Baretta Special
Kramer is the number one name in high-performance guitars for high-performance rockers, and the new Baretta Special has a pedigree like few instruments out there. Styled in the image of the original Kramer Barettas of the early 1980s--one of which was the choice of the legendary Edward Van Halen--the Baretta Special has the distinctive offset double-cutaway body and droopy hockey headstock that set the rock world on fire nearly 30 years ago, while providing the power and playability required to do justice to its namesake. With a powerful humbucker pickup, vintage-style vibrato tailpiece, and a stunning Vintage White or Black finish, this entry level shred machine is the perfect introduction to the Kramer world without breaking your wallet.

Looking beneath the first-class hardware and electronics, the Baretta Special has the right tonewoods to back it all up. Its body is crafted from solid mahogany, a legendary wood for use in electric guitars, known for its outstanding richness and depth. The bolt-on neck is carved from hard Maple with a glued-on Rosewood fingerboard, and is built to the 25 1/2 scale length that many shredders prefer, which offers tight, thumping lows and shimmering harmonics. A fast, slim neck profile, 22 medium-jumbo frets, and a 12" fingerboard radius combine to make the Baretta Special superbly playable.

For no-nonsense rock action, the Baretta Special carries a single high-output humbucking pickup in the bridge position, routed through a single volume control. This Baretta Special pickup is wound with 42-AWG wire and made with a genuine Alnico V magnet just like the most desirable vintage humbuckers, but it has extra turns of wire for scorching leads and crunching rhythm tones, along with endless singing sustain. A vintage-style vibrato tailpiece provides all the divebombing action you can whip up, while premium die cast tuners with an efficient 14:1 gear ratio help to keep the whole package true to pitch.

Just picked this up yesterday and can't seem to put it down. "Back to basics" as I'm telling everyone. Volume knob, single pickup, just the right feel.....and the right price point.....what more do you need? Plays great, looks great....and has that wonderful Kramer quality and background. Great for beginners and/or advanced guitar players.....no regrets purchasing this new axe!

There's something about a single pickup guitar that gets the heart pumping. The quality of this Indonesian made Kramer Beretta Special is outstanding for the price. I've owned many cheap & expensive guitars over the years. This product to me rates at about $650 to $750 on the quality scale right out of the box. It is truly an overlooked bargain. Kramer is owned by Gibson. This model just comes with a whammy bar and that's it. No tools, cords, soft case or anything else. The fretwork alone is something to be admired, no fret sprout, they are smooth and dressed properly - simply unheard of at this price point. Neck is thin Maple satin back but a little wider than some S style guitars, very fast. No adjustment was needed out of the box. The beauty of its nicely carved maple Candy Purple S style body is further accentuated by the lack of not only a pick guard, but it's happily missing a middle & rhythm pickup as well as unnecessary switches and tone knobs. Just love that clean look, truly a classic design and extremely practical. Just plug in and go. Because of the thankful lack of hardware, it sounds very resonant acoustically too. Looks fantastic hanging on the wall, like art. Comes in at about 8lbs, just right. The single volume control is a bit of an on/off affair, but there is a thoughtful treble bleed circuit built-in as the volume is diminished. I will keep the circuit when I upgrade to a push pot to split the coil as they have on the more expensive Kramers. The Alnico V 'Zebra' pickup is a good choice. The sound is heavy & smooth with decent treble break-up, though it could use a bit more output. I may upgrade to a Duncan Distortion or a DiMarzio Super D, but stock the pickup is very good and really no major complaints which is rare for this cost. The tuners, the bridge saddles and the nut are its only weak points, they are about what you'd find on a sub $300 guitar. I upgraded the tuners to Japanese made Gotoh MGT staggered locking tuners which were a bolt-in procedure. And the nut to a Graph Tech. I will replace the bridge saddles soon as well. Can't comment on the trem as I don't use them and have locked it back so it's more of a hardtail now. This is one of those guitars that are not only fun to upgrade, but are worth it. I'd strongly recommend this guitar but at the same time, I don't want to let out the secret that this is a bargain. Kramer (or L&M) might get wind of that and increase the price! In fact, I've ordered another one in Candy Blue, they are that good.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
