devote to the kit that I should as it would take up time for other instruments. It takes me less time to get the kit close enough but, then the kit would sound OK, not great. Not having a great kit to start with meant that having drums not perfectly tuned left me with an OK kit with an OK sound. The Tunebot saved me at least 85% of the time I would have spent tuning. The device reads notes or hertz (frequency). I checked my tuning with the Tunebot and my lug tension was really close, the hertz readings at each lug just a few hz out from each other. Getting it perfect from this point by ear takes me forever. With the Tune bot, you can get tuning at each lug exactly the same super quickly. The tunebot helps find the fundamental pitch of your drum, tune to a note value, get the interval between heads, easily try different tuning on your entire kit or just one drum. Essentially, if you know how to tune drums, this unit will make tuning faster, more precise and less time consuming. If you are just learning to tune, this unit will make your life much easier and save you a ton of time. Changing your sound is no longer, for me anyway, a long tedious, ear fatiguing process. The whole thing is less daunting now. Great, easy to read and quick start instructions. Super website support. If my time is worth 20 dollars and hour, this has paid for itself after one use. Demystifies the art of tuning drums. Should be in every studio/producer/engineers/ bag of tricks. Recommended if you can afford it. Long and Mcquade should rent these!!!
