I also own a Suzuki SCX-56, so sometimes I miss the higher octave on this Hohner. That said, the CX-12 is fun to play - and loud! The slider works very well. I haven't yet done any maintenance, but it should be easy, given how easy the slider/mouthpiece is to take apart. This is a very nice chromatic, and I would say it's easier to play than the SCX-56, which suggests the wind savers and reeds are a little tighter.
