Quest and Discovery was a result of a request by Dr. Fraser Linklater in his quest to find great Canadian music for school wind ensembles (check out the North Winds CDs from U of M). Quest and Discovery is programmatic in that the first section, in the minor key, appears to be seeking something. The second section marked by the shift to major gives the impression of a rest in the search, perhaps a hint that the discovery has been sighted, but again the quest continues until finally, it becomes obvious that the discovery has been made.
