SG Standard
When the original Les Paul evolved into the Les Paul/SG Standard in 1961, the evolution embodied Les Pauls vision for a sleek, powerful, contemporary solidbody electric guitar. The single-cut Standard returned to the fold later in the decade, but the distinctive double-cutaway guitarnow simply known as the SGstayed in the lineup too, and became a major rock and blues icon. The new SG Standard embodies all the tone, feel, and look of the original rendition of this legendary guitar, with features such as a slim 60s profile neck with a smaller early 60s headstock, the original early 60s pickguard, dual 57 Classic humbucking pickups, and Gibsons innovative hardware, all wrapped into a design that remains one of the most versatile guitars available today. To top it off, the SG Standard displays classic looks in your choice of Heritage Cherry, Ebony, Classic White, or Natural Burst finish, all in high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer. And, for a nominal upcharge, you can kick the new SG Standard right into the 21st century with a factory upgrade to automated Min-ETune robot tuners. A left-handed version also available.

Like the greatest SGs ever made, the SG Standard starts with a foundation of solid mahogany, a tonewood with a long tradition at Gibson. A solid mahogany body (Grade-A beneath the translucent finish options) is crafted in the distinctive, thin asymmetrical dual-cutaway style, with iconic pointed horns and beveled edges to enhance playing comfort. A solid, Grade-A, quarter-sawn mahogany neck is glued into the body in Gibsons time-tested tradition, and carved to a fast, slim 60s profile that measures .800 at the 1st fret and .875 at the 12th. It is topped with a bound fingerboard made from genuine Grade-A rosewood with 22 medium-jumbo frets, and traditional trapezoid inlays. The smaller vintage-style headstock has the classic mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and holly inlays.

The SG Standard takes its firepower from a pair of 57 Classic humbucking pickups, some of the most popular recreations of vintage PAF humbuckers available today. These great pickups use genuine Alnico II bar magnets and are wound with 42-AWG enamel-coated wire for the characteristic blend of warmth and creaminess that made original PAFs legendary. The traditional wiring complement of an independent volume and tone control per pickup plus a three-way toggle selector switch allows a broad range of sonic variations. To anchor it all down, Gibson USA loads in a Tune-o-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece, with a set of genuine TonePros vintage-style tuners, a hardware set that partners up for solid sustain and precision tuning. Put it all together, and the SG Standard presents a great incarnation of the iconic original, bringing the look, feel, and sound to the hands of players of today.

A great guitar! I also own a 1963 Gibson SG and by comparison the neck is much thicker on the 2013 model. The guitar is very reliable and feels great to play. Perfect for blues and rock n' roll stuff.

Years ago a bandmate had a '70s SG, it had a thin light body and a small fast neck that felt like a dream. Last winter I ordered one and it had nothing to do with the guitar I was looking for, the body was a lot thicker, the neck was huge and felt like a log. So I didn't buy it and paid the $20 shipping fee they asked me with no problem. Good for you guys if you like it, a Gibson keeps a good value.

Had to order mine, as they didn't have any in stock. It arrived and it's flawless. I wasn't sure what to expect, as I heard mixed reviews on Gibson's GC. No problems here. It stays in tune well, the intonation is dead on, the finish is immaculate, and the hardshell case is really nice as well. Neck shape took a little getting used to, but it's wonderful. Really fast neck. Overall the guitar feels really solid and I feel I got my money's worth. The finish smells like chocolate. I guess that's a bonus. :P Customer service was good as usual at my local L&M.

I picked the natural burst up from Long and McQuade in Burlington the other day. I hadn't shopped for a Gibson in a few years and I was so happy to see that the fit and finish on all of the Gibson's were superb! When I was shopping for my first SG back in 2009 I found that the binding was uneven and a bit sloppy on the whole Gibson USA lineup, even a few custom models. I even went to different stores and sure enough found the same minor imperfections wherever I went. Seems like Gibson has improved their QA! Anyway back to this particular guitar. It plays and sounds as good as an SG can which is great! Love that they have 57' classics now and the slim neck is so great compared to the old standards which had a really thick neck. I also received fantastic service in Burlington!

My stable includes an LP Traditional and a Fender Strat. I picked this thing up in the shop one day out of curiousity and instantly felt comfortable with it. It's light, it's fast and it sounds great. It's like it was made for me. I have nothing bad to say about it. LOVE it.

No buyers remorse here. The sound and feel suits me perfectly. This is also my first Gibson and looking forward to getting my Les Paul Standard in the future.

I can’t say how much I love this guitar; it feels good, sounds great, and is a joy to play! This is my first Gibson & it was worth every penny. I would however like to know as to why it smells like chocolate?

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
