Out of all of Les Pauls many achievements; inventor, guitarist, and hit recording artist, Les is most beloved among musicians for inspiring the Les Paul Standard, one of the most sought-after guitars in the world. And now, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plustop PRO gives the legend a fresh start with ProBucker-2 and ProBucker-3 pickups with coil-tapping, a AAA flame maple veneer top, and beautiful new color finishes including Honeyburst (inspired by late 50s vintage Les Pauls), Heritage Cherry Sunburst, Trans Blue, Vintage Sunburst and Wine Red.
Epiphones history with legendary guitarist and innovator Les Paul dates back to the early 1940s when Les, working nights at the Epiphone factory on 14th Street in New York City, created one of the first solid body electric guitars, better known as The Log. Over the next 15 years, Les continued to develop his dream guitar that would sustain for days and in the late 50s, the historic Gibson and Epiphone factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan produced the sunburst Les Paul Standard and its new pickup, the PAF humbucker.
Players like Joe Bonamassa, Slash, Ace Frehley, Zakk Wylde, Jimmy Page, Alex Lifeson and countless others get their signature sound from a sunburst Les Paul and now Epiphone gives you a chance to experience that one-of-a-kind tone at an affordable price with the Les Paul Standard Plustop PRO. The Les Paul Standard Plustop PRO features ProBucker PAF-style pickups with coil-tapping, new colors and a beautiful AAA flame maple veneer top for a vintage look with all the modern appointments that players expect from Epiphone.
Like every Epiphone, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plustop PRO features a Limited Lifetime Warranty backed by world famous 24/7/365 Gibson Customer Service. Be a part of history today with the Les Paul Standard Plustop PRO.

Okay, so I got this used. I bought it because I own a studio and needed something I wouldn't be too worried about when having other artist play on it. As a professional musician, I am extremely impressed with this guitar! I bought it used for 400 dollars and got a nice leather epi les paul case with it, it was barely used. No dings, scratches, or issues whatsoever. I have many high end guitars, Some higher end Gibson's and USA fenders and such. But this guitar is a two in one! The coil tapping is VERY accurate. When compared to my gibson les paul, the hum buckers sound just as good if not better, frankly. And the coil tapping sounds just like my USA tele. I'm extremely impressed and would recommend this to a professional and intermediate player. It's a bit heavy, but that's alright. It's not a gigging guitar. It's use for me is studio only. I bought it because I didn't want my instruments dinged up, but now am thinking of getting something even cheaper because I just love the heck out of this thing. Epiphone has made great guitars for years, and they just seem to keep getting better.

Firstly I don't play professionally however I have owned several electric guitars over the past 35+ years. I could never justify paying the money for a Gibson LP but this guitar is a very close second place!!! The finish is absolutely flawless and it's a dream to play! With the coil tapping capability it's like having two guitars in one! I don't need to repeat similar comments from previous posts however I will state that this is well worth the money. If it were to be stolen or damaged I would be replacing it with another Epi Standard Pro!

I'm not sure about the $500.00 comments, wish I paid that much for mine!!! More like $625.00 with taxes with a$10.00 component insurance.
Anyway here's my take on this guitar; out of the box with a quick inspection at the store before purchasing everything seemed good. When I got home I wanted to examine it further, I found absolutely now flaws with the guitar it's self, the body and neck are perfectly crafted. The only thing I discovered was one of the volume knobs wobbled (easy fix).
I plugged it in, tuned it, and play for about 30 min. Didn't sound to bad utilizing the volume and tone knobs for different sound, so far so good. Acoustically I noticed buzzing on the 6th string 2nd fret and the 5th &4th at frets 3 & 4. The action was a bit high for my liking, the bridge was to high and had a killer angle to the hard tail. Needless to say, this guitar needed to be fully set up by a professional (some you can actually talk to helps a lot).
Long story short, changed out the pick ups, the Pots and Caps, the Nut, strings, fret dressed, intonation and set up to my precise request.
WOW!!! What a difference...I would say at least 3 times better feel and about 5 times better sounding. This guitar is so amazing now, it actually sounds just as good as a Gibson Les Paul, honestly I can't tell the difference.
All in all this is now one of my favourite guitars, final bill about $1200.00 not including case.

Bought this for my son for Christmas, he has not put it down. Drove 2 hours to get to the closest L&M store (in a snow storm a couple days before Christmas), they did not have it in stock, went to second store and accidently bumped into the region manager who was very dedicated in helping me find my son's perfect guitar. 4 more stores and a bit more driving (which he offered to do for me while I ate lunch) and L&M had the guitar, case, and strap ready for me and compensated me for my time and travel.
This guitar works great, the only issue is that one of the tuning knobs has been set a little bit off center, does not turn “flat” with the top of the guitar. We were also given a one year guitar tuning with the purchase.
I will defiantly go to them for future purchases.

Great Value For Money

As a beginning player, let's forget the Gibson LP snobbery, and just focus on getting the best value for money. For about $500, you get a great value in a Les Paul model. You get all the features you need and want, including push-pull pots to switch from humbucker (dual coil) to single coil sound. For those who don't know, dual coil eliminates hum and makes the sound thicker. The quality is really good for $500. It is not immediately apparent to me from looking in Long and McQuade's retail stores the differences between Gibson and Epiphone LPs beyond the price difference. If you read up, you'll find out a few differences (e.g. Gibsons are maple and mahogany, and Epiphones are mahogany with a maple veneer. Maple is the best sounding wood but too heavy to use throughout so they combine mahogany with maple instead. The string height at the nut seems very slightly off but I don't expect absolute micro perfection for $500. The neck bow seems very inicely done. The bridge seems a little low so that mught mean the neck angle is slightly flat, but there's enough adjustment range in the bridge to work with.
Note that Gibsons have factory settings for string height at the 12th fret lower than Epiphone. I lowered mine to the Gibson specs. There's some fret buzz that I can hear acoustically but it doesn't appear in my Line 6 amp clean output (a moderate amount of fret buzz usually can't be heard from the amp output, only your ear hears it directly from the neck).
Fit and finish are very nice for $500, and I don't immediately see the difference in quality between the Gibson and Epiphone.
There's only a moderate tug on your left shoulder due to the slight neck heaviness of the guitar, but it's far less than, say, an Explorer. This is because the LP has the strap button at the 7th fret, whereas it's at the 1st fret on an Explorer. Hence, the LP is relatively comfortable to put around your neck. When you let go mof the neck, it tends to stay on in position with just a little tugging, and you get used to the weight and tug after a week or so. The SG is extremely neck heavy...let go, and the neck points to the ground.
You don't get a guitar bag with this model, my store rep said.
I use 8-38 strings to minimize stress on my left hand. I want to minimize the risk of tendonitis, which is basically a guitarist's death sentence. Yes, the tone is thinner than thicker strings, but on a modelling amp on distortion modes, or any amp with distortion set up, you can't hear it anyway.
I love the Honeyburst finish...it seems to be the most popular color along with the cherryburst.
In summary, I had considered a Gibson, but for 1/4 the price, you get a great value for money, and the money saved pays for am amp and whole lot more.
Final suggestions for beginners: Get a micro tuner so it's hidden behind the neck. Get a quality cable with on-off switch built in, so you don't have horrible popping sounds when plugging or unplugging. Get a guitar stand with the little automatic arms on top to keep the guitar from falling out. And get a modelling amp so that you get everything all in one instead of buying 10 different pedals.
